Dont need to, nintendo games are just better without all that trash because they focus on gameplay and fun. Thus why crunch when you could cut down dev teams and make good games without killing your codemonkeys
it's almost as if a game doesn't need all that shit to be a good fucking game
how do we know they dont crunch ?
OPetty BTFO! FPBP!
>Cutting the typical AAA bloat
And this is a bad thing how?
Everyday is a crunch day for the Japanese.
>Slave labour is good because I need to consoom
Is this what you are saying, piece of shit?
Motion capture, "grade-A" voice acting, and blockbuster cutscenes don't make a game good. Usually they make it shitty.
Story telling is often better when it isn't delivered through 8 hours of cutscenes because the dudes in charge of the game wished they were making movies.
I can't, he's right
Crunch is a shit practice and it's the consequence of bloated garbage movie games saturating the market
Its fitting that dad-core mediocre games like Uncharted/Last of Us are literally going to kill the industry, seeing how they killed sonys actual FUN game serieses
It's almost like those things aren't necessary to make a good video game.
>Games are good without grade a voice acting, story telling and blockbuster cutscenes.
>Still thinking you need to do those things
Western devs are a bunch of fucking morons.
i just wanna play games.
>implying nintendo doesnt crunch
they "don't need crunch" (they still have crunch, but japs dont tend to whine on twitter about work), because they don't have to work under a publisher that only understands business but not games and the process behind making them.
Good design and gameplay nowhere insight.
T. Rodger Ebert
I mean, Zelda storytelling is pretty good, not sure how storytelling and voice acting takes crunch either
>motion capture as a positive
>motion capture
>voice acting
>story
>cutscenes
VIDEO GAMES
>we added all these things that have nothing to do with game play and it causes us to have to do a lot more work to make a video game
AAA devs wouldn't have to crunch either if the publishers were willing to delay a game.
>non-sequetir out of left field
fucking what?
crunch used to be called "making a game".
guys at Rare routinely spent 10-15 hour days at work, weekends included, in the 90s.
the difference was, the guys and women there were just cool blokes who could work hard and also liked being there. today you're some redundant faggot in a 200 people, faceless company, where you do slave work or work on soulless small parts like making grass or small assets without any context, have a shitty leader and all the other bs that automatically comes around in well staffed office work environments.
based
>motion capture
Every AA dev out there can do motion capture nowadays. Kojima and the like did it in the mid 2000s
>grade-A voice acting
Don't need a bazillion bucks for it. SOMA has great voice acting. Ever since GTA IV R* has used no name VAs and they've all been great, Roger Clark won best performance and he used to voice Natural Geographic documentaries
>story telling
Souls does it good via a bunch of item descriptions and placements
>blockbuster cutscenes
lmfao fuck off
FPBP
here you go
So you're admitting that you're wasting time, money, and effort to make an inferior product?
even goldeneye already had motion capture, that game was developed in 1996/1997
So you're telling me that if companies focus purely on gameplay, they don't have to worry about crunch?
Explain Metroid: Other M then.
>start on art assets before they even think about gameplay
A mistake that even its producer apologized for.
Focused on the dumb shit and not gameplay and fun, which is why it sucked.
Does anyone have that post of AAAfags saying 2019 sucked because it didn't have enough movie "games?"
This. You never hear about crunch in Japan because the society is permanently in crunch.
what is the point he is trying to make?
gameplay first.
Americans actually work harder and longer hours than Japs. If I remember correctly they are even slightly below the world average.
>a japanese workplace doesnt have crunch time
A westerners idea of crunch time is probably just a normal day for japanese devs, I would hate to work over there.
That has to have been poking fun at AAA games. Nobody is that unaware.
I was just reading an article earlier on Kotaku droning on about crunch and talking about Naughty Dog's perfectionism, like how if you shot a sack seed would spill out of it, and shining a light in somebody's face would make them squint. Why does anyone give a fuck about that kind of shit - it doesn't make the game any better, wasting hours on fucking horse balls.
Monolith Soft being a fairly new development studio has pretty much completely moved away from traditional Japanese overworking practices. Nintendo buying them also allowed them more money to make more lax schedules.
It's mostly the artist and programmers being crunched, not the voice actors and screen writers.
And it's always the result of poor management and unrealistic deadlines
This one?
>japanese developers
>focus on making fun games, treat their workers with respect
>western devs
>focus on making good movies, treat workers like shit
Why is this?
if I wanted to watch good movies I'd watch cinema from the 80s and older not play playstation exclusives
>treat their workers with respect
Lmao stupid weebtard
Why wouldn't you? No point in paying a bunch of people to just sit around and do fuck all. If anything it might help reduce crunch.
They did brag about delaying AC New Horizons to not do crunch. Although I believe it was to fill out the first half of 2020.
But, Miyamoto itself says it's company philosophy to take their time since Yamauchi years. It was his idea of "making something interesting rather than something that will sell".

>Sekiro, DMCV and RE BAD
>shitty pozzed ""RPG"" GOOD
Retarded meme man
What is he trying to say? Who's side is he on?
Is he saying Nintendo games are too simple or is he saying everyone else is wasting their time?
I hate people who argue like this.
To a certain degree that stuff adds some realism which can be kinda neat. The big brain stuff is adding details like that which can affect gameplay in some way, which AAA devs never seem to do.
Twitter zoomer has shit taste.
More news at 11.
I agree with grandayy
Yeah but user, user, what other game has horse balls that realistically contract in the cold? Hm?
Outer Wilds, not Outer Worlds
>In all, ASPI’s research has identified 83 foreign and Chinese companies directly or indirectly benefiting from the use of Uyghur workers outside Xinjiang through potentially abusive labour transfer programs as recently as 2019: Abercrombie & Fitch, Acer, Adidas, Alstom, Amazon, Apple, ASUS, BAIC Motor, BMW, Bombardier, Bosch, BYD, Calvin Klein, Candy, Carter’s, Cerruti 1881, Changan Automobile, Cisco, CRRC, Dell, Electrolux, Fila, Founder Group, GAC Group (automobiles), Gap, Geely Auto, General Motors, Google, Goertek, H&M, Haier, Hart Schaffner Marx, Hisense, Hitachi, HP, HTC, Huawei, iFlyTek, Jack & Jones, Jaguar, Japan Display Inc., L.L.Bean, Lacoste, Land Rover, Lenovo, LG, Li-Ning, Mayor, Meizu, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Microsoft, Mitsubishi, Mitsumi, Nike, Nintendo, Nokia, The North Face, Oculus, Oppo, Panasonic, Polo Ralph Lauren, Puma, Roewe, SAIC Motor, Samsung, SGMW, Sharp, Siemens, Skechers, Sony, TDK, Tommy Hilfiger, Toshiba, Tsinghua Tongfang, Uniqlo, Victoria’s Secret, Vivo, Volkswagen, Xiaomi, Zara, Zegna, ZTE.
At least nintendo doesn't do crunch!
>don't compare nintendo to retards
in fact I do not, nintendo is base'
>China
Well fuck me. Rest of the post still stands though.
>sony
>microsoft
>oculus
>nintendo
user, using china slaves is the industry standard. Get with the times, grandpa
>Motion capture
Not something that's done during crunch. If you're working on mocap during crunch, you're fucked.
>voice acting
Also not something done during crunch. Again, if this isn't done around the middle of the process, this project is fucked.
>Story telling
A general concept, most of which is finalized in preproduction. If you don't have your story and script finalized by the time production starts, this project is, again, fucked.
>cutscenes
Most of these should be done well before crunch, with fine-tuning at best during crunch.
Based.
His argument refutes itself, just interpret the last line as, "Don't compare Nintendo to them" as Nintendo doing it better instead of somehow being lower and you'll see. He's this close to realizing that you don't need any of those things to make a good game, he even says Nintendo is massively successful but he still misses the point.
I also get my Japan knowledge from anime
>Game companies are crunching their employees to make games more like movies
Nintendo is fucking based
Nintendo games are better than anything Rockstar, Naughty Dog, or CDPR have ever put out. Also, how in the actual fuck would voice acting and story-telling have anything to do with crunch? Do people really think the ones pulling 80 hour work weeks are busting their ass thinking of fun stories or reading from a piece of paper?
Whats the last mainline nintendo game to score below an 80 an metacritic?
I find amusing how nearly everyone on industry have holier than thou attitude against Nintendo but very few devs can actually input something polished like their works.
