Is final fantasy 14 worth trying in 2020 or is it dog shit?

Honestly you people laugh at toilet paper hoarders, but you really dont have enough toilet paper yourselves. The average person uses 1 roll per day. If you have a family of 4, that's 28 rolls a week. Over 100 a month. TP rolls will be worth their weight in gold in a few months, because everyone needs it.
FFXIV is great if you're looking for a long, linear, mostly single-player story-based game. I'd recommend it, despite its low points like the 2.X MSQ quests, Shadowbringers as a whole is legitimately a wonderful Final Fantasy game.
It's not great if you're expecting to be constantly grouping up with people, but the times you do for dungeons and trials are generally fun with a welcoming playerbase.
Also not good if you expect the gear treadmill at the end-game to be fun. Don't bother, just unsub at that point.
who tf uses 1 roll per day
I use a roll a month tops motherfucker
...
this is bait

Yas Forums hates on it like they do anything, but I think it's fucking great. One of the best MMO's I've played, in fact. And Shadowbringers, while not nearly as amazing as some reviewers would have you believe as a whole, does expand on such critically important parts of the story, and comes with the best villain so far, and has some fucking amazing kino moments for your protagonist and their friends there too.
It's more personal, than any expansion in pretty much any MMO save perhaps SWTOR so far, and brought many tears to my eyes. That said, it's no WoW. If you're looking for endless raids or mythic+ progression, there's not much of that here. While there is an endgame, it's far more casual than with WoW or some korean bs MMO's.
>it's more casual
It's actually harder, the problem is that there's much less endgame content than WoW, that's a fact
