Maybe don't skip it completely, but you can safely start with 2. If you like it, you can go back and play Daniil's route in the original, since 2 doesn't have all routes from the original yet.

But user, I just did. Replayed 1 and 2 a couple weeks ago.
No. 2 is way, way better in gameplay, but imo 1 has much better atmosphere, music, art design, and story. 1 has a much more theatrical and surreal approach that I strongly prefer.

In a time when remakes are jerked off to high heaven in spite of rarely deserving the praise or fucking up certain aspects of the original game, Pathologic 2 pretty much is one of the best remakes ever made and nobody played it. What the hell.

I don't know why people complain about the gameplay being stressful. Yes, it puts pressure on you, but that means that you nearly start jizzing if you manage to find something like a shmowder (or some resource to upgrade your inventory space) on your own.

When the game first launched maybe, but Mandalore's Pathologic review almost has a million views at this point. And in that video hes over the fucking moon about how much he loves the game. Hbomber also did a video on the original game that has over a million. Its obviously still a niche game but a lot of people are clearly interested in it.

In Pathologic 1, should I be conservative about trading/drinking/bottling water? The trash has a lot of bottles, the alcoholics want my water and I have many to offer them. I know in Patho 2, you could drain water barrels but it took a lot of sucks from the tap to do it. The only economy for these drunks is water, so I am not sure how much to value the water.

In Pathologic 1 it's not as bad and you can probably get away with trading water from time to time. In Pathologic 2 trading water is a trap to fuck with veterans of 1, you should hoard all water and never spend it unless absolutely necessary.

It's really interesting to go back and play Patho 1 as Bachelor after having finished Patho 2. Very different experiences.

P1 was never fun to play for me, it was outdated and designed with tedium in mind when it comes to gameplay. I mean, the gameplay loop could be enjoyable and it was a survival game at its heart, but not giving the player a sprint or more auxillary mechanics fucked the game up.
This is why P2 is incredible, it plays amazingly well and fixes the above problems. Introduces randomness through plague checks on each day, gives you more option to positively/negatively influence reputation, completely reworks healing mechanics, completely reworks surgery, intertwines systems like lockpicking or surgery with allowing the player to spend lockpicks/scalpels as weapons, introduces crafting that makes sense, does the whole tincture system with brewing herbs or using organs, gives you optional methods of acquiring cash like trading organs, introduces the doctor's fund system, shakes things up with money being replaced with meal tickets, children's cashes are entirely new as far as I remember, and much more.
It's a fucking really well thought out video g a m e, not a walking sim. And it sold like shit.

Yeah, but lack of running and the necessity to await the letters is meh. P1 legit gave me headaches, no other game managed to do it. I think people should give it a fair shot and not skip it, but I don't think it's well designed when it comes to the gameplay fundamentals.
