I did, Halo CE is still one of the greatest games of all time let alone one of the greatest FPS. I played multiple call of duties, bioshocks, battlefields, doom series. none of them made me look down on Halo CE. its just a master piece of a game and wasn't even my first FPS.

i rarely if ever get insta killed even on legendary with the jackel snipers from Halo 2 being able to one-shot you from the other side of the map. you use the environment to your advantage and stay as tactical as possible. picking off enemies if you have to. effectively using whatever marine squads they give you as a distraction to take down more enemies.

i'm not sure what you think makes a challenging or none dull shooter. doom was not at all difficult despite its age.

Elites are not lower than Canonically fodder and they're the only ones you really have to strategize against. some of them can be as tough as Chief himself and canonically average around 7 foot tall each. can run faster than the average human and kick/punch harder as well. it would make sense not to be able to mow through them. you might as well be askig why you can't just run up to a tank and destroy it without it potentially one-shotting you.

The music is changed though generally in a way that is meant to keep the spirit of the original compositions. It's hit or miss imho. The sound effects are really nice though, surprisingly. The remastered sniper rifle firing sound is satisfying as hell.

Jackels aren't difficult to kill neither are grunts. if you're seriously wondering why snipers are difficult to kill i'm not sure why you're playing FPS. its clearly not your genre forte.

It's almost like rushing in with no plan is a stupid idea, and the game punishes you for it. And all the "instakill shit" is seeable due to good windup animations and predictable enemy behavior. That's what makes Halo fun. It's consistent, and it challenges you by making you think about encounters instead of blindly shooting everything in sight. That's what separates Halo from run-of-the-mill shooters with forgettable campaigns.

Several weapons are capable of headshots, the plasma pistol has an EMP charge, the Plasma Rifle slows down enemy movement, the PP and PR have batteries that can overheat, the Needler causes an explosion when enough needles pierce a target, plasma grenades stick to infantry and vehicles, etc. The weapons in Halo are as deep as any other FPS' gallery of guns, if not moreso.

running and melee does more damage than a regular melee

if you crouch just before landing, you can avoid death from fall damage

instead of controlling power ups, you can bring powers ups to you by throwing or bouncing a grenade at the right angle at base of the overshield or camo/sniper etc.
CE has kino physics. This is how high level gameplay works.

You can even manipulate spawns with proper positioning, it gets really methodical.

I tend to avoid bad video games played by people who think Jackals can do anything relevant in Halo.

There's never one right way to approach a battle in Halo. Literally play any level in CE, 3, ODST, or Reach (2 can be guilty of narrow level design on Legendary). The most basic formation you come across are the grunts with one elite. Do you take out the elite to scare the grunts into fleeing, or do you take out the grunts first so they don't chip away at your shields with plasma shots as you battle the elite? There are plenty more examples of this that you can see by just watching people play the game. There are wrong ways to approach a battle, but that's how it should be. That's what keeps the game from being mindless. However, there are still a multitude of strategies to get you by in these games.
