Quest 64 was absolute fucking trash, though.

it's just one example. post some good nintendo 64 games that you think are better than quest

>N64

lol

what was wrong with it? I liked it as a kid.

>bumping your own thread this much
Maybe it's not a good idea for a thread if it needs so much life support.

Anyways, FF8 and Pokemon Stadium 2

For fucking real, the old quintuple self bump just reeks of a babby person starved of attention.

>ps1
>cinematic experiences
Pick both.

Why didnt the n64 have any good RPGs? I'd understand if it were just graphical limitations, but then why didnt developers use sprites instead? The only other rpg I can think of on the n64 was ogre battle.

buttmad bing-binger

it's better to bump threads about games than have the board filled with off topic bait threads.

This is hyper kino. Wish there was more use to the workshops and pets and forging equipment. Game is already too easy to actually bother with that.

My favorite.

>PS1
Star Ocean 2
Valkyrie Profile
>N64
Bomberman 64
Bomberman 64: The Second Attack
Starfox 64
Blast Corps
Buck Bumble
Perfect Dark
Space Station Silicon Valley
Wave Race 64
Mario Party 2 and 3

Nope

N64 port might work.

Because FMVs are helpful for telling stories, and they weren't doable on the N64.

The ISO of FF7 that I have is 1.46 GB. It would take 23 cartridges to fit the entire game on N64.

Gran Turismo 2.

Super Star Ocean original is far better.

It has some obvious issues, but I still somewhat enjoyed it. First finished it last year.

RE2 two disc on one magic cartridge.

Metal Gear Solid, Chrono Cross and Breath of Fire with two disc might’ve be possible on the N64.

Don't forget Paper Mario, which came out at the tail end of the system's life.

Anyway, it's probably because RPGs are expected to be very long, so it would be difficult to fit that amount of content on even 64MB cart, especially with the 3D graphics and prerendered cutscenes that everyone was into. I cannot think of any N64 game as long as your standard PSX RPG, besides maybe DK64?

bullshit, it was amazing

Nice opinion, who told you to think it?

>PS1
Blasto
>N64
Mischief Makers

t. brainlet who read it was trash on some forums or something and never played it

I enjoyed Star Ocean 1, but there's a real issue with the lack of complexity in the gameplay, and lack of strong enemies to fight. Once you get that dragon summoning ability with Ratix, you can just spam that a few times to kill anything in the game.
In Star Ocean 2, you can come up with tons of crazy character and equipment combinations and continuously fight strong enemies.
Plus, Star Ocean 1 doesn't have Bowman...

They hated him for speaking the truth.

Quest 64 has one of the best combat systems of any RPG, prove me wrong.
>Being able to move within your turn radius adds positioning to the battle formula and this aspect synchronizes with the spell list pretty well
>Being able to dodge keeps you engaged while the enemy attacks, but isn't broken to the point where you feel no danger
>All your stats scale based on what you interact with, and leveling + finding gems in the overworld is a nice way to handle it
>Gem system is essentially a difficulty setting, with water+earth being baby mode and fire+wind being hard mode
>"Useful so never use" isn't prevalent throughout the item system
If Q64 was actually finished and had polish on it, it would probably be considered one of the greats.

MGS as a game might've been possible on N64 if they converted most of the codecs to text. N64 audio was bad as it is, I can just imagine everything being compressed to fit a cart. I had no idea what the fuck Juno was saying at the end of Mega Man 64.

RE2 never needed to be a two disc game. The developers admitted this, and by the time they tried to fix it, it was too late.

Honestly Pokémon Snap still holds up today if you beat it in one sitting like an arcade game. Won’t take longer than an hour and a half. Nice little game to revisit.

Yeah, despite some crazy in-depth systems the core gameplay is the game's biggest weakness.
The art, music, and non-linear story make up for it though.

>PS1
Basically every game Squaresoft published for the console except shit like Ergheiz. EA localizing a bunch of Squaresoft games like Vagrant Story and Front Mission 3 was the best thing that company has ever done

Tombi!

I've been out of the loop for a while, how is N64 emulation these days? I feel like playing some Mario 64 and Pokemon Puzzle League

N64:

Battle Tankx: Global Assault

Absolutely patrician choices.

it unironically has some of the coolest environments in any RPG, most people are just plebs and didnt play it more than 30 minutes though

Aside from the obvious picks like RE, or MGS and the like,

PS1:
Legend of Mana - favorite game of all time, Yoko Shinomura sound track, the absolute definition of SOUL, wide variety of combat options, crafting so complex no mortal has yet to figure it out 100%, open ended storyline with completely different routes to get to the ending to the point where you can play the game for 100 hours and not even see one of the potential branches, just fucking amazing on every level.
Breath of Fire 4 - Great aesthetic. Unique and different from the other games in a way that isn't offputting like Dragon Quarter. Areas ripped from the dreams of Ullillia.
Azure Dreams - Roguelike with a central town. You level down but your monsters that you train and accompany you don't.
Front Mission 3 - /m/andatory turn based tactical RPG with two routes for replayability.
Harvest Moon Back To Nature - Best Harvest Moon game with worst load times.
Megaman Legends 2 - /m/andatory, fun third person shooter, inadvertently teaches you about real world history

N64:
Bomber Man Hero - Bitching DnB soundtrack, good platforming, unique worlds, somewhat oppressive atmosphere at times.
Custom Robo V2 - /m/andatory robot customization game. Really fun even if you can't read Japanese.
Harvest Moon 64 - Interchangable with Back to Nature but with better loading times and has better festivals with hand drawn art depicting them.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Actually really bad but I think everyone should play it once to see how bad it is.

An opinion without any explanation whatsoever is exactly like white bread without anything to go with it. NOTHING INTERESTING.

Man Front Mission 3 was so good down to every single detail. Played the game for the first time 2 years ago and going on the network for the first time was a trip

Hybrid Heaven is kind of an RPG.

Oh,didn't see this one first, mea culpa.
People read the thread from the start, man, that's why.

>why didnt developers use sprites instead?
It was a different time. Sprites were seen as old and archaic back then. Even if they look aesthetically better to our eyes today, back then if you used sprites in your game you got shat on by reviewers and the general public as if you were trying to release a previous gen game in the modern day for full price, whereas even the shittiest low poly 15 fps bullshit was seen as revolutionary and better.

Azure Dreams is great. I didn't really say much about it but its just a really quality game on every level. Good story, great aesthetics, the town was ahead of its time. Its a Japanese roguelike that isn't Shiren and feels like a real JRPG. The GBC version is pretty based too.

You can play on No Future mode and the game is actually pretty difficult. Just don't abuse O attack stun.

The core gameplay is great, what are you talking about? You have so many weapons, movement options, abilities, companions, ect. The game is easy on its base difficulty but I don't think that holds the game back at all because you have so many options to play around with. Do you need to? No. But its fun to do.

SILENT BOMBER AND MISCHIEF MAKERS

>Tfw my brother saved over my vagrant story file when I went off to college
College is such a meme

It's also kindo of shit alledgedly, I never actually played it

I mean, it still copied the Shiren engine 1:1 though.

The gameplay and story are great, the graphics and level design not so much. It feels pretty unfinished in some areas.
