Wait, wait, wait, hold the fuck up. Is WASD meant to leave your index finger free? Does anyone do this? I always let my pinky drag behind, to handle shift, control, and all that. Does anyone actually do this?

No, that's just for standard typing. It's normal to shift your hand over one key for WASD

That's what everyone does.

you're supposed to use ESDF

No, of course not.

I pity the children with tiny hands who cannot enjoy the superior AEDG grip.

i got this

I only use my index and middle fingers for typing most characters, left thumb for space, and left pinkie and ring for modifers.

Does anyone actually strictly use OP's typing pic?

What about pic related?

First of all, that image is horseshit even for regular typing lmao
secondly, nope, it's not

Alien spot ed

It's what I learned, at this point it's autopilot. I don't pay enough attention to it anymore but it's pretty much that maybe give or take a key

>that image is horseshit even for regular typing
Please elaborate.

Wasd is just an idiotic layout. Only esdf should be used by thinking people.

I just turned 23 and I still can't touch-type.

Gee, Billy, your mom lets you have three thumbs?

retarded nigger

Just like most other things in life the "proper form" for typing depends on what you're typing and your specific comfortable ranges.
Obviously you should still take some time to learn things properly, that's the REAL purpose of the layout, but once again, just like a lot of stuff in real life once you've learned strict "proper form" well enough you're generally expected to develop a more personal and convenient style.

how the fuck do I learn?

I'm closing on thirty, and just started yesterday. That's what spawned this thread. I'm typing this shit at like 12 wpm. It's kind of fun, in a way. I know where everything is no problem, but goddamn, am I clumsy. I feel like fucking Bambi on ice, here.

I see. I'll deal with that when I get there. I'll keep it in mind.

No, this is not a diagram for gayming. This is the optimal hand position for typing. Its the reason the f key and j key often have little divets on keyboards for easy and optimal hand placement/alignment for typing with all of your fingers.

I have to look at the keys everytime I lift my hand to touch the numpad and number keys above 6. Shit sucks.

i have 120-150 wpm and im a zoomer

Is it worth going for some meme layout like dvorak, that isn't built expressly to be slow and cumbersome, since I'll be starting from the ground up regardless?

Thats for writing dumbass

irreparably retarded

No.
QWERTY wasn't build to be slow and cumbersome. It was build to have mechanical levers apart from each other and be fast regardless. Far more important than the aditional 5 WPM meme formats can give you is the ability to touch type on 99.9% of all keyboards you will ever encounter.

Yeah, that's hyperbole. Not literally designed to be shit for the sake of it, but working under some serious restrictions. Well, if it doesn't matter, fuck it. Thanks for the advice.

I can type ~56 words per minute not because I learned the proper technique but because I've spent so much time typing that I've become very comfortable with the keyboard.

OP you retard that's for normal typing
Why do you think each hand has ASDF and JKL: on them?

My natural resting postion is WASD with my left hand and JKL: with my right hand even for normal typing

>56 words per minute
user...
Literally just go cold turkey and stop looking at the keyboard
That's how I did it

Ok lads, time to chime in.
Who learned to type quickly from playing runescape?

Attached: 1564014858737.jpg (500x762, 50.32K)

based

Use RDFG

Yes. I remember in like 5th grade we went to the computer lab to type something and I put the paper over my screen to copy it out and the other kids were amazed at my typing speed. It also improved my aim in FPS games due to all the mouse movement.

I seriously struggle to find even one game that would objectively benefit from ESDF. Maybe Arma 3 or some tank sim, and that's a big maybe whether you'd need so many buttons being so close, while also making it harder to push easy-to-reach big buttons, like shift, ctrl and tab

>while also making it harder to push easy-to-reach big buttons, like shift, ctrl and tab
Imagine being a fingerlet

My shitty college laptop (where I type the most) has a smaller keyboard than my desktop and my hands are big so my left hand does most of my typing on that. Feels really weird switching between the two.

Attached: image.jpg (245x229, 49.26K)

I'm not a finger let though, it's just objectively harder to reach them from such an angle. Yes I guess you can remap them to other buttons (although not always, and fucking around with AHK scripts exclusive to specific games is a chore), but then what's the point of switching to begin with, you're just exchanging big buttons for small buttons

I don't find it any harder to hit shift with ESDF compared to WASD

Good for you, man! Can you explain to me what games you're using ESDF with and how do you remap the keys?

I'm tempted to use ESDF for a game that requires 1 through 0 for items but also has four weapon slots that can only be cycled through
as of now I have the weapons bound to Q, CTRL, ~ and space but its clunky as fuck

>not using

The 'b' key belonging to the left hand always fucks me over when I type on an ergonomic keyboard.

I'm a leftie but always stuck with WASD for games.
I should probably try an alternative layout sometime

I just fucked around with my keyboard and WERD is the only thing that doesnt spark my carpal tunnel
I don't know if I'm autistic enough to actually use this though

I learned it when I was like 15 or so. Can't even think of any other way to type now. Doesn't feel like I'm particularly fast but when my classmates watch me type they're amazed for some reason.

Attached: type.webm (306x206, 223.9K)

Learned from Maplestory. Though I typed like a retard to get messages out as fast as possible, have to wonder how people put up with my shit for two years.
>when u typ lik this its nt very legibl 2 any1 but urslf n i only stoped when i came hre

God, I don't even want to imagine trying to aim with my left. Mad respect for you devil worshiping cunts.

>WERD
holy shit, user

Attached: 1554236348451.gif (528x660, 461.22K)

when I got my first data entry job my coworkers always thought I was some sort of hackerman
I guess it didnt help that I bottom out every key when I type so it was loud as fuck even on membranes

Attached: werd.jpg (1500x1489, 186.16K)

Learned what?

touch typing

Wait. People still type while looking at kb? I thought only boomers do this shit. The only time I do it is on my smartphone, cause the buttons are too small for me. And no, I don't have fat fingers, just type fast enough.

>WERD
Just switch S and W around. Less of a hassle, and ergonomically superior with the mod keys so much more accessible.

I have no idea what you guys do, I use my left hand for the mouse.
