YOU JEST SO LIGHTLY IN A TIME OF CRISIS
DMC THREAD
I can barely remember anything that happens in DMC4's plot, and my play time is in the hundreds of hours. I only remember that Nero spergs out over Kyrie and Dante does a Shakespearean performance with the bug man.
Outside of the Dante scenes, DMC4's cutscenes are mostly super boring. Whereas DMC3 is full of great scenes. DMC5 is somewhere in the middle.
It did have a lot of KINO cutscenes though.

5SE confirmed for next-gen consoles. So about a year or two.
>DMC4's cutscenes are mostly super boring
You're kidding right?
>The opening with Nero fighting demons while Kyrie sings
>The whole fight between Dante and Nero
>The mission 2 scene where Nero beats up scarecrows while skating on them
>Berial intro and banter
>Nero getting his DT
>Echidna's intro
>Alto Angelo introduction
>Faust introduction
>Savior's activation and opening of the demon gate
>Gilgamesh scene
>Blitz intro
>Lucifer scene
>Agnus intro and conclusion
>Dante fighting Angelos and Savior
>Pandora scene
>Nero finishing Sanctus
>Nero crushing Savior's Face
DMC4 has a lot of flaws but cutscenes aren't one of them. The scenes are bursting with style and have excellent cinematography.
Though the story itself is admittedly poorly paced and kinda boring at times. The fact that 4 will forever remain an unfinished mess is almost painful.
Finished DMC4 would've probably been better than DMCV. Fuck Capcom,
This. Capcom is really the one to blame in the end. They forced the team to work right away on the sequel after 3, and 3 was a rather exhausting experience for devs which left them fatigued ideas wise. They also gave them a ps2 budged for a ps3 game and then they had to switch platforms mid development while working on a new gen they didn't have as much experience with. Not to mention that ps3 a nightmare to program for.
And even after the game became the most sold entry in the franchise, capcom still wasn't satisfied and allowed the rotten reboot to take place.
You know... 4 turned out great all things considered.
Maybe not great great, but it definitely was a better game than it could've been reasonably expected in the circumstances.
Still >tfw no Nero devil arms
At least we got to meme Tameem or whatever his name was
The worst part is that DMC4 got THREE(3) panchinkos all with new cutscenes and dialogue, with the last one having high budget CG.
Agreed. The pachinko CG cutscenes look so fucking good. It's a pity that Capcom never made a DMC movie like they did with the Resident Evils.

>manage to make almost a completely function character from a boss.
>no one bothered to fix 4SE Virgil which would've been a considerably easier task since it would only be a few tweaks.
Still an impressive feat either way.
I CAN SEE YOUR FEAR
IT SURROUNDS YOU
How does 4SE Vergil need to be fixed?
Honestly if I went into detail, it'd be too much to list. But for one, his damage output is just too strong, even on DMD he just rips everything to shreds. It's fun at first, but gets old fast.
His teleports got completely butchered compared to 3 and he has to rely on gimmicky summoned sword teleporting that in some cases can miss the enemy. And once an enemy is hit with a s.sword, you can't do Trick Up anymore.
Not to mentioned how some teleports are tied to DT now and the trick down command sucks(lockon+back+jump) as it can interfere with enemy step. Also air trick can be infinitely spammed and has infinite range as well, along with actually slowing down enemies for a moment. It's extremely unbalanced and only made that way to allow less skilled players to do air combos.
What they could've done is, instead of only taking the s.sword teleporting from DmC, take better inspiration from the way that game did teleports. Which is allowing to do short teleports by holding a direction then pressing the teleport/style button. Trick down would be just like in 3 (lockon+back+style), same with trick up (lockon+back+style). Teleporting to an enemy would be as simple as holding lockon and pressing style button without holding a direction. And they could've either kept 3's trick in place pr had their new
vertical Trick up when pressing the style button without holding lockon or directions. It would've been really simple and they messed it up.
They nerfed his stinger's travel distance for no reason and the regular air stinger is even worse. Yamato aerial rave is inferior to 3Vergil and 4Dante and only done that way to once again allow for easy air combos.
Judgement cut end is too strong with how little resources it uses. Should've either making use up all DT or all concentration.
There's a lot I could say about it, along with other things, but overall the concentration meter was haphazardly implemented and obviously needed more testing, the whole character did.
These are some great points that you've listed. Fingers crossed that 5SE's Vergil is the best playable iteration of V-man.
BRING THE FABLE FROM THY TOMB
>And once an enemy is hit with a s.sword, you can't do Trick Up anymore.
That's the only thing I legitimately hate about 4Vergil. Why the fuck couldn't lock + forward be the sword teleport, and neutral be trick up? I can't count how many times I tried to dodge an attack, only to zip right into it with my face.
SPORADIC DOOM AS KNIGHTS LOOM
YOU CRY SO JESTLY IN A TIME OF LIGHTNESS?
Honestly, for me, the reason why I feel Vergil is butchered in 4 is even simpler: his Judgment Cut sound and animation is vastly inferior to 3's.
Also, for some reason, his stinger move was changed so that he has this long recovery animation where he turns around and sheaths his sword. He just doesn't feel as comfy to play as 3 Vergil.
Also, his head looks like a peanut in 4SE, but in 3, because his hair is nice and spikey, there's better balance and his head doesn't look tiny.
>He just doesn't feel as comfy to play as 3 Vergil
Yeah that sums it up for me as well. 3 Vergil's gameplay just has a nice rhythm to it. His grunts are better too imo.
>spoiler
They messed up his model in 4, you can tell it was cheaply made by just editing Nero's head. One of the reasons his head also looks tiny is because he's so wide and buff in 4se, it's kinda weird. He was neatly lean and slick in 3 while still being musclebound. Not to mention his hair looks like a wig in 4 bonus the glitched his hair texture so it becomes invisible when viewed from the back.
Why does the shading in DMC2 look so cool?
It seems a new lighting shader was implemented for the HD collection. PS2 version doesn't look like that even when upscaled. Neat addition either way.
>trying to S-Rank HAH
>Finally clear mission 8 taking no damage at all, should easily make it with the 2x style points multiplier
>taking a mission-ending hit from Urizen’s second phase doesn’t kill you or deal any damage, but it still counts as “damage”
>you can only get the No Damage multiplier if you beat him early and get the secret ending
>1.2x No Continue multiplier
>A rank
Fuck you Itsuno.
>Literally who doing X, X and X
The problem is it's impossible to care about anything happening in that game's story unless you're in the minority of people who actually cares about Nero in that game, it doesn't help that Dante's character was thrown out the window for the sole purpose of acting as a foil/mentor figure to him. It's like watching Gurren Lagann after Kamina dies.
DMC5 is the opposite of Disney Wars where instead of retconning everything out of existence it pays homage to every minor piece of DMC lore you can think of including the anime and the novels, it's pure fanservice and a celebration of the entire franchise. Regardless of how good the actual story is it's a DMC game made for every DMC fan.
your waifu gets abducted and you think it's dante but it wasn't, it was your waifu's church, they worshipped an evil demon
Either way the cutscenes themselves were well directed and executed, that was my point there. But yeah I agree that the problem stems mainly from Nero and his story not being very interesting, or rather being presented in an unengaging manner.
Nero himself is a problem with the way he was handled. The writer originally had a different, more original concept for the him, but was instead told to just write another Dante-like character.
>playing the gimmick modes, ever
that's not how you have fun user
>but was instead told to just write another Dante-like character.
Sometimes I wonder if they were trying to pull a Raiden and trick us into thinking he was Dante all along, I just find it hard to see that face and believe this was ever supposed to be Dante... youtube.com
You have to S rank that to get the Platinum. I'm not looking forward to it, myself.
Maybe cuz of the different engine?
It’s actually tons of fun, just annoying that I did all that work and the end result wasn’t what I expected.
Playing HAH has made me a better DMC5 player.
I beat him by equipping 8 Gerbera’s right before the boss battle. Just use Gerbera’s air breakage with the colliding lasers enough times while up close to the crystal and you should pull through.
Lesser known fact, but a file found in DMC4 heavily implies that at one point the game was planned to have a training mode similar to the void in 5.
I honestly find the overall narrative in DMC5 to be excellent. Probably the best in the series. It has enough KINO moments and like you said respectfully pays homage to the franchise as a whole.
That model looks really rough yeah. I think it kinda shows how much devs were struggling with conceptualizing 4 in the beginning.
They are fun tho.
You mean round 2 Urizen?
I don’t expect to beat him in M8 (fuck the creepy tentacles), I’m just frustrated that I didn’t get the 2.0x buff I expected. Now I have to re-run the mission farming style points and doing optional fights instead of playing for speed/pure survival so I can make it to him with 4600 and get my S-Rank off of just a 1.2x
Normally when I’ve been S-Ranking HAH missions, I’ve been making a choice: do I farm style points to get the S-Rank for real? Or do I go for a no-hitter and let the 2.4x multiplier just hand me the S for free?
I decided to go the no-hitter route since the M8 encounters start with a Fury and just go downhill from there in terms of “enemies it’s fun and easy to style on”, it was just annoying to not have it work out as I predicted.
I meant Urizen 1. The 1.2x multiplier should be enough to carry you through as long as you maintained good style ranks generally. Getting a no-hit on HaH on this mission is a feat only for the Gods of DMC because Urizen 2’s tentacles WILL fuck you up.
>DMC6 comes out with new difficulty modes
>usual Dante Must Die
>after beating that, you unlock Sparda Must Perish
>it's balanced like DMC1's DMD
It'd be neat.
Urizen 1 is easy, I just play him like a bullet hell boss. Back of the arena, DT charge shots, gerbera slap his fireballs back into him.
The problem is, building up 4600 style points in the run up to Urizen takes conscious effort because you have 3 mandatory encounters:
>2 antenora / 1 fury
>2 baphomet / 1 Proto
>3 baphomet / 1 Nobody
And none of those is particularly good for building and maintaining S+ rank for the vast majority of your damage output.
If I had known going in, I would have done it like I did when I S-ranked 8 on DMD; dance my way to the start of the first fight, dance my way to the start of the optional collapsing fight, take the optional fight with Petal ray for easy S, take the second optional fight with petal ray for easy S, and full-combo all the Baphomets to death in both mandatory encounters they show up.
But that means taking 2 optional fights on, both with Behemoths IIRC (certainly 1 does) AND not crowd-managing Baphos which risks you getting hit from offscreen by their ice attacks since you let one chant while focused entirely on the other.
I tried to take the fast, easy approach and make my focus dodging all of Urizen’s attacks, but the game wasn’t having any of my goofy bullshit.
What’s so special about DMC1’s DMD? I only played through it once.
It certainly didn't feel that way with all the cussing and "modernized" dialog, for the lack of a better word. By moving more towards western antics, the game lost some of its charm that its predecessors had. Yes the game was always west inspired, but "inspired" is the key word here. Games still felt like playing through an anime.
It's as if they tried to satisfy everyone with 5, both the old fans and new audience. However their attempts felt superficial at best. For example Dante flatly delivering one of his DMC1 lines as a taunt. It doesn't go beyond them saying "hey remember this old thing?". And hell perhaps that would've been fine if it didn't clash with the other part of the game that was meant to appeal to new audiences, like new OST, art style, character designs and easier gameplay. You know if they actually cared, they would've given us a DMC1 costume at the very least, instead of a Donte color swap.
Seems like most people's standards have been lowered thanks to how abysmal DmC was, hell it was so bad that it made people like DMC4 Nero and that speaks volumes.
I really think the devs and Itsuno ran out of ideas and just went full fan service mode. Now I wouldn't mind if they will really try hard on making new story ideas for the next DMC game, but I think they should end the whole DMC story on DMC5SE (peace restored once and for all, Mundus dead, everyone all happy and shit, and Dante and Vergil becoming the new Demon Kings). Of course they would have to think of a way to make Mundus an overpowered villain again.
overrated series
What compelled you to enter a DMC thread?
If you really think about the DMC games (at least the ones Itsuno directed) the actual story or plot is fucking retarded nonsense in all of them.
What makes them enjoyable isn’t the story, it’s the characters and dialogue. You could more or less remove and rewrite every single significant plot beat in 3, 4, and 5 and the story’s appeal would be largely the same because what matters is the interactions between Dante and Vergil, or Lady and Dante, or Nero and Dante, or Nero and Credo, or Nero and Nico, or Dante and Nico, etc etc etc
Fuck a portal tower, fuck a giant statue, fuck a blood fruit tree. None of that was ever the point, it was an Archer-style flimsy pretext to move the characters forward while their actions and interactions form the actual backbone of the entertainment.
>before DMC5 and DmC drama
Moderate but passionate fanbase that keeps to themselves.
>after DmC stuff died down
Most bandwagoners forgot about the series until 4SE which only gave a small rise overall.
>during and after DMC5
Now suddenly everyone and their grandma is a DMC fan. Out of nowhere there are character studies, constant news reports and what have you. With every streamer and e-celeb recording "epic" reactions and screaming their lungs out when the DMC logo appeared, while also not being able to discern Nero from Dante.
I hate how today everyone feels like they need to be "in" on the newest thing and have to let everyone know about it, especially with the prosper of twitter. And corporations are further using this to present themselves as "one of us" to garner approval, along with the marketing stunts like "parties" only so they could in turn earn more money in the long run. Even internet jokes are getting commercialized at this point. It's all so cut and dry and people still buy into it.
That's... actually an interesting way of looking at it.
This. So much this. You have me, the progenitor of countless hype threads pre-announcement. Played and finished every single game in the series. Even 2 and DmC. The finest memelord this side of the internet. The man behind the dubsman post in pic related.
Then along comes some schmuck/twitch thot/e-celeb that thinks they can ride the lighting of MY hype that I duly earned. I'm not gonna stand by idly while this shit happens. Man fuck these niggas.
Schizoid detected
at this fucking rate we're seriously going to get fully playable vergil with new weapons and moves before capcom does it themselves
>while also not being able to discern Nero from Dante.
You just need to look back at the E3 2018 sticky to see how many of these fucking reddittor normalfags are on this board now:
arch.b4k.co
These are the same people who are trying so fucking hard to fit in by acting like every game, including DMC 5, is blatant shit and a blunder. It's atrocious.
Sorry that you can't see the shallowness of the modern vidya marketing. Same thing is happening with the new Doom games.
Take your meds schizo
i feel like doom was already pretty popular but 2016 really got the franchise into pop culture stardom
everyone who is a gamer in the year 2020 has played or heard of doom, but i wouldnt say that is true about DMC.
What is the absolute best boss fight in the DMC series?
vergil 2
Nico and Lady vs my dick
Had fun with 3-4-5
but it's not as great as people make it seem to be
It's a tough call between Vergil 2 and Credo. Vergil's fight has a better atmosphere due to story reasons and the arena itself, though Credo is more engaging.
I had some ideas for DMC6 this morning
Basic story:
>with Dante missing, Nero was put under tremendous pressure to pick up the slack, as the last member of the Sparda bloodline still on Earth
>he tries to get more power by becoming more of a demon, using the methods Agnus used in Fortuna
>he cannot control his powers, and becomes an unwilling villain, sort of like an Akira scenario
Gameplay:
>3 playable characters, each with their own campaign, played in their own difficulty
>once a campaign is completed, you can then replay it with any character you want
>you can SSS rank a mission by S ranking it with all 3 characters
Playable characters:
>Dante for the Son of Sparda campaign
>Vergil for the Must Die campaign
>Vergil's SDT is activated by using DT at max concentration
>when using Vergil's doppelganger, you can switch your control between the two, the other being controlled by AI (or the doppelganger can be controlled by another player via a Souls-like summoning system)
>the Devil Hunter campaign is actually 4 characters in 1: Lady, Trish, Nico, and Patty, all mapped to the D-pad, so you switch ladies like Dante switches styles
>Lady and Trish's fighting styles should be obvious
>Nico uses gadgets inspired by the Devil Breakers, and can set traps
>Patty, being the descendant of a powerful sorcerer, uses heavy-hitting magic, which depletes DT
>the Heaven or Hell and Hell and Hell gimmick difficulties offer a gimmick character: Kyrie, whose attacks are actually being so innocent and kind that demons feel bad for trying to kill her and defend her instead. Her playstyle is basically V's, except you're turning enemies to your side instead of having 3 designated minions.
im not a giant fan of the story idea but the rest i am happy with
>spoiler
even more based
