Rumor: Death Stranding was a commercial flop

>Death Stranding was a flop. It sold well initially, but I've heard it has over 3 million unsold copies of what's been produced,
>but the sales kinda' slowed to a crawl and the game hasn't done as well as anyone involved has been hoping.

>Death Stranding was also originally supposed to be a very different game, a lot darker and more horror-esque, but around a year
>and a half before launch the development got soft rebooted. Sony and Kojima had some disagreements, and some other
>studios at Sony's Worldwide Studios were a bit upset at the money Kojima was getting for the game, along with
>disagreements lead to Death Stranding not ending up as a PS5 game and a sharper window for release even after the soft

A lot of this makes sense, I remember Death Stranding to be very creepy when it got announced but something changed

Also considering that they announced a PC port so soon with another publisher and they're baiting PC ucks with Half Life shit makes me think that the game flopped hard.

its precisely BECAUSE of retarded niggers who try for console exclusive bullshit that it sells shit
>game comes out
>its total garbage carried only by its massive marketing budget
>console cucks buy it
>PC chads see how shit it is from their screeching and youtube videos
>PC chads dont buy it as a result

I was 100% sure it was going to be a full horror game on the first trailers alone. Really disappointed with what they did to it., but I'll always respect Kojima for doing such a weird fucked up game anyway.

>Sony made Kojima change the game to appeal more to all the normalfags who buy cinematic 1st party Sony titles
Imagine my surprise

Yeah, the game looked very weird and creepy

No idea why they changed the original concept

LooooooOOOOOOOOOLLLLHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHELEKWPDN3PFK4OFKSVDKDKSNDLDJD

>No idea why they changed the original concept
there's no proof that they did.

so what your saying is Sony executive meddled and that's why it's a delivery sim and not a horror game

>a game with tons of front loaded hype stopped selling soon after launch
>the only people who bought it were obsessed with Kojima, but Sony expected it to sell to a general audience
What a shock. It's Shadow of the Collosus all over again.

>OMG GOAT! 10/10 reviews on all sites! SONY WON Bros!
>only sells 1.5 million copies

Look at the original trailers, it looked way more creepy and weird than the final product

Something definitely changed

We don't know, it might be Kojima and his weird ideas about building bridges and shit like that

All of that is bullshit. You can clearly see Kojima was going for the walking simulator thing right from the start, just look at any of the marketing ffs.

The first trailer are in the game r-tard

>Look at the original trailers, it looked way more creepy and weird than the final product
The first two trailers all use concepts that exist in the final game.

>More ESL retard fanwank

Keep coping

Nah I bet sony wanted some horror shit after PE but Kojima with his ego wants artsy fartsy bullshit about muh connection muh strand.

>No idea why they changed the original concept
They didn't change anything. Kojima was talking about sticks and ropes and the whole connecting people thing in 2016 already. What we got is what he envisioned back then, i don't know why would you believe some random person from resetera.

I'm certainly sure that the game was supposed to be psychological horror similar to Silent Hill.

I am almost sure that something changed.

>be a corporate suit
>see that your superstar developer who you're committed to is making a game of a niche genre that projects to not sell well at all
>get visibly frustrated and want to screech
>executive meddle and force him to change it
>actually just changes it from one niche to another
in my headcanon this is what actually happened because it's hilarious

The whole "game changed at the last second" might be, but consider the following. Maybe the game we got is actually better than what Kojima was cooking and Sony stepped in at the last minute to salvage it.

The other part about it selling like shit I don't doubt at all. There's only so many autists that can enjoy playing delivery boy for 40 hours to get a shitty story.

>>see that your superstar developer who you're committed to is making a game of a niche genre that projects to not sell well at all
That's honestly what makes this believable and not entirely unlikely. It wouldn't surprise me if Kojimbo got told to put some more gameplay elements in the game and stuff like vehicles to try and salvage it, especially considering how rushed everything besides the walking was.

Kojima is a fucking hack. You faggots all REEEEEd that Konami "rushed" him to release his unfinished masterpiece that was MGSV but the mother fucker had 5 years+ development time and almost bottomless funding. The execs wanted some return on their investment and he was still motion capturing Joosten's pores on her feet and paying celebrities to eat lunch with him.

Remember all those AAA 80s songs that cost a fortune to liscense and he stuck in a menu that was cumbersome to access and didnt really do anything? Fuck this hack fraud fart smelling douche

Maybe, but video game executives have a really bad habit of deciding that consumers no longer want to play certain kinds of games. I dunno if they're leaning on extremely narrow focus groups (13 year old boys who checked the "yes" box next to "do you play Call of Duty" being the most typical focus group) or their own children's opinions, or just pulling ideas out of their collective asses, but time and again, they've said a genre or style of game is dead, and then someone makes one anyway and it does really well. Bravely Default, RE7, even that new Star Wars game. They've been trying to claim that single player games in general are dead for decades, and it's never been true.

im not a kojima hater but thats some funny shit
he really likes burgers huh

honorary burgmerican

Whats with the faces?
Is it supposed to be funny?
Is Norman a bit tardy?

Even if that happened Kojima still takes a fair bit of the blame because he went to those executives for funding. If you want to make an art game, don't run up the kind of bills that require you to hand creative control over to the accountants.

I'm betting they begged him to include some actual gameplay in his delivery boy simulator and he made some "bosses" real quick.

>Kojima is an overrated hack that wastes a shit ton of money on his "vision" only for the games he puts out to never make as much as he (and the actual companies helping fund them) put into them
Woah woah woah, stop the presses

miyazaki was wrong

This. Coming from PT's success and the early trailers I was under the impression this was going to be a horror game. I was disappointed it wasn't.

>that feel when Kojima is on a horror kick for game stories, but all you really wanted was another ZOE style game.

I highly doubt Sony suits made Kojimbo blow half his budget on shitty B-list actors and implemented retarded shit like piss mechanics and "Mario and Princess Beach".

>It's Shadow of the Collosus all over again.
Uhh.. except SotC delivered and will be an all-time great for its silent movie themes and creative gameplay. Death Stranding had shit story, shit writing, and shit gameplay. Here's your (you), faggot.

They just needed to make him pivot off the horror game. I don't actually believe that they did, but if so, there's no reason to think the executives were right. Their track record for arbitrarily deciding what you don't want to play is very bad.

I for one believe everything I read on the Internet. Especially when it has no source.

As much as I love the MG series, and respected Kojima in the last decade, suits from Sony trying to salvage Kojima's project is much more plausible in my opinion.
The media was gloating and salivating about every tiny detail about the game, but Kojima just don't give a fuck. He thinks that he really can do no wrong.

Remember that era where they arbitrarily decided that the only enemies anyone wanted in games were men with ak-47s, and even zombies or men with kar98s were too risky?

So did the suits salvage it? Or did they cause the very thing they tried to prevent?

Death Stranding is still a masterpiece.

t. obsessed Kojima hater

We will never know.
In my opinion, salvage it. They got a product out that sold, there are people who loves it and will sell more on PC.
In an alternate universe a pseudo SH could exist, be amazing and sold much more.
In an alternate universe the game could not be ready yet and more millions are being poured into it.
It is fun to speculate.

Wait till you see the ending.

retard

Well, I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Funny how both are hacks

> Still salty about MGSV
> even to this day

still is

Both sound retarded but the emojis really solidify Kojima's statement as the worst thing I'll read this month.

If I somehow live long enough to see this game become a "cult classic" im gonna blow every ounce of brain matter out of the top of my head

I believe that it flopped, but I don't believe that it got suddenly rebooted late into development. I believe it was always going to be a delivery simulator.

when 90% of the game is deliveries across the same areas repeatedly and playing jenga balance with a dozen boxes, while the last 10% is notable gameplay for "boss fights" and sloppy encounters interspersed with KOJIMA CUTSCENES, I can see the game sales dropping off.

>implying there is any there

I'm guessing you guys don't remember the MGS5 trailers. The initial trailers for that also had an extremely different tone from the rest of the game. People thought that was a horror game at first, too.

Its everyone else's but Kojimas fault

This was a very based scene

Fake news way to many people streaming it on ps4 every day average 60 streamer sekiro got 20 and re2 40

>every single cutscene from the trailers is in the game
>dude it rebooted and completely changed the tone
literally making shit up because you dont know what else to criticise anymore

It's because they genuinely can't conceive of the possibility that someone could intentionally make a game like this on such a budget and that it could be approved and published. It had to have been an accident in their minds.

Miss the point he was making. It sold like 1 million maybe 2 if it was multiplat it would have sold hot cakes from the austism that follows that game alone. I know it's on my "looks interesting list" but not buying a console for 2 games

Then explain why Armored Core 4 and 4A have difficulty settings Miyazaki.
