All of this hassle to reinvent an already rock solid gameplay loop because youre ashamed that Exoddus wasnt your "original vision"

They also took the "Oddworld doesn't work in 3d" meme way too far. Munch's Oddysee came out in 2001 on new hardware that OWI weren't used to yet. It was extremely flawed and full of rookie mistakes, but it wasn't like it was horrible. There's no reason to think that they would have made those mistakes again in Munch's Exoddus or Squeek's Odyssee. Stranger's Wrath already showed significant improvement.
lorne himself talked a little shit about looting and crafting during the demo he showed off, but said something like "its not exactly how you expect, its very fitting for this game". So ill give him the benefit of the doubt until we see more. it does sound and look like a shitty idea though

The dumbest shit is that now a lot of stuff from Munch is how Soulstorm functions. You have a limit on posession time now. That makes no sense in a 2D game.
Should i get Stranger's Wrath HD? I never played the original but I watched my dad play it when it released. and I beat the final boss for him but I dont remember ANYTHING about it

its alright/decent. its hardly an oddworld game in terms of gameplay or setting. the story is very minimal and far between, but its a cool one overall.
Yes, absolutely. I don't want to sound like a shill but it really is a masterpiece. My only big complaint is that some characters have a really goofy voice that undermines the seriousness of the plot, but they're not too prevalent.
as far as I know that is squeek. the descriptions of him and his story fitted that art as well. him being a small useless worm like creature or something. He requires the mechanical body given to him to live a normal life but theyre trying to take it away from him. the body is property of the glukkons or something

That was supposed to be the entire point, Oddworld wasn't supposed to be stapled to a single genre or character or location, and yet three of the four games take place on one continent and feature the same heroes and baddies, in different configurations. Stranger's Wrath is proof that Oddworld can break its own mold and still be unmistakably Oddworld.

I don't think its very oddworld to basically 1:1 rippoff the old west/cowboy setting. Including the way people talk, the way they dress, the buildings and town structure, the weather and look of the world, the stereotypical professions of the period (bounty hunter, the towns general store, saloon). Its not an oddworld game its a cowboy game with aliens swapped out for humans. I still like it, but its very lacking.

Oddworld has always been a mirror to the real world with big heaping scoops of magic vs. technology mixed in, Stranger's Wrath isn't lacking in either. The main character's whole driving force is his attempt to distance himself from his own mystic race stuff.
Only difference is that the previous games had less of an obvious pastiche even with all their elements of corporate corruption and brutality in the name of business.
oddysee and exodus are have hints of the real world while remaining very alien and unique (ODD). Strangers wrath is a cowboy game with aliens. If you don't agree with me that the first two games are way way WAY more interesting and distinct in terms of setting, races, designs, music, than strangers wrath, I don't even believe you played the originals

Exoddus was completed in less than a year. Its a corporate rush job only redeemed by quiksave.
The fact it manages to come out at that quality at all just hsows how a good workflow and director can make things work no matter the constraints.
You should have seen the shit Lorne was trying to pull off for Munch during production, he wanted a fully simulated ecosystem with populations of flora and fauna along with all that would entail like dynamic day night cycles and more.

I havent been burned by the franchise yet (not a turbo sperg even though I've loved it since day 1) so I'm excited as hell.
The original two game are literally commentary on capitalism user, they might seem ODD to you but to imply that using animal critters to catch gang leaders and general bad guy leaders dead or alive while on a journey of self discovery and coming to the realization that ANOTHER species has been brought to its knees and driven to near extinction isnt ODD is silly at best.
You take out CEOs and destroy supply lines for entire cities potentially.
Compared to Munch all the other games are tame as shit
How are the PC versions of the first two games anyway? I seem to remember hearing about issues with crashing, but I might be misremembering.
Lorne is seriously like Aonuma at points, being upset that a quickly made high quality game isnt exactly what you wanted it to be. Aonuma doesnt get why people enjoy Majora.

Majora has enormous faults that most ignore to praise the story. I find it way to handholding and linear personally.

exoddus is the best 2d puzzle platformer ever made, and has aged immaculately control-wise
Its tile based.
That alone makes it unplayable for many.
For many others it accentuates the puzzle aspect.
Its okay to like both because New N Tasty has puzzles that would have been impossible with the screen based scrolling and vice versa.
Imagine exoddus without quicksave.
Its no longer the best anything because how frustratingly long it takes to retry extremely difficult segments.
it being tile based is part of why it has aged so well, it's incredibly tightly designed and every puzzle works perfectly. and yes the quicksave is part of why it's so much better than 1. why bother with hypotheticals like what if it didn't have quicksave.. it does have it
Because claiming that its so amazing when half that reason is down to it having a self set checkpoint system isnt a good look.
I fucking love the series but I'm so so blind to assume its the that great. It has TONS of flaws and many of the puzzles just arent that good until you reach Necrum because the difficulty curve is all over the place.
And I'm a huge fucking Oddworld fan to the point I kickstarted the art book right next to me.
I can be critical of the things I love, its much better because otherwise people might think its without flaws and go in expecting something smooth when its the farthest from that as it can be. Making sure new players expectations arent wildly off base is just as important as gushing over the things we love about it.

And I said the tile based nature is an instant turn off for the majority of potential new players.
That along with its muddy visuals make it very dated.
That doesnt mean its a worse game.
That just means it needs to be said so others arent immediately dismissing a potentially fantastic experience because "its not as good as user said"
