Fantasy shooters?

Dead genre? All I want is a game with magic, guns, fantasy creatures to shoot and bullshit tavern quests to do. All Final Fantasies aside, what are my options in 2020?

There's some cool stuff in there but I was kind of hoping someone made a new Hexen or something. Away and Hocus Pocus look pretty neat though ngl. I remember when Yas Forums played that Megaman game too, good times.

I don't think OP can bump, but I'll prime a potential discussion with a list nonetheless
>Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
>Project Warlock
>Hexen
>straight DOOM mods
>Dishonored
>Heretic
>Ziggurat
From the top of my head. If you have the choice between fireballs or buckshot for the goblin horde, I want in.

Amid Evil was pretty close unless you are looking for tavern quests. Hedon was also pretty damn good once you got into the game. Starts of fairly weak though

>Amid Evil
>look it up on steam
>"Once branded a HERETIC, you..."
Nice, will check out

Amid Evil.

Amid Evil is great but it doesn't play much like Heretic.

I could tell from the trailers, I just thought it was neat to nod towards their inspiration.

Hard Reset Redux is 1.99 USD, yea or nay?

Who remembers this?

>Fantasy

Well, we take what we can get. I guess in some ways sci-fi is fantastic, but eh. I'd be happier with Painkiller again, but I already beat that a few times.

How we feeling about Witchfire?

Looks nice so far. Will it have COOP by any chance?

It's an ok game. Just don't play it on hard. It suffers from bulletsponge enemies

Did Painkiller have coop? If so, probably.

I always wanted to make a Hexen-like game in ID Tech 1 Engine.

I just don't know how.

It plays more like Quake/Turok/Unreal but the setting is very reminiscent of Heretic. Also the not-Tome of Power effect.

Play REKKR

I, too, would like more games like Strife OP

God I fucking love Hexen.

Cautiously excited, hope my pc can run smoothly.

>Looter Shooter
fuck

I upgraded to run Bannerlord, hoping that carries me into the 2020s but I'm also aware that we're entering a fugue state in the gaming industry where fiscal quarters will pass by and require an upgrade as opposed to YEARS that would pass before upgrades became mandatory.

WRATH Aeon of Ruin

>Arx Fatalis
another one, though aids physics controls.

Eh, Wrath is fantasy in the same way Doom or Quake are.

There's a magical battle royale coming out soon I think, might be good, battle royals that aren't just shooters tend to be pretty fun (play maelstrom)

Would you put Ion Fury and Wrath together? We've moved away from "fantasy FPS with guns, swords, and magic" to "doom clones where YOU shoot the fireball," but I kind of expected that.

Thoughts on project warlock? it was a fun and short game.

>Thoughts on project warlock?

it was a fun and short game

Very fun but as you say, short. Would definitely support the devs if they adapted the game into a roguelite/like.

>if they adapted the game into a roguelite/like.

Extend the gameplay and give some variety. Base game is very fun, gameplay loop is pleasing, levels look pretty good. Adapt it with procgen levels using already made assets, sprinkle in some spells and weapons, add safe spots for upgrades and bam, you have more PW. Yes yes, you can play the main game as many times as you want, but I've done that. I'm thinking make a Project Warlock version of Mooncrash, a DLC roguelike that stands alone. See Synthetik Legion for how to do it right.

I got halfway through project warlock and kind of lost interest. Realizing finding all secrets is really just case of unfing every wall and that it's all so fucking flat just made me lose interest. I enjoyed everything else up to that though.

Friendly reminder.

that staff on the right panel gives me serious zuran orb vibes

Yeah, it's a pretty cool staff.

This thread was more successful than I had anticipated, I definitely have a few things to try and a couple things to look forward to

Catacomb 3d.
Shadowcaster.
Witchaven.
Ultima Underworld.
Arx Fatalis.
Vermintide 1-2.

Redux is worse than the original. The original is a unique take on the Painkiller style "doors lock kill everyone" by making your character slow enough that you need to rely heavily on AOE and environmental attacks to thin the numbers. Redux makes you the dashes from Shadow Warrior, so it just turns it into another formulaic Painkiller clone. There's also a sword, but it's useless against almost everything except the new enemies that are designed explicitly to be killed by the sword because they're slow and weak. Redux is just a worse Shadow Warrior.

lichdom battlemage but it's bad don't play it.

F

Thanks Activision!

Risen 3?

Play Daikatana

Not even kidding. Install the 1.3 unofficial patch. It's pretty good and it has a lot of level variety.

Episode 3 of Daikatana is actually pretty rad

Looks more like shadow warrior 2013 than painkiller IMO

Loot shooter? I don't know how to feel about that.

Lichdom Battlemage and you should definitely play it. unless you're a scrub, then don't.

What specifically about looter shooter sets off alarms? There's no way they'd ape things like Borderlands or Destiny, that's a truly dead genre.

I'd map for Heretic but honestly the limited texture and flat selection kind of turns me off. As for Hexen, I'm too lazy to learn to script.

Great game ruined when playing on multiple displays, always reverts back to the default resolution.

wish there were more wizard shooters

Nightmare Reaper already did that. It's pretty good but it's ugly as sin.

Because it seems to play like Destiny?

The Wheel of Time

Well thats probably the worst video you could link on it because that guy is a boring sap and an energy vacuum, I feel depressed after watching that.

But Witchfire looks like the game Ive wanted my entire life. I always loved Heretic and Hexen. Id love if it in Witchfire you could dual-wield pistol and magic and that could be your trade off for not using a two-handed weapon. But, at least from their trailers it looks cool.

The dev looks like he's strung out on meth

I need you to elaborate, I've only got about 40 hours of D1 under my belt. To me it just looks like an FPS.

Not him and not saying they are necessarily similar from that video, but the developers have literally cited Destiny as a source of inspiration for the game, so...

There was this one another fantasy shooter from the 90s but different than heretic and hexen but i don't recall the name..
