Coven of Dusk/Dungeon Crawler Thread

>first dungeon has a simple cipher
>punishes you for cracking it and sends you back to the story
This doesn't bode well.

What are you even talking about

??????

It's fun, wait until you reach the Dwarves

this game is great OP

>Dungeon Crawler Thread
I feel like this genre is an excuse to make low effort games. Of course some good ones exist but there's so much low effort crap around.

Not him but probably this.

Dialogue is the first area is coded until you get a thing to interpret it.

If you work out what it says without that thing, you get told to go back and do the story anyway.

Low cost. That's not the same as low effort.

The fact it's low cost does however allow for more lazy attempts too though.

Yes
That's why I'm making one

sequel never ever

WHY EVEN LIVE

It was announced and it got delayed. Not cancelled.

>hurrdurr NIS is dead tho
Have literally released multiple games since and have just announced another today.

What do you mean? Refrain has a sequel already.

Depends on how far you're pushing. You can definitely be both. There's a bunch of experience dungeon crawlers using the same exact monster sprites.

To be fair, a lot of games from the 80s to 90s had to save space where they could and recoloring is the easiest way to do that. I was annoyed when it was still happening in Nocturne, too.[/spoiler

I wonder how they plan on topping the story on the first one

>have just announced another today.
They have? You don't mean the collaboration event, do you?

I don't mean within the same game. Like weak orc green, later in the game stronger orc red. I mean it shares sprites in between games. You'll see the same orc sprite in pretty much all of their dungeon crawlers.

why does the intro play twice?

it's a NIS game they just want to make VNs about demure animes but theyre really bad at it and when it winds up being 100+ hour story deeply rooted in the same boring anime tropes they go "fuck it" and slap a glorified math spreadsheet of a game over it

>the "titans" in the gnome village
I think I preferred the Etrian Odyssey games but man oh man this game has some real memorable moments.

Sometimes I wish they didnt overthink when designing these dungeon crawlers. Certain sections in some of atlus' dungeon crawlers become meh because of bullshit puzzles like teleporters or traps.

Anime adaptation of Coven of Dusk would be fun to watch.

By god is Atlus guilty of that one.
Even if you say that, though, isn't it more pragmatic for games in the series to share monster designs? After all, the enemies are all part of the cast in an RPG. Like Jack Frost or Slime, or Chocobo.

It's a hit or miss. EO has some fun dungeon gimmicks so I wouldn't say it's inherently bad. It does have some bad ones too though like the vines in X.

I think the problem with the vines was more to do with the shrines being so repetitive. Each one was five floors and had the same music and tilesets until the very end, it really slowed down my playthrough with how repetitive it was.

Fun game.

>Even if you say that, though, isn't it more pragmatic for games in the series to share monster designs?
I'm not talking about the same series though. Stranger of sword city has nothing to do with pic related and they both use the same goblin sprite for instance.

Oh that was yesterday senpai.

>NIS game

What? How is this someones image of NIS? I'm genuinely fucking baffled what mental gymnastics you went through to end up with your image of NIS being a studio that writes stories about modest girls.

i just wish their new game, void, would release on PC

Eventually, why not? Even usohime got a pc version and I bought a vita for that back then. Not that I regret buying one, it's hacked and I've been playing a ton of shit in it.

user the image in question is a dungeon crawler.

>Usohime got a PC version
Liar Princess?

Western release was PS4/Switch, no PC.

I know because I'd have bought half my friends copies by now if it was on PC

I really enjoyed the plot progression. Also, how dark things end up.

I haven't played this game in a year. I remember being stuck in the forest dungeon and I have to grind to get the poison resistance or something and I just stopped playing

What the fuck I could swear I saw it on steam.

Someone post Alice after you use the staff or whatever.

Nicely done, user.

Dumb faggot deserved worse for me having to navigate his stupid castle

please, have pity on him, he probably can't afford a dictionary

That's a boy?

I hope

It's a monster (male)

I still think a lot about this game, especially the first ending and the postgame.
I really want the sequel to come out soon and the director/script writer to direct more games.

>Titans in the gnome village
>Whatever the fuck is
What actually happens in this game? Spoil me.

How is the PC port for this? I have a vita, a ps4 and a switch so I also have these other options. Would I be safe to assume PC is the way to go though?

It starts like a cute misterious witch story. It ends up in literal living chaos.
Dark stories, mandatory dead ends, rape...

What are people's opinion on pic related? Its personally my favorite dungeon crawler since it scratches my itch for a good dungeon exploration. This felt like a metrovania of dungeon crawlers.

How story heavy and edgy is it?

Cute, heartwarming story that goes through several depressing, self-contained dungeon tales. At the end, all hell breaks loose.
The characters are really nice and the way the details are spread out gives you time to think about what the character relationships might be before they're revealed. It's a really good story with really engaging characters, where everything goes bad but people end up happy anyways.
It also has several passages of body horror, rape, NTR. It doesn't hold back.

about 30, 40 lbs, table knife-ish

>body horror
alright
>rape
yeah
>NTR

>Gore
Yeah ok, I guess
>Rape
I can stomach it, it can be an be an interesting character trauma but a bit overused nowadays
>NTR
Nope, fuck that I'm out.

>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT NTR
fucking ironic weebs are the worst

You are me and I am you.

>durr durr ntr good
at best its cringe, at worst it feels bad.
what kind of sicko enjoys ntr unironically?

>Enjoy the cheating Goy

I didn't say it was "good" but I'm not going to avoid playing a good game because it has NTR in it.

You guys realize Ocarina of Time has NTR in it, right?

the fact that theres no porn of monster boy alice is a crime
