I like New Vegas, but it is definitely overrated. Both things can be true.

Usually yes. Good criticism is direct. "Too many other people like it" isn't a logical way to assess something. How much popularity us too much? Can't be quantified.

Overrated games are a result of an echochamber of people with no dissenting opinions. They think the game is the best because they don't hear opinions that break his skewered point of view.

Overrated doesn’t mean something is bad but that it gets arguably more praise than it deserves.

For instance, Dark Souls is a good game, but there are certain people that overrate it and gloss over its flaws.

Alternately, there are things which aren’t necessarily flawed, but for whatever reason, people give undue praise to the qualities that they do possess, like Undertale which is flawlessly executed aside from that one weirdo furry

Overrated is a word that people who can't properly critique things often use. I'm not saying you can't explain why something is overrated but it's generally a meaningless statement that isn't criticizing the thing but the cult of personality around the thing.

People go to Yas Forums threads to discuss games they like, then go to Youtube that tailor your recommended videos to only showcase games you like, then move on to social media to discuss games they like. It's not an exclusive case against UT, most people overrate their games because they don't seek dissenting opinions, because they don't need to.
