Leveling stats are all static. Some hidden items are for cheevos and sub-quests. Dialogue choices give you rep with the different factions and vendor upgrade weapons are locked behind these factions.

The japanese market has been crippled by shit taste and too much cash, and corporate greend, while small chinese devs, mostly the chink equivalent to otaku and doujin groups, are just making games that they themselves want to play.
It really sucks because alot of chink developers are really passionate but they're stuck under the heel of heavy censorship, even in places like HK and Taiwan

I won't say that their games are high quality yet, but they usually offer extremely good value for their price. For example, The Vagrant is a clone of Vanillaware games with combat noticeably better than any of the latter had in the original form, before remakes, and it costs like $2. The Bladed Fury is the same, except with art that is much less blatantly derivative, and costs like $5.

I hate that it's the way of the future, but if you can spend the time learning to read the 5000+ hanzi that are in common use, you will find yourself very pleased in like 5-10 years as more quality Chinese vidya hits the market.
OF course, the shit that's worth a damn will have been translated to English/Japanese already, but still.

You can buy matcha powder on amazon for relatively cheap, or probably your closets asian store has some. Just get some hot (tea-tier) water, put the matcha powder in, shake it (with a whip if you want to feel fancy) and drink. It's quite bitter and strong, a lot of people don't like it at first, most people that drink it eat some very sweet sweets (at least here in Japan) after drinking it to offset the bitter taste, it brings out the flavor of the sweets even more and it's delicious.

Murat should last and is worth investing in since he's 1 of the only 2 guaranteed light cavalry units in the whole game. Deastrix, the heavy Calvary dude may die as part of a plot event but all his progression is transferred to his sister who has better stats and special skill
