What's a better way of grinding up my forging/crafting levels: creating a million starter swords with iron, or creating higher tier items with better materials like silver and bronze?

Crafting 100 iron swords/shields then upgrading each one to level 10, make sure you keep them all as you'll use them for crafting autism shit later on

The former is slower but can do done early on. The latter is faster but caps you pretty hard on your available materials.

Upgrading low level shit with whatever random shit you don't need since it gives a fixed percentage of your exp bar no matter the material or RP consumed

I just got to the firefly festival only to find that I fell just short of being able to ask forte out to it because the day I got her to 7 FP was the day before the festival and I don't have any prior helpful saves I can start over from. Now I feel sad that I can't go out with her for a whole year now.

You can do that when you have nothing left to do. It's not worth going to sleep early for that. Even if you sleep late every day you will still level it up with runes.

The way is to save before you sleep every day and pass an order to delay it that night.
Note that you should legitimately think about whether you'd rather have crops or a lot of wood and stone before going through with it.

Well,I need stone, but I had the whole garden planted to level up seeds, so I don't want to lose crops. Especially since they're close to done.
