Smashfags have a long history of jumping the gun and acting like something is "pretty much confirmed", and then they're not. Look at the recent embarrassment Dante and Arle fans went through. This has been going on since Brawl over a decade ago. It's OK to want something, but prematurely celebrating that HE'S IN will usually end poorly.

Not on the same level but he is an icon of 3D platformers. He came around during a period where Mario 64 was the king of the genre and Rare created a game that was almost if not equally as good. People talked about him in the same vein as Mario and DK in the late 90s. If Microsoft never bought Rare, who knows how massive Banjo could have been but ti doesn't change the impact he left during his era. It's just one of those things zoomers will never understand and you had to be there to really experience it.

At the time, Banjo-Kazooie looked better than Mario, had a better art-style, better characters/writing, and larger levels with more to do in them by way of challenges and different gameplay styles beyond just platforming. It was more of an adventure game than a straight plat-former like Mario or Crash. Of course now, every 3D-Platformer is also an adventure game so it's not quite as special now as it was when your only choice of 3D-Platformers was Mario and Crash, at a time when 3D-Platformers were the brand new thing that everyone wanted to play. If they ever made a new BK, they would have to completely rework their controls to make them more satisfying to actually platform with, I believe that's where Yooka-Laylee went wrong and Impossible Lair went right, they both have great worlds to explore but Impossible Lair actually nailed the "feel" of a good platformer.
