Where did it go wrong? Was it just the shitty proprietary memory cards?
Where did it go wrong? Was it just the shitty proprietary memory cards?
One word: Sony.
/Thread.
Iwata paying for MH exclusivity for 6 years.
The Vita (or NGP back then) was announced with an extensive MH presentation by Capcom but 9 months later, MH3G and MH4 were both announced at the same time to be on 3DS to make sure everyone knows that future MH titles will not come to the Vita. Also Iwata made sure that MH3G came out a week before Vita comes out for maximum damage.
The karma is that Iwata died of ass cancer so everything works out evenly.
Iwata living rent free in your head lmao
Lack of games will kill even the best console.
Having great games can make even the worst console sell.
I can't name a single game for the PS Vita so that's probably why
Does it matter? Iwata is dead because of ass cancer and because of all his money hatting of the MH franchise, MHW surged in popularity like crazy not on Nintendo. Imagine if he was still alive to see what he had done...
It’s a combo of many bad decisions.
>expensive memory cards bloat the entry price up too high
>no real killer app like PSP’s GTA/Monster Hunter, only nice-but-ultimately-forgettable tier versions of Sony’s big console series
>complete abandoment on the first party front after the bad launch period
Never ever switchfags. Never ever
le persona 4 golden machine
It was a handheld without Pokemon
Kllzone Mercenary and Freedom Wars came out much later after the launch period.
I wish I could dispute this, but I did get a Vita primarily for P4G
for me, it's le PSX/PSP emulation machine
Holy shit, this dude got the entire Vita library
For me, it's Project Diva f
Sony fucked it up, the handheld was great but Sony really is an awful company.
lmao
Sony killing support of its own console fairly early
Proprietary memory cards and outrages prices for said cards
Limited game library with the majority of games being in Japan and most published by the same companies (Atlus, Nippon Ichi etc.)
That's mostly what I know, it's a shame because it was a really great console by itself, but oh what could've been. So many what ifs.
For me, the worst thing was the lack of all the weirdo creative games that were abundant on the PSP.
Where was Patapon?
Where was Locoroco?
Where was Namakaida, or the Prinny series, or the Dept. Heaven games, or a decent Katamari game, or ANYTHING that wasn't either gimmicky touchpad bullshit or ANIME GIRL VISUAL NOVEL DUNGEON-CRAWLING RPG #51720? Why did developers, Japan Studio especially, wimp out on the entire library?
>trying to play SotN on adrenaline
>always forget about the dumb touchpad in the back so in transforme into wolf form midfight
this thing is so dumb, why not make normal bumpers like the new 3ds
It's funny because it's true.
>t. Vitafag
You're missing out a cracked Vita can play every PS1 game (someone will come in and say it can't but it can't play some really obscure titles you're not going to play), every PSP game and the Vita has a great library
Crack your vita
what's the sony version of freeshop
vst or pkg or something, the homebrew on vita has shit naming conventions
anyway, throwaway account and you can play all the ps1 classics you like (if they don't rely too heavily on L2 and R2)
Yeah, basically. There was no reason for a handheld of that caliber to fail but they just HAD to make shitty proprietary cards for it that were slower than normal cards yet 4-5X the price. Didn't help that the operating system is so stupidly designed that if you wanted to go digital like they were pushing for with the system, you HAD to buy multiple memory cards because the OS doesn't allow you to delete a digital game without also deleting its save data. PSP did not do this so it was a purely grimey move on their part.
Sony legit doesn't care that you use pkg. I have 1 account connected to my PS4 and they haven't banned yet. They will ban you if you do trophy manipulation though
There's cases for both models of the Vita that have L2 and R2 triggers
>Pay $250 for our new handheld
>Also pay another $100 to actually use it
Yes. Nogames was also an issue but they could have worked past that if the console itself wasn't consumer-repellent
I'm thinking of buying this for persona 4G and emulation, should I do it lads?
Thinking about investing in either a PSP or PS Vita for homebrew and piracy. Which is more worth it? Is it worth getting a Japanese vita because their price seems to be much lower.
not for more than 80$ for the console
Yes the Vita is a legit good handheld you just need to crack it. What model are you getting? OLED or LCD?
vita can do everything the psp can and then some
drawback is you don't get a UMD drive I guess..?
The Vita is better then the PSP because it has the touch screen on the back and gets ports of PS3 and PS4 games. Also if the game is released on the PSV and the PS4 the Vita version won't be censored. The Vita can also play the entire catalogue of the PS1 and PSP, it also has a way better screen then the PSP
FUCK iwata
That was the primary reason I never got one, yeah. Even after they were cracked.
ever heard of sd2vita retard
You do know you can now use normal microSDs in the Vita right?
Going from a Vita screen to 3DS makes me want to tear my fucking eyeballs out. Vita is the best handheld ever
3DS is just better for emulating Nintendo games
Get the vita TV instead.
Not him but I haven't. Now I'm curious.
I remember seeing those heavily discounted in bargain bins shortly after launch and now they're fucking gold dust
Crazy how their value skyrocketed.
it acts as a game card but it's an adapter for normal sd cards
It's a microSD card adapter that goes in the Vita's videogame card slot
Based. Nintendo had all the best games in the 3DS for the handheld generation: MH, Etrian Odyssey, SMT just to name a few.
Considering getting the LCD because of the longer battery life
Honestly, I don't think the 8th gen was very good for handhelds overall. Even those games you posted mostly had better versions on the DS.
Yeah and they are fucking overpriced.
I agree the memory cards being expensive and propriety was what hurt the Vita. I have a 64GB memory card in my Vita and yeah it felt like I got ripped off since it cost $100. Meanwhile I can get a 64GB micro SD card for $10. I paid $32 for a 256GB micro SD card for my Switch and that was worth it.
-proprietary memory cards to try to help fight piracy (which is mostly amusing because the vita's literally only lasting legacy will be as a piracybox)
-Tried to appeal to a western audience early on, despite the fact that nobody who was interested in games like borderlands or uncharted wanted to play them on a portable console, dropped that support early on for the very few fans it did earn, and failed to localize basically any nip games meaning it was worthless for weebs also meant it just didn't have a big userbase in the west
-nintendo gobbled up MonHun exclusivity which was one of the driving forces of the PSP's success, which probably killed a lot of homeland interest
You guys are forgetting Soul Sacrifice Delta. Sure it is digital only in the west(can get a physical Asian English version) but it is exclusive on Vita.
Yeah go for it. I just did a few weeks ago, got a new-old-stock PCH1000 with memory stick included for a decent price (from Japan) and an SD2Vita. If you can follow instructions the setup is no problem at all. Didn't take more than an hour and most of that was waiting on file transfers because the Vita is pig fucking slow at that for no good reason. Hell, I even did it the hard way.
>Proprietary memory cards that were expensive
>No killer apps at launch or ever
>Focus on touch screen, other gimmicks, and AT&T partnership at E3 2011 irking buyers
>Piracy on the PSP irked devs away even more
>late on indie inclusion, axed an easy entry point for indies because hackers figured out how to run things on the console through it, twice
>gave up on support further driving devs away
>Stores werent moving stock related to it so they stopped buying brand new stock further driving publishers away
>Sales on the PSN store sucked ass for the most part and prices never budged
>GPS inside most models, cant use it
>wont update encryption methods even though they can, meaning you cant even access sonys website on the browser and some apps are busted because of it
Some times I think its intentional harm
Its honestly the best JRPG handheld by a country mile, even without emulation.
Every pre-5 persona game, definitive versions of FFT and Tactics Ogre, Disgaea 1-4, the PSX FF games as well as FFX, and most of the PSX JRPGs worth playing are available through PSN
Fortunately you can get an update for the browser and certs once you hack it, so there is that.
Is there really nothing other than whatever the fuck Near is that uses the GPS?
>monster hunter is a system seller
>Iwata paying for MH exclusivity for 6 years
What kind of coping mechanism is this?
You forgot minecraft, the best selling Vita game
So, is there any fix for dissidia's slow ass menus in adrenaline? I didn't know that the vita could suck even harder
>Talking shit about someone who died in terrible pain from a diease.
>Talking about karma in the same sentence.
threading a fine line their user.
>ports from other systems
wow you sure showed them
