Never played a Resident Evil game before. Should I just start with the Remake, or is it worth playing the original RE1? Also, is it worth playing RE0, or should I just move on to RE2 after?

RE4 is a perfectly valid place to start. It will spoil hardley anything as its main plot is entirely self-contained, and it's also one of the best action games ever made.
Play, in this order
REmake1, RE2, RE3, RE4, RE5 (with coop), RE7, REmake2, R3make
DO NOT play
RE0, RE6, Operation Racoon City, RE5 solo, or either of the Revelations
If you dont like REmake1 or the classic RE games, dont sweat it. Just move on to RE4 and onwards.
Me personally i dont like REmake1 but i respect it as objectively the best classic-style RE game
It's 100% orth playing in the prder of the release. Even the REmake will be far more fascinating experience once you know classic RE1.
if you play in order of release (1-3, CV, REm, Zero, 4-6), you won't get to REnake2 in a while. And as an old fan of the series, I'd honestly just stop playing the games after RE5, and move to Silen Hill 1-4 afterwards.
What makes 0 not worth playing?
>RE5 (with coop)
for all the shit and the unnecesssary controversies the game got, it was peak fucking comfy in terms of coop
nobody would blame you for playing REmake 1, REmake 2, REmake 3 and RE4 UHD Edition
but I think the PS1 versions of 2 and 3 are worth your time too
I never hear anyone talk about re0. I remember when remake 1 came out on pc so I torrented "Resident evil" on pirate bay to find out it was 0 after dling it for a few days straight - i was fucking fuming.
That depends, how much do you think you'll be able to deal with playing the older original version?
Both RE1 and REmake have (and should be played with) tank controls, but REmake is nicely expanded and has some nice QoL features that'll help ease you into the classic survival horror.
On the other hand, starting with RE1 will better prepare you for the original RE2 and 3, and is still a worthwhile game to play reguardless, as long as you can tolerate it being older.
Personally, I did start with REmake, and then went back to classic RE2 and 3, and I've had a ton of fun with the series.
I'm definitely planning on playing the original RE1 too, and then moving on with the rest of the series.
awful story, awful new enemies, only the very beginning and very end are good
I suggest you give it a try on a day where you're craving more RE and have already played the good ones, the opening segment on the train is incredible
just be prepared to feel massive whiplash later on
I feel the exact same way about Code Veronica as well
I dunno, its just a shit game.
The first chapter is really good but it quickly declines after that.
Give it a play once youve gone through everything else if you care enough
>Should I just start with the Remake, or is it worth playing the original RE1?
It is worth playing the originalS first, in plural. Also do replay them all; besides most of them having 2 characters, there are also a number of other replay value carrots.
If you absolutely cannot get to 1996 RE1, for what ever reason, REmake is a-OK alternative as a starting point. It plays near identical to the 1996-2003 classics though. In general, REm1 is the 10/10 pinnacle of the saga and survival-horror, and you can continue to OG RE2 smoothly from it.
Remake 2 is a totally different beast though. It's pretty much a reboot, and thus not a valid replacement to classic. Rem3 follows this suit as well.
If you get the opportunity, play RE4 on the wii, it's quite good with the aiming
Nothing, its just standard kneejerk Yas Forums reaction to treat it like the plague.
I would blame, bash, and verbally kill you instantly.
T: got into series for the first time via REmake in 2015, and played originals soon after. The 1990s RE > 2010s shooter garbo.
Fuck off
I honestly think RE5 is a fantastic game in general.
While it isnt a traditional RE game, it has some crazy tense sequences. Like those mosquito monsters that 1 shot you, or the chainsaw dudes at that oil plantation place.
It'll always have a special place in my heart
This. I don't think it was a good idea at all to take the franchise in that direction, but if you judge it on its own merits, the game is an absolute blast, especially in co-op
Nothing. It's a OK game. Pretty as fuck though.
Just like REmake, Zero too was a hostage on Nintendo's systems for a decade. Zero itself was quite unfortunate to get overshadowed and sandwiched between REmake and RE4, so folks just started to ignore it.
This post is prime example of why it's important to not tell people to immediately discard the original games.
Even if the remakes exist, the originals still have a lot to offer and might suit your tastes better.
BTW do you think CV has a good chance of being the next remake or is capcom gonna jump on 4 directly (even though it doesn't really need one)?
>BTW do you think CV has a good chance of being the next remake or is capcom gonna jump on 4 directly (even though it doesn't really need one)?
They've been (hopefully joking) about re-re-making RE1. Again. I shit you not.
Apparently, if it's not similar enough to late 2010's shooty-tooty games, it's not "financially advisable" to AAA studios. No matter that REmake's HD ports sold kazillions overnight, and were practically the sole reason RE7 and REm2 happened.
I played the first Resident Evil game last halloween and I was impressed with how good it is. You owe it to yourself to try the original if you care about good games or how games have changed over time.
I love the old RE1 but its aged like milk. Might get some fun out doing the remake after 1 I guess
if you do play the first one, do the DS version or psx NON dual shock Greatest hits version. dualshock version had shit tier replacement soundtrack youtube.com
>re-re-making RE1. Again
This would be stupid on sso many levels. Remake 1 is still incredibly solid, pretty and fun as fuck to play. CV could be great though, hopefully RE3 will be a big success and capcom will see that fans are waiting for that
Play REmake, remake 2, probably remake 3, 4, 5 and 7. Rest are shit, avoid Revelations in particular. Best ones are remake 1, remake 2 and 4.
>but its aged like milk
Hard disagree. I played it for the first time recently and it was a great time.
>Should I just start with the Remake, or is it worth playing the original RE1?
Definitely play the classic RE1, 2 and 3 first.
I seriously don't see any reasons why you wouldn't, even more so when the REmake PLAYS identical to the classics - just with a handful of new tricks and minor QOL improvements.
The first REmake was made by the original devs, to the veteran fans of the franchise, so the devs made sure to not only incorporate as many ideas they originally couldn't on PS1 hardware, but they also tried to ensure that returning players couldn't just safely rely on their past knowledge of RE1 to cheese it through.
Anyway, with the OG-RE1,you got... a mountain of options:
>The original 1996 RE on PS1, Saturn and PC (minor differences).
>the first "Director's Cut" version on PS1 and PC, with new content.
>the second, notorious "Director's Cut - Dual Shock Edition", with the terribad new OST.
>Nintendo DS port, "Deadly Silence"; arguably the best version with new stuff + QOL upgrades.
For RE2 and 3, there's a few less versions, but the GC ports are mostly sought-after ones.
There's fine PC ports too, but they aren't on digital distribution services, and need fan-patches to run OK now.
If you just wanna PLAY the games and that's it, and don't mind 240p visuals, just emulate the PS1 classics.

Literally everything released after RE4 are increasingly more and more shitty, you underaged Xbot tranny.
This. Original RE1 holds up extremely well, unless your first gaming system was an Xbox 360, and thought that you were getting into a simple and linear zombie-shootan series.
Ignore every other faggot, here's the order
Nostalgia trannies really need to be gassed.
Fine guide, but GC ports got the best visual mods these days.
>m-m-muh nostalgia!!
How to admit out loud that you're a nu-zoomer with no arguments.
I only got around playing these games near the age of 30. You just got shit taste, and keep enabling the decline of video games.
doing god's work, user
re 0 is my favorite.
I've played all these games at release faggot but you do you, whatever helps you cope.
>4fag
>criticizing ANYBODY for "enabling the decline of video games"
Holy shit, zero self awareness
>Really fucking love the first three games
>RE4 took away the god tier tank controls and camera and turned into some strange mix of call of duty and silent hill full of quick time events
>RE2make looked great
>Bullet sponge zombie enemies, Claire looks like a tranny and they cut B route content
>See RE3make trailer
>Jill looks like a man and acts like a huge SJW feminazi "FUCK YOU CARLOS"
What a disaster. of a franchise. Please Capcom leave the godly Dino Crisis1&2 game alone, don't ruin them like you trashed Resident evil
ok incel
>RE4 is a perfectly valid place to start
retard
>I've played all these games at release faggot but you do you,
Highly doubt. Post your collection with a time-stamp.
Cope, I'm a CLASSIC-fag, through and through, but RE4 was a magnificent game.
And no, RE4 is nothing like its later sequels, and was actually well designed, believe it or not.
>RE4 took away the god tier tank controls
It did not. Try playing it again.
The DEmake 2 and 3 are just garbage.
underageb& masquerading as an oldfag
For once i must agree with becca_face_annoyed poster, RE4 is a horrible starting point for RE.
You're still a faggot though
RE4 is tank controls you turbonigger. If you're gonna be a nostalgia addled boomer, at least do it right. Nice bait btw.
>Cope, I'm a CLASSIC-fag, through and through, but RE4 was a magnificent game.
You're a nostalgiafag for 4 trying to associate with people who liked the good games.
RE5 plays almost EXACTLY like 4, with encounters ripped right from it (except 5 had good boss fights, unlike 4), and 4 caused the fucking terrible OTS boom of the seventh generation.
You're a faggot, consider killing yourself, at the very least stop posting in these threads when you either a) take off those rose tinted glasses or b) stop trying so hard to fit in.
fuck jannies
RE5 has better gameplay than 4.
play in release order starting with PS1 RE1, REMake has some good twists for people who played it.
Stop defending the fucking abomination that was RE4. It was the beginning of the end and destroyed the integrity of a once great series. Now it's a shadow of it's former self infested by zoomers and trannies that feel identified with strong empowered females like Jill or Clare Trannyfield
have sex

Resident Evil 4 aka Call of Resident Evil 1 was the beginning of the down syndromification of the series and is one of the greatest tragedies in video game history. Capcom in their infinite wisdom released a spooky zombie game on a console for children and as a result of extremely poor sales of REmake they came to the wrong decision that the classic RE formula was flawed and needed to be changed. So in their infinite wisdom they dumbed the series down and turned it from a resource management survival horror series into a run-and-gun shoot the fuck out of everything explosions and 360 quantum kicks action game for brainlets. Sigh... thankfully RE is back on track with 7 :)
RE4 is a masterpiece. Blame capcom for letting the success go to their heads and fuck everything up
>thankfully RE is back on track with 7
RE7 was let's player bait for zoomies so that their epic streamer friends could do some live reactions about freaking out with all the jump scares
Re4 has tank controls retard
>remake 2 over original 2
Why? REmake2 fucks up the zapping system and cuts out content.
>RE5 has better gameplay than 4.
It really does not. The gameplay is much more linear, inventory system is more restricted, and it is simply not fun at all without a friend.
>thankfully RE is back on track with 7
Kill yourself, Jewdiepie homo.
>Why?
Because it's much more like my favorite game, the Last Of Us!
No gay save restrictions either.
>buy Resident Evil on launch
>like it
>buy it two more times the next year for the new content
>play the timed RE2 demo, like it a bit less
>beat RE2's scenarios, come out with a euphoric high from all that action
>keep playing
>buy the N64 version
>buy the dualshock rerelease after hearing about Battle Game
>get RE3 on launch and beat it within the night
>go out of my way to get a Dreamcast for CODE:Veronica
>wait a few years but get a GCN for REmake and 0
>0 was a step down, but I heard the PS2 entries were fine and RE4 was going to be GCN exclusive
>RE4 demo comes out
>thisisn'tre.png
>think it must just be a slice of the action to get people hyped for RE4
>get RE4
>drop it when you get to that gay castle and the chick gets kidnapped again
>trailers drop for RE5, looks like a great return to the horror aspects of the series
>Ozwell Spencer is there
>Wesker is there
>Sherry is finally back after all these years
>buy it, avoid leaks
>find out it plays identically to RE4, but bear through it in the hope that it'll at least wrap up CV's loose plot threads
>Spencer died off screen
>Wesker has completely changed his goals
>Sherry is completely forgotten, the blonde chick was Jill of all people
>at least the story is over though
>Revelations, ORC and 6 all happen
>they all look like shit and utterly pointless
>drop the series and never look back
>He didn't play Hardcore
Your kind isn't welcome here
Rev2 is fine
On the contrary.
It's still a shitty game.
If you like slow paced games with focus on exploration go with REmake, if you want a bit more of focus on action go with REmake 2.
I'll just let you know that there's weirdos like me out there that love the original RE1 and aren't big fans of REmake.
