This actually got a laugh out of me because I spent a really long time scavenging around the house looking for fresh batteries when I had a GBA. I'd rob all the TV remotes and small house appliances and kept all the batteries in a single box where I'd mix and match them to get a green light. A real battery economy.
This makes zero sense, there's no way something you charge and remove from the wall takes more electricity than an old console that has to be plugged in at all times.

I looked up the power consumption of different handhelds/consoles:

70 mAHrs. Since it takes AA batteries (1.5V), it has a power consumption of about 105mWHrs (it can draw 105mW in one hour).

19W, 23W, 13.7-16W

3AHrs. Since it's charged at 4 5V (USB), it has about 12WHrs (approximately)
