You niggers will argue over everything

I actually like grinding, it's relaxing

Grinding is comfy

I mean you’re not wrong
Literally any SMT game falls in this category

I don't mind if there's enough to explore on the map to find all the hidden chests or whatever
But if it's just walking back and forth in one spot for multiple levels over a long time, I'm not a fan

If its fun action combat then its fine. If the grinding is an hour of turn based combat where you just press the basic attack button and the enemies have no chance of ever defeating you then thats absolute garbage

I typically don't mind grinding if it's something optional.

I think a good example is FFV. If you build your party around 4 jobs but then want to switch, you're gonna want to grind a little bit to try out the new jobs. AP rubberbands so you typically get your jobs up to a decent level kinda quickly if you're far enough in.
This is okay in my book because you're grinding to get something new, something you the player opted to strive for.

as long as it isn't too tedious, or the grinding itself is fun

Grinding is the best part of it.

There's nothing wrong with grinding in general, it's a matter of whether you like it or not.

Grinding has no place in single player games

The only thing I'm gonna grind is your mom

Grinding is fun in SMT because you are rewarded with being able to fuse new demons.

Now, low% droprates are horseshit and are artificial means of extending unfun gameplay

>if you press A 400,000 more times you can now press A and actually win against that one boss
grinding is to pad the game's length nothing else

You are correct
What I hate is getting back to back encounters after just taking a step
Let me advance

there is nothing to argue. rpgs NEED grinding. anything else is garbage.

As long as the grinding is enjoyable, I don't really mind it.

learn how to play SMT, physical/poison = no grinding

>physical/poison
Hi.

Half of FF2 was basically just "come up with the most retarded grinding strategy that works"

Good RPGs like Etrian Odyssey actively teach you that the left method is better because the only thing you need to do to steadily progress is just keep unlocking shortcuts throughout the dungeon and get further and further in each time.

It's good to have fights in between boss battles (trainer battles in Pokemon, random battles in FF, DQ, etc.) but you should level up enough in those fights that you can beat the boss at your current level. Bonus points if you need to change your gear to win the fight

Faggots

Both are virgins.

The best kinds of rpgs are ones you can level one playthrough

I only ever grind in the end game, I will struggle and push through the rest of the game at the level I'm at. Always been my style. Guess you could say I'm a pretty cool guy.

I don't mind grinding as long as the game isn't almost exclusively grinding. I like PSO2, SMT, and Final Fantasy. But games like Ragnarok Online and Maplestory drive me crazy.

A good example for games like Nethack, Etrian Odyssey, or dungeon crawlers. But not a good example for games that have shit like "My quest has amazing rewards but you have to bring me one hundered pig asses" or "If you want a piece of equipment that would really bring out the potential of your class, it drops exclusively from this monster at a 0.00001% drop rate".

Nothing requires grinding if you're resourceful enough

I didn't mind grinding when I only had a handful of games to play. Now I want to be done with shitty game #4678 and move on to shitty game #4679.

what if I don't want to grind my hips against the cute loli in the RPG

This. Most gaymers are faggot virgins.

uh oh gamers, we have a chad on our hands

You know what? Yeah. I would enjoy JRPG’s more if I played it with friends instead of my own. Too bad there rarely is any that I know of and I don’t have any friends.

Dab on em

I don’t mind grinding in games where the combat is actually fun. Grinding in TWEWY is great since not only can you make up your own combos and chain together how many fights you want in a row but the more you challenge yourself, the more big dick rewards you’ll get. It’s a really satisfying gameplay loop.

Wizardry clone.

Grinding is fine as long as the process for it is fun and the rewards/upgrades you get are nice

I have a limited time to be alive and an even more limited time to play games why would I want to "grind" a single player game?

Grind is bad in every game. Grind, by definition, is gameplay that is not fun that is required for progression because then you get access to the part of the game you actually enjoy. This is cancerous. Games should be composed of only the enjoyable parts. There is no benefit to including grind.
You people are the reason the average AAA game is 50 hours long instead of 15 hours long.

What about games that are only grinding like Monster Hunter?

I don't think that's fair. Monster Hunter has fun combat and hunting and fighting monsters is fun. It's the core content of the game and tks designed to stand on its own. I don't think that can be considered grind, other than being forced to collect X amount of small animals before you are allowed to fight the monsters you actually want. Grinding is like in AC Odyssey where you can't progress in the campaign until you level up by farming shitty enemy encampments with awful combat that. It's unfun gatekeeping on purpose. That's how I define grinding.

name one game where its absolutely necessary to grind

games where as long as you fight every encounter you come across and apply/use good equipment, tactics and strategy for difficult battles you'll be fine don't count

Farming for drops and grinding for levels used to be separate terms

So something like this then?

>Played Dragon Quest 1 on NES about 10 years ago
>Took ages to grind to level 25 and beat the game
>A months ago
>Play it again on an emulator with fast forward and turbo keys
>Took about 12 hours to beat
>Huh, let's try playing that with max level and best gear at the beginning of the game
>Took 1 hour to beat
>All that grinding just to read some text and see the end screen
JRPGs suck and I hate myself for wasting my life grinding in them.

huge waste of time

Some games are longer than 50 hours and don't require grinding
Yes, they are old games
bitch

but it's a poor surrogate for actual content

don't get mad when i dab on your taste

I suppose. Here's a good question: would you say there's grinding in Doom? The game is nothing but fighting monsters and hunting for keys. That's all the content. However, there's no minimum monster fighting required to finish the level. I really think the gatekeeping is the key to definite grinding vs content.

It's something to do to slow down and think about the best way to progress. It beats fighting a boss over and over again and just getting frustrated.

Grinding I can handle, grinding under a time limit I can not.

Hahaha le ironic racism! So funny! Grow up. Does it kill you to be a decent human being? That word has an entire history of hatred and struggle behind it, yet chuds like you think it should be said to emphasis points.

If it requires grinding it better have SOUL because if its MMO/Generic bland shit art/graphics Im not doing that shit I like to inmerse myself gaming I dont 'zone out' so it would be extremely frustating to me

I wouldn’t say that’s grinding due to what you said. It also helps that the gameplay in Doom is really fun and satisfying to boot.

No because you don't need to kill anything to level up or to finish the level (usually)

Are you retarded?

based

I beat it at level 19 on emulator.
I don't think it's that bad.
I had actually thought 20 was the max at the time.

I just drop games like that most of the time. A good example would be any game by Idea Factory.
Also JRPGs tend to have bad progression systems in general, you should be able to choose what you level up to some degree. That way a level up could mean a new skill or feat/perk, not just that you do 10 more damage per attack, that's boring.

I like it when there are ways to optimize grinding, thinking of the best strategy to beat as many monsters or the largest monsters in the shortest amount of time can be really fun sometimes.

name one game that does this

I like my grind as I like black people, not forced into my game.
If I just play and level up, but have the option to grind to make it easier but not mandatory, i love it, because its extra content instead of a timesink
