How do we revive the MMORPG genre?

>remove open world
>only have dungeons and hub cities
fixed

Remake Guild Wars without shitty invisible walls. And I mean original people from GW, not SJW shitfest from the sequel.

make cooking, alchemy, blacksmithing their own games inside of the mmorpg that are so complex, that you need hundreds of hours to master them so slapping monsters and doing dungeons isn't the only endgame there is

I wouldn't know, I've been essentially playing MMOs solo for the past decade, sometimes with randos to get group content done.

Stop making themepark focused MMOs.
A high quality non pay-to-win sandbox MMO would do well.
Let players drive the content instead of focusing on shitty endless rat race gear grinds and awful stories that don't work in MMOs.
Endgame dungeons and raids were never the main appeal of the genre for the majority of players.

There was a game called Puzzle Pirates that sort of did this. Most of the item crafting had to be done by players, but it wasn't quite a straight up "do the minigame for x amount of labor". The minigames were really difficult to get good at, and you'd have to do them at a shop owned by a player. The game would rate a player on their performance, and also give a bonus based on just raw time played (so that even if someone sucked they could still do good work by devoting enough time). They then could be employed at a certain number of shops, and their character would just automatically generate work for the shop in an amount based on their performance rating. It was a nice balance between requiring people to play the minigame to make stuff and not requiring them to poopsock it to minmax work generated.

Endgame dungeons and raids are literally what made wow successful and most players aim for

A high quality non pay-to-win sandbox MMO would either be axed by the owning company or flooded with shitty micro-transactions because there's not enough profit.

never understood why wow never added profession minigames like runescape had.

And look at who plays MMOs now; collectable-obsessed zoomers and stay at home moms.

But sandbox mmo died out or on life support, namely wakfu and Mabinogi.

ever played Ultima Online?
just make that completely 3D with 1st person and done.

>Stop making themepark focused MMOs.
as opposed to making boring sandboxes with no content or a MMO that's not a MMO ala MH?

honestly, the only thing that is needed is 0 p2w, preferebly no cashshop, subscription based game that is constantly updated with a dev team that actually play the game.

What happened to having multiple rune kinds? Did they decide that was too much for their playerbase of retards and streamlined everything into one?

>Gender options are: Genderfluid, trans (m/f), hermaphrodite
>"Male" options get +3 STR
>"Female" option get +5 INT
>There are no roles, skillcaps, you can build anything anywhere in any build with any class
>game has plenty of instagram locations where you can take selfies with other trannies
>Story is about defeating empowered male capitalists

By posting this exact thread every single day

>male
>+any thing

not playign you fucking bigot game

>female option gets +5 INT

Make one serious game like this for west, make a parody for East.

Yes. Every class has been simplified and homogenized to the point where the biggest difference between classes is just the color of your spells.

Mabinogi is a theme park mmo with a sandbox skin, I love the game but it was never a sandbox mmo. Never played wakfu. Eve and star wars galaxies are sandbox mmos.

Yep, UO is the only good MMORPG ever made.

Runescape with good graphics, better combat, 1000% less grinding.

Gas all classic/tbc niggers. Actually gas all blizzfags at this point, both old nostalgia retards and new players.

Or they could make a sandbox with plenty of content and tools in it so players can do interesting things.
Sandbox doesn't mean it has to be empty, it's means player freedom and control.
Modern MMOs have literally stripped almost all freedom or creativity out of the formula. Even stuff like interesting character build options are gone.
They're just shitty strictly regimented tracks you run down in a linear fashion where you listen to some story about how special and awesome your character is.
The same exactly story every other character around you also hears by the way.
Nothing about them leans into the strengths of a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER game.

What your prefect mmo? Mines has the combat of Tera/Vindictus story of FF14 or Mabinogi and the OST of LaTale or FF14.

>Mabinogi
>Theme park MMO
It can't be a theme park when everyone level/skill in shadow missions and Nowhere to Run and all the good armor are gacha.

No need to revive anything. Best MMO on the market is still alive and well to the point where the devs aren't even merging the servers.

>they could make the perfect MMO if they just pulled millions of dollars out of their ass and lost money every quarter

I know most of you are NEETs living off of welfare so it's probably impossible to explain how money works.

I'm kinda tempted to try EVE online since I can just afk if I'm mining or some shit apparently for a few minutes if I gotta do shit at work

Name one MMO that lost money every quarter

WoW is more of an ARPG now with instanced content and mountains of loot thrown on top of you. I tell you, it is more fun now than grinding out rep and tokens for weeks for ONE fucking belt that is just "okay"

Guild Wars as never an MMO, that's why it's actually a good game. I miss it too, user.

stop selling single-player game with coop dungeons as mmorpg. story is world-centric, not a milion of chosen ones.
stop segmenting playerbase with dlc dungeons/ expansions
stop dividing playerbase into haves and have-nots. no mtx, "premium sub", or any of that cancer.
less emphasis on gearing and gear threadmill, more on levelling and skilling and alike systems
open world non-consensual pvp. it's supposed to be an alternative world not a carebear trip to themepark.

The dozens that've been shut down.

Seems like a good way to keep them dead since most people would get filtered.

Gacha orbs were the worst thing added to the game. They just had to add outfits for NX and they would have way more people.

dont have catch up mechanics that make content useless.

come up with a setting that isnt scifi or medieval fantasy. also build a time machine when people didnt minmax and wiki everything

Guild Wars was fucking gay an just boiled down to a character fighting game where everyone was equal. There was no sense of progression or gear and you capped out at level 20 L M A O

Attached: 1583629642442.jpg (1200x1500, 124.12K)

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO SIMPLY MAKE RO WITH BETTER GRAPHICS?

>ff14 story
fucking yuck, that shits boring as fuck

I wish BDO didn't become a piece of shit. The combat is pretty good in mmo terms.

red orchestra?

how do you suppose we deal with someone wanting to level a different class? force them to spend hours upon hours on 20+ tiers that they've already done on a different character? sounds like a quick way to get burnt out. Fuck off

Sounds like you never got that far into it.

i think i pretty much figured it out. basically, you just need the world to be really fucking big, and everyone starts pretty split up geographically. by race, or faction, or whatever the flavor of the game requires. and then dangerous, so you need to group up with people to move from town to town, not to mention from town to dungeon. then you would need to group up with people near you. you can't just always find random strangers (friends?) on discord or whatever, because theres no telling where they would be.
after that, you can build the game more or less how you want.

>it gets good 80 hours in
die

We dont. Its dead. Move on.

Just adopt how FFXI/XIV/DQX does classes, have them all changeable on a single character and when you cap out on one class, swap to another with the catchup content. Give them shit all you want but that's the one thing Square MMOs definitely does right.

Pantheon will save MMOs. Look forward to a 2029 early access release date.

nothing will happen untill wow dies. hopefully soon

I enjoyed it from start until the long stupid 100 long quests and then started back enjoying it from heavensward and onwards.

>how do you suppose we deal with someone wanting to level a different class? force them to spend hours upon hours on 20+ tiers that they've already done on a different character?

The main problem with starting a different class is the gear grind. How do you solve the problem? Allow the player to use the gear he has accumulated by playing his main on a different character. Only the absolute top tier gear (i.e. luxury gear, not the gear required to raid effectively) should be bound to character, if any.

Wait for New World.

WoW is only "popular" because of how strong the Blizzard brand is. It's only a hype machine now for Blizzard and publication sites to flex their sub count with.

Make questing not the only way to progress in the game, and make it impossible to progress by playing solo, encourage social interactions between players

ESO does this and several other things right. I'm not sure why it isn't bigger than it is but the game is doing very well. I guess the start was really shitty but it pulled a XIV and turned everything around at some point.

the builds are gone because everything has to be competitive and hyperbalanced otherwise people shart their pants. There is no more room left for fun video games are srs bsness

vindictus died 7 years ago

Attached: 1386383584263.gif (287x191, 2.77M)

ESO got fixed when you could have any race be in any faction, but then it made everything before CP150 equalized so you would do about 30k dps and not feel any stronger when you get better equipment.

I want to play MMOs that filter people. Its the filthy casuals who care more about convenience than challenge in their games that watered down the MMO genre in the first place.

Once Coronavirus reminds normies that they're fucking retarded and all the stupid shit they spend time and money on is literally retarded they will start playing/wanting good online games again

ragnarok

It's a result of distancing the specs more and more from each other. Back when a class was a class and a spec only gave you a couple unique buttons and enhanced specific parts of your base kit, having all rune colors made sense because you were still using shit from the other specs. Now that each spec is basically its own class and most don't share any rotational abilities, there's no function to having multiple runes because you don't have any other spec's abilities to use. I don't care for the modern direction of making spec matter far more than class; just saying that the rune changes are a side-effect of it rather than them sitting down and saying "how can we make death knight even more dumbed down?"

The game was actually great at start. It literally became an autism simulator when they scaled all the zones and got rid of dangerous outdoor content. Gamers applauded them for kiddie-proofing their shitty fucking game because gamers are massive pussies
