Kingdom Hearts thread

currently replaying in the form of KH1.5 and 2.5
jesus fuck KH hasn't aged as well as I'd hoped, some of it is tedious as shit but i'll give it a pass due to the nostalgia and charm factor
Has KH 2 aged better at least? haven't played it since release basically

pic related to aging badly, what were they thinking with this boss fight?
still having fun overall though

KH1 aged poorly but 2 is fine.

Also I came here to remind you that those remasters are garbage.

There's a reason why gameplay wise 2FM is considered the best.
Wonderful replay value, fluid as fuck combat, and while the maps are simpler, this also means less labyrinth bullshit unlike KH1, they're all essentially battle areans.
All in all the game flows much better on a revisit.

Whats wrong with them?

It's been so long since I've played the originals I can't really tell whats even different

Anyone else no longer care about Kingdom Hearts? I'm not interested in the story anymore and they ran out of Disney properties that I enjoy.

And before you say gameplay, I never see the point in playing a game where I don't care about the characters.

>those remasters are garbage.
The only issue they have now is Data Marluxia has one single attack that can only be blocked twice instead of thrice like on the original 2FM. Everything else has been patched. If you're on PS3 you still have to deal with Drive/Summon times, but PS4 and Xbone don't.

>Whats wrong with them?
Nothing, just the usual Yas Forumstard cockroach being a contrarian snoflake.
They have some issues with animations being tied to the framerate creating bugs, but 90% of them have been fixed with patches after the KH speedrun community made a comprehensive list of all of them.
These days even the most autistic of KH speedrunners play these versions, specifically the PS4 ones, but of course autism on Yas Forums is above any reasonable limit so nothing is ever good enough.

Missing sound effects.

>hes trying to do it again
barry youre pathetic just give it up and move on with your life

Reminder that KH1 is way better looking than KH2 and you can't prove me wrong.

KH1 & 2
are the only 2 ARPGs in existence that aren't absolute garbage. shame no games have learnt from them.

This. Sound effects in KH1 are still fucked. They cut each other off and randomly don't play.

>are the only 2 ARPGs in existence that aren't absolute garbage.
Crosscode, KH3 post-patches, .hack, Seiken Densetsu and Ys are all at least decent, though.

I could actually. Why would you say this?

That is an incredibly garbage and childish opinion from someone that hasn't played even 10% of what's been on the market for decades.
But even by playing by your own rules, you're an idiot, because FF7R literally has members from KH2's dev team working on it, and uses elements of KH's aproach to AJRPGs integrated into it's combat system.
Did you try it out?
Or did you just watch gameplay footage like the little faggot that you are and assumed it plays like CC and XV?

KH1 feels aged on these remasters, but get this - the controls were updated for the remasters. It is so much worse on the original release. I never even finished it until I bought the 1.5+2.5 disc for PS4.

I wanted to replay BBS recently but I started and I couldn't get into it. Aqua's story + final episode are the only parts I find any excitement for. Not that her story is any better than the other two but she's the most fun to play as in BBS. I almost suspect BBS was designed originally only for her, since the controls fit her combat style so smoothly compared to the other two.

>KH3 post-patches
Don't kid yourself nigga, KH3 is hot garbage and always will be.
Agree with the rest tho.

>tedious
You're a fucking faggot. go play some gook mmo if you want tedium

KH3 base game still sucks and the only thing worth playing is the overpriced scam DLC Boss fights.
Crosscode seems really good I've yet to get further and see if ATK, DEF stats completely fuck up combat by making you do chip damage or killing enemies way too fast. it's so simple to just clamp damage values to avoid this shit and none of these idiot devs making ARPGs do it.

>sora doesn't get /ss/d by any disney princess
FUCK

>kairi doesn't get /ll/d by any disney princess
FUCK

>The only issue they have now is
Marluxia DM is not functioning as intended
Luxord revenge counter (cards) not functioning as intended
Duck Flare is still broken in the ENG version
Blizzaga's restrained revenge doesnt work
Sound effects are missing

The blizzaga issue in particular rubs me the wrong way because they nerfed what was already the worst spell

Don't need to play it to see the ridiculously telegraphed enemy attacks, no jump despite having aerial attacks, block being a held input that doesn't cost anything and has no timing elements, summons being limited to boss fights, auto-attack mode, emphasis on healing instead of avoiding damage, etc. Nomura literally sabotaged it by bending over for RPGfags. At least XV was action-y.

>Don't need to play
And there you go.
You're just being a contrarian faggot as usual.

>At least XV
XV-kun you're literally autistic.

I got filtered by RE: KH CoM

Attached: Vexen.png (1280x714, 432.7K)

I didn't get filtered so much as I couldn't choke down the tedium for more than an hour or so.

it's just a horrible game
i beat both campaigns on proud but the prospect of going back to it is inconceivable to me
this was after just beating KH1 which made the recycled bosses just a dagger in the wound

I beat the game on Proud years ago on emulator, when the collection came out on PS4 I couldn't get myself to play past the second set of worlds. I have no idea how I managed to do it the first time.

>Wonderful replay value
Not with how many cutscenes and Disney filler there is before you get to the endgame content

TWEWY, Bloodborne, Dragon’s Dogma, and Ys are pretty great.

All that shit (aside rare exceptions) is skippable in the PS4 version.
If you're on PS2 tho, RIP, i know your pain.

Except the Disney worlds in 2 are still good and enjoyable. Less involved in the overall plot than in 1, but the events still matter in the overall scheme of things and Sora does have character development. All of that is lost in 3.

Should've just played the original

everything skippable in ps4 tho
still yeah, that thing was a massive pain back in ps2

I couldn't choke down the original either.

You can skip KH2 cutscenes on PS2 as well. You can pause them and select "skip" which for PS2 days is way ahead of its time and is a godsend.

>Marluxia DM is not functioning as intended
and what's the intended way? Because the only thing I've ever heard bad about Marluxia is the blocking thing where you can only block two hits instead of three due to the framerate change which just means you dodge roll instead of block the third hit.
>Luxord revenge counter (cards) not functioning as intended
>Duck Flare is still broken in the ENG version
In what manner? I played both PS3 and PS4 and never had an issue with either of these. I literally spammed Duck Flare in PS3 because it worked great.
>Blizzaga's restrained revenge doesnt work
Fair enough.
>Sound effects are missing
Genuinely never noticed this in either game's playthrough and if that's enough to break your entire enjoyment of a playthrough then holy crap how bad will you deal with emulated 2FM?

So you're telling me you are better off playing OG1 and emulating FM2 with its weird floating text issues and certain data boss DMs requiring specific cheats to fix if you're at 60 FPS? From what I recall either Saix or Xigbar required one just to make it so the DM worked properly. Even looking at the GameFAQs post you seemed to pull this list from (gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/200737-kingdom-hearts-hd-i5-ii5-remix/75718469?page=2) post #26 specifically states the Luxord issue only matters if you're trying to loop him which you wouldn't do casually and the Blizzaga revenge value, again, only matters if you're a speedrunner who wouldn't use it anyway.

Just use Maleficent at the start of a fight and then Jafar after that. Always keep a sleight ready not for attacking but to break their sleights. I never use sleights outside of breaking and it's pretty simple to just make a deck of Keyblade cards, Curaga, an item card, and some 0s.

The Disney worlds aren't skippable except for Atlantica and Pride Lands
The first visits are fine but the 2nd time around feels like horrible filler and breaks the pacing of the story

I finished ReMind and a boss or two in the limit cut episode, then started a XV royal edition play through for the first time that I want to finish before taking on the other kh3 data fights so I actually understand who Yozora is supposed to be/who the incomplete Noctis is

Fuck off XV-Kun

Attached: 6D3EDBB8-D1BB-407C-80B9-4CD96382B894.jpg (1638x2048, 317.35K)

I disagree, I don't think it breaks the pacing all that much. It starts after a pretty huge event that leaves Sora with a sense of "well now what the fuck do I do?" and he aimlessly retraces his steps to figure it out. It's a time of confusion.
I might be remembering it better than it actually is though.

Well, that's it. 0/10, completely unplayable.

>what were they thinking with this boss fight?
Use Gravity, Blizzard, and smack the shit out of Iago when he shows up. EZPZ

XV has nothing to do with Yozora.

>Has KH 2 aged better at least? haven't played it since release basically

KH2 is top 50 game

Or just use the time stop / time raid sleight. Time stop is so fucking op in RE:CoM its balloonga tier

Marluxia's Wheel DM now pivots extremely fast, making it impossible to dodge it by running alongside it, need to Guard/jump now. Biz notes this in his patch notes. pastebin.com/p6PuyzQm

Luxord has two revenge counters, initiating the minigame or jumping while sending cards after Sora. In the PS4 version the cards tend to stay in place instead of homing in on you, presumanly a 60fps bug that went unnoticed.

In the PS3 and PS4 ENG versions the amount of rockets in Duckflare's finisher was increased, this makes both its damage and stunlocking ridiculously broken, trivializing a ton of main story fights. The PS4 JP version reverted it to how it was on PS2 but for whatever reason PS4 ENG kept the broken PS3 version.

I'm not the guy who claimed the port is garbage, I'm just informing you on what the issues are.

>which you wouldn't do casually
Whether you'd do it casually or not is irrelevant, it's still not functioning as intended. It also makes his revenge counter less threatening.

>Blizzaga
PS4 completely fucks over the spell's intended use for combo optimization. Fire normal hit is Base Sora's most Revenge efficient attack, while the Blizzard finisher beats boss counters (if they're hit by one, they have to suck up the rest, even if it goes over their Revenge), and you can follow the last Blizzard finisher with a normal Thunder. This makes Blizzard great for optimizing combos. Fire juggling->Blizzard finishers->Thunder is one of the best ways to damage bosses as Base Sora. It's how apulapul2000 optimizes his last combo here for optimal damage: youtube.com/watch?v=sW5KSBxei-c

>only matters if you're a speedrunner
It matters to anyone who wants to use their tools to their strengths. The PS4 port nerfed what was already the weakest spell, that's a colossal balance fuck up.

Is this well written character?

Attached: Sora_KHII.png (284x559, 142.95K)

>Crosscode seems really good I've yet to get further and see if ATK, DEF stats completely fuck up combat by making you do chip damage or killing enemies way too fast.
Crosscode's balance is pretty good since it's designed around you actually levelling, but the real determining factor in your damage is the element you're using and status effects you're applying.

lmao

Literally carrying the franchise on his back.
Without his goofy ass, the melodrama'd be unbearable halfway through CoM

Nope. Sora is terribly written. Wish I was in charge of his characterization. He wouldn't be an eternal idiot. I would also give him better taste in women. And no I don't mean any other shitty female in this awful series, I would invent a new female entirely that would put Nomura to shame.

>I'm just informing you on what the issues are.
That's fair enough and thank you for at least letting me know of some others.

While you're not the guy I was originally arguing with and I understand you didn't say to avoid them I would still argue a majority of these problems don't matter to the average person. Avoiding the PS4/Xbone versions for them doesn't make much sense because you're still going to have issues if you emulate it at 60 FPS to match 2.5 albeit less of them though it will require manual work to fix. I have personally never used Blizzaga in the way you explained it, I didn't even know RVs were a thing until LW on my PS3 runthrough. Now, does that mean it's not an issue? Absolutely not, but my argument is that it matters to a minority of a minority and for most people it's worth it to recommend the PS4/Xbone versions over any other.

I played 2fm like 3 summers ago or so after having played the original over 10 years ago and I had fun with it. Would say it held up but I found it much easier than I did on my first playthrough.

Sora's well written most of the time, the problem is that none of the other characters let him actually fucking do or know anything, but brainlets interpret this as Sora being stupid.
>GEE MICKEY WHERE'S RIKU, WE COULD PROBABLY TAKE CARE OF THIS ORG XIII SHIT EASY WITH HIM
>uuh i can't tell you
>GEE YEN SID WE NEED TO DEAL WITH XEHANORT IF HE'S COMING
>no retard, take this test that'll serve a secondary function of unfucking these sleeping worlds
>also i didn't actually make sure this would be safe but i'm going to blame you when xehanort fucks with it by tricking you into thinking you're going into the next worlds when you're actually getting sucked into a dream
>GEE GUYS WE SHOULD REALLY GO TO THE REALM OF DARKNESS AND UNFUCK AQUA BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE
>no fuck you, go dick around in disney worlds for the power of waking
>no we're not going to apologize for making you waste your time later when you find out you already had it
>FUCK YOU GUYS I'M GOING TO GO GET KAIRI
>WOOOOW SORA I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE SO RETARDED HOW COULD YOU DO SOMETHING SO STUPID

Attached: 1577460955207.gif (200x200, 16.22K)

to be fair the last one was absolutely stupid because it had heavy consequences

Attached: disconnect KH.jpg (1280x720, 54.47K)

There's really so much shit that nobody told anybody despite the fact that they absolutely should have.
>Mickey not telling anyone about TVA until ten fucking years of time had past
>Riku not telling Sora what he knew about the whole Castle Oblivion incident despite his memory never getting wiped

Behold my autism

KH 1 is still one of my favorite games and I genuinely have no problem with the combat. all these years later and it still looks very charming too.

That being said I think the only KH game ive never liked much is RE:chain but I still like Chain.

1 plays like a PS1 game that kind of had no solid footing yet, kind of reminds me of Threads of Fate or the Mana games in that regard. 2 has that more solid footing thanks to refining the combat, but the world design suffers for it and the dungeons just become linear hallways.

>PS4
>Autism
PS4 is the easy one though because you only have to do two playthroughs, not six.

Attached: When you walk away.png (1232x754, 310.8K)

>I would invent a new female entirely that would put Nomura to shame

No need. Just give him disney waifu is enough

Attached: gjzfsesg4o241.png (1606x1692, 2.76M)

Everything about KH2 that isn't the combat is bad.

just went for that about a week ago and the grind for leveling up riku and the enemy cards was the most boring thing i've done in my life

I'm a little confused about the Blizzaga issue if you don't mind helping me out, here.

So you're saying in the original release, Blizzaga finishers ignore Revenge Value and allow you to start a new combo without getting smacked back? In the rereleases, Blizzaga does not ignore the Revenge Value and still triggers it?
