Remake ruins the art style

Anything will look souless next to Urushihara Satoshi.
holy shit thats bad
>That artstyle
Isn't that the same dude who remade Yu-No?
Holy christ he needs to stop signing up to do remakes. It's doing him no favors also shoot me if you want but I like the left most blonde girl remakes version more than Satoshis
what about the chinese gacha mobage?
Some of these are okay or even better at places(like that second layer of red fabric on Egbert) but how did they fuck up some of simpler designs like Liana or Jessica I have no idea
>generic artsyle replaced by generic artstyle
lmao
It's not like anyone else would be better
I swear something about the stock 90's anime look still manages to look miles better than the current stock anime look and I can't really place my finger on why. It's not nostalgia for me at least, never really watched anime back then.
actually well done. they really should have gone with that art for the remake
yep. it's insane that he got hired again after this botch job
Why does the modern style have such flat shading? There's literally no visual depth to these characters.
498961679
No (you) for you.
Why is the nu-MC such a giant cockgobbler? That fucking hairstyle, damn.
Talent basically.
OLD GOOD NEW BAD
post some full body shots. I want to see all the outfits.
why don't you save the meme for when it'd be useful, like when the statement isn't true
Clear example of SOUL (OG)/ SOULLESS (remake)...
I didn't expect to ever be AS good but it didn't have to be THAT bad.
Damn that's some lodoss shit nigga
80s style best style
More contrast, not afraid of colors, more audacity in the design, more character, my dear Xavier friend.
More soul.
Langrisser: Sensible Pauldrons Edition.
Nah, Lodoss was someone else. But yeah, still a huge difference in quality overall.
Actually if you switch the places and pretend the remake designs were the original it will make the original designs look like cheap fanart.
>okay or even better at places
Absolutely not.
I know, but the style is pretty similar. It's similar with everything in the 80s desu. That pic is a fanart or promotional stuff
I've some some retarded ass backwards logic in my time, Son, but this gobbledygook you're spouting right here takes the cake. Did your mother sleep under power lines while snacking on lead chips?
Usually when people claim this they're pulling it out of their ass, but here it's actually so apparent. The redone characters look so much more generic compared to the originals, the redone characters could be from any anime video game ever
Jesus christ.
Why the fuck did they even bother with that bullshit?
I feel like there was just more sincerity involved. People were in awe of lush landscapes, heroic knights, dragons, elves etc. There was no eyebrow raising, no self aware irony. Just a tale of fantasy, love and adventure. And I miss that.
>old designs less sexualized despite urushihara literally being a porn artist
3d example.
Who had more soul? Satoshi or Oobari?
What do you mean?
You live in the era of the remake/redo/reboot for the sake of re-profit and fear of financial failure.
The original characters are just as generic. This could be literally any 90s anime. They all have the exact same pointy face and all the approved fluffy haircuts. Even the skin tones are the standard "pale virgin" and "tanned grizzled veteran".
It's just a matter of prefering one of the two artstyles. The only good point is the lack of shadows in the new one, everything is a flat shader.
colouring depicting form, techture and shadow are worse in the remake due to the use of gradients and blending where the original had distinct tones
How are the Japanese reacting to this shit anyways?
No, it only works if you're open-minded and not bound by primitive instincts like imprinting and nostalgia unlike you neanderthals.
Nobuteru Yuki, Saotshi Urushihara, Haruhiko Mikimoto...fuck, they need to do designs again for animation/games.
It might be generic for the time period, but man, this 90s generic still mops the floor with the newer generic.
I mean the shitty artstyle. And I'm not only talking about the drawings, they also ruined 1 by remaking it with the shitty big headed cutsie units they introduced in 2. That sucks fucking balls, how the fuck are you supposed to take anything that happens in the fucking game seriously?
user are you being a retard? or do you actually like the new style?
>generic
Despite what memes have made you beleive the average 90s character does not look like that
>Nuh uh, the old was just as bad.
That's quite patently and obviously false. More to the point,
>This could be literally any 90s anime.
I want you to really think about what this means. Like honestly put serious thought into it. What It means in the bar of quality has dropped. It has dropped hard. And now you're trying to sell us that this new bar of quality is acceptable? No sir.
>OVA screenshot
Every time
This hits harder than any art style change. There seems to be an obsession with deconstruction and commentary and, at the lowest level, cynicism disguised as irony, that makes me yearn for a more sincere story build on the timeless bases of myth. A proper fucking hero's journey.
The closest we get is stuff like Dragon Quest, but I find the gameplay in that tremendously tedious and atmosphere is more akin to fable than to an epic story of adventure.
I think the OP selectively listed the characters that look worse in the remake, there's a lot of characters missing from the image
I'm not selling anything, unlike you who are selling the old style as bold and brave. Yes old is better, but it was still uninspired shit
Lodoss was also an OVA and we're talking about VIDEO GAME art. There's no excuse for a VIDEO GAME to have art portraits this bad.
This series needs to be revived.
With the same artstyle.
They're experiencing their own generational backlash
>Ahhh~(=`ω´=) it is time now to experience the legend!
>Eeeh...I can't say I care for this. What even is this? It's so old.
>[Incoherent screaming] ━︵ \(°□°)/ ︵ ━
>There's no excuse for a VIDEO GAME to have art portraits this bad.
Literally anyone looks bad compared to Urushihara.
>Eeeh...I can't say I care for this. What even is this? It's so old.
Japanese audiences in a nutshell, sadly.
>wwww you are old
Speaking of anime, does the remake have remade cutscenes?
youtube.com
I can't say I was ever a fan or Dragon Quest or even Toriyama's designs in general, but there's got to be more work out there that isn't embarrassed of it's genre conventions (I refuse to use the word "trope") and wears them openly on it's sleeve. I thought Alliance Alive was great and we'll see how the Mana remake goes but it just seems like every game in certain speculative fiction genres is just, well, embarrassed of it.
Too fucking good.
There's a huge difference between some artist not being able to make their drawings look as good as a legendary artist and something that would look like fucking shit even if you had nothing to compare it to.
>Literally anyone looks bad compared to Urushihara.
Which, again, is fair, but just because we can't have Urushihara good doesn't mean we should settle for absolute crap. Even the crappy gatcha game was better than this shit. Fear of being compared to a master isn't an excuse to not try harder.
obari imho, except it's coomer soul and not regular soul
if you're familiar with his body of work the amount of references in Angel Blade will blow you away
Have you seen the rest of Nagi's art?
Even when he puts massive effort it's not the same
> 30 seconds
So hire someone else.
