Why is Hat in Time so much more fun than Mario Odyssey?

I barely used most of the badges in Hat, whereas you need to use the cappy power ups in Odyssey to progress, and they're all unique and fun
The combat in Hat sucks ass. Still a super fun game though. Especially the time trial train level. That soundtrack and level are amazing

The game have a lot of thoughts put into it, it's not perfect but it works its strengths really well.
My only complaint are the DLCs being really poor quality compared to the base game.
Seal the Deal is a repeated fetch quest on a map that it way more linear than it should be, and Death Wish really just bring out the floatiness of the controls.
Nyakuza is clearly missing an ending, and the multiplayer component is completely useless, even among friends there's no interaction or progress like in local co-op.

A hat in time was just unpolished enough for me to take notice of it constantly on release despite it mostly performing well. I also hated that mountain level.
Mario Odyssey was great on the first time through but everything feels like shallow busywork on subsequent playthroughs.
