When asking for a 7 remake did anyone actually think "it would be cool if they just made Midgar a full game"? It seems like SE is trying to go about this whole thing in a counter intuitive way

Midgar is a shittier version of Gotham.
Yes actually. You see so little of it the entire game and it's supposed to be like the biggest city in the game.
That's one viewpoint I've never heard before
Yea actually I thought it was a cool idea.
Nobody knows what they want anyway. If corps always did what customers "want", they will go bankrupt immediately.
>You see so little of it the entire game
You see as much of it as necessary. The game implies that there's not much to see. The entire place is meant to be a shit hole that you'd ideally choose to avoid living in
When it comes to a remake it's fulfilment of nostalgia. You're not going to tell me that SE decided to do this completely independent of fan requests are you?
Gee maybe a 500kb game from 1996 cant have a full scale 2020 remake without being 500 gb
The Witcher 3 is pretty fucking big and that was made by a team that was quite a bit smaller
Who asked them to make a full scale remake?
Sure, then according to you they should just port the original ff7 with no changes when its outdated as fuck, and charge 60 dollars. Surely people will be happy as fuck to pay again for a game with no changes and nothing new.
It's not even that. Who asked them to take a chunk of the game and balloon it into its own fully fledged game?
>then according to you they should just port the original ff7 with no changes when its outdated as fuck, and charge 60 dollars
There are updates and revisions that could be made to improve FF7. I actually think the new battle system seems pretty neat. It's the structure that's the problem here. They can get wild with it so long as they remake the full thing, and not just incrementally remake it and charge full price over and over
>There are updates and revisions that could be made to improve FF7
No matter how good you clean up an old car engine, it still old. And even if you update the OG ff7, its still the same experience.
Holy shit you already have the original if you want to play it again jesus, let other people enjoy the remake on its own. They are charging 60 dollars for full games and unless it ends up being otherwise, theres literally no cons to this episodic release. Specially when the original is still out there.
>theres literally no cons to this episodic release
What about the hoops they'll have to jump through when it comes to transferring progress? What about the technological advancements that will make the first part look dated when the final part is finally released for PS5 or PS6? What about the gnawing truth that will sit at the centre of the entire experience when you can't shake the feeling that you know you'll have to wait several more years to see the rest of FF7R?
Whether you like RE2 remake or not, Capcom showed how to modernise a classic. It wasn't bloated with superfluous crap to try and make it bigger, they just took the original, made some alterations where they felt it was appropriate and modernised the gameplay. Can you imagine how retarded it would've been if they said they were remaking RE2 in parts, and part one was just the Racoon City streets? It would've been laughable
>What about the hoops they'll have to jump through when it comes to transferring progress?
We still dont know how that works
>What about the technological advancements that will make the first part look dated when the final part is finally released for PS5 or PS6?
There will be literally almost no difference between ps4 and ps5 games due to technology already reaching its peak
>What about the gnawing truth that will sit at the centre of the entire experience when you can't shake the feeling that you know you'll have to wait several more years to see the rest of FF7R?
Everyone knows the story already and it wont leave you in a cliffhanger. Second, the game is gonna be a full game and not just a walking dead episode that ends in two hours, so take it as if you are playing the first game of a (maybe) trilogy that you know it will come. Like, you probably call impatient to those who want to buy the first part now yet you cant wait years for another part.
>Whether you like RE2 remake or not, Capcom showed how to modernise a classic.
Entirely different since re2 was pretty straightforward as a game and didnt create its own universe. It has one single story arc that isnt expandable at all and doesnt need worldbuilding. Re2 is not a RPG.
>When asking for a 7 remake did anyone actually think "it would be cool if they just made Midgar a full game"?
Yes.
People have been saying this for decades, and more reasonable people have been saying "just make it a touch longer" or "just expand the revisit" for ages.
>It's the structure that's the problem here.
This. It's too close to be a complimentary reimagining but too distant to be a replacement, and cut into pieces besides.
Fun gameplay, nice nostalgia trip, bad adaptation.
>We still dont know how that works
Which is a valid concern and a potential downside
>There will be literally almost no difference between ps4 and ps5 games due to technology reaching its peak
You're a fucking retard
FF7 is one of the few untouchable games where you can get away with selling 1/5th of the remake full price and people will still get hyped
They made Midgar a full game because they knew that if they made a 1:1 remake of only that part and sold it people would just wait for the other parts to drop
>People have been saying this for decades
I never saw or heard this once. Fleshing Midgar out more is one thing, but I never heard anyone say "it should be its own game"
You didn't read around enough. Shit, when I was a kid I thought it was a good idea too, but mostly because I had very little affection for the game.
they just want to milk their fans because they know they can. All that money they burned making that trash engine of their for the last 20 or so years, they want to recoup it all back now.
Everything you see about FF7R being split up is simply to please the STOCKHOLDERS
Split up = More profit. I would invest in Square Enix stocks when FF7R releases.
I thought Yas Forums realized that everything you see behind the scenes is profit involved besides maybe some people on the team who actually loved FF7 and want it to have soul but know they don't have full control.
People are ready and willing for just fucking that you mongoloid and I'm not just talking about ff7
You see like 3 plates out of like 16
You see like one set of houses in Wutai. Every nook and cranny isn't important.
Of course there are gonna be differences, but you are acting as if people will say WOOOOOW PS4 IS SO OUTDATED OH NOOOOOOO when in reality they are still gonna look good and playable
And the game lets you know that the entirety of Midgar is similarly shitty
>they are still gonna look good and playable
But the differences will be noticeable, which will be jarring when playing them all back-to-back years down the line
No, I sure as hell didn't
The minute they announced it was episodic I fully lost all interest in this
The demo was really fun too. I'd be all over this if not for the episodic nature. I can't wait for this to start falling apart during parts 2 or 3. People are gonna have it sink in that they have to keep paying $60 to play chunks of this 23 year old game.
Nice chunks yes, but games, with worlds way bigger in scope than FF7 exist. And yet here we are
I see you are a man of patrician female taste as well
>People are gonna have it sink in that they have to keep paying $60 to play chunks of this 23 year old game
I don't know if they will
Wutai is a Village. That one set of houses was 60% of the entire village. Or what was left of it.
>People are gonna have it sink in that they have to keep paying $60 to play chunks of this 23 year old game.
to play a series of full games of this 23 years old game updated to 2020*
>SE marketing buzzwords
Right now hype is high, but the game just says remake, the box doesn't say part 1, part 2 will come and surface level normies will be off put
Then part three will come and the "FF7 is the only FF I've played but I still love it" crowd will dip out and then any other parts by that point will be dead in the water
That's approaching $200 just for FF7. A game that's 20+ years old and can be played through fully in it's original form on multiple platforms, right now.
People are just going to grow tired.
mark my words
If this doesn't happen I'd expose myself on stream
That would be a pretty interesting outcome
>You see so little of it the entire game
Are you being retarded on purpose?
No. You got to a few plates and buildings and then later comeback to those same few plates and buildings. You essentially explore like 1/15th of the city.
hmmmm yes rusty industrial complexes and slums that’s what I want in my game
What else is there to show? The entire city is a dirty shit hole
>A game that's 20+ years old and can be played through fully in it's original form on multiple platforms
People pretending the original looks close at all to the remake in terms of "just play the original bro" are the pinnacle of shitposting
So is Chicago but it's different looking shitty shitholes around the city.
>3 entire lower sectors, two of which are entire towns
>running through above sectors for the missions and when you talk to aeris
>the inner workings with the train systems and ventilation
>2 separate reactors as dungeons
>a MASSIVE dungeon that is the shinra HQ
Thats already seeing about 1/4 of it bud.
Not 1/16th you fucking faggot ass revisionist halfwit.
From the exterior it seems logical to assume that the entire city looks similar
There is like 8 upper and lower sectors.
Seeing 3 of of 16 is not seeing 1/4th of the city.
>3 of 16
>ignores the upper sectors you see during the various missions
>ignores the largest sector of all Shinra HQ
Try again
>they just want to milk their fans because they know they can
And by releasing the game across multiple releases, with no specified number of instalments to boot, and an unknown timespan, you're essentially held to ransom if you want the whole game unless you're willing to wait however many years for the final part to release; and then however long after that they offer the full bundle.Even after that you'd probably wait for a decent price reduction. So it's either throw hundreds of dollars at it as it comes out piecemeal or hold off for probably at least 6+ years.
Let me ask you this. You went through a lot of varied shit in just those few sectors. Are you telling me the several sectors you didn't go to have absolutely nothing in them of interest?
That you don't want to explore those places.
A fucking lower sector had a resistance base, A Fuck huge Brothel, A Gym ran by buff Gay men.
You telling me every other sector has nothing and we've seen of what Midgar has to offer?
>hurr if i decleft and move goalposts i rite
I never once said the other sectors werent worth visiting you fucking kike.
>You see so little of it the entire game
>Are you being retarded on purpose?
Thats what was said.
You do infact see a large portion, you see 1/4 of the plates, the various inner workings like the train tunnels and ventilation, and finally the big fucking tower in the middle of it being the largest area in the entire game nearly.
Dont forget you revisit the outside of the HQ and more during the return.
Heres the thing, most of midgar is literally housing for all the industrial workers.
What goal post moving? My claim was always we should expand our time in midgar because we seen next to nothing of it.
Yes we saw a few of the slums, Shinra HQ and skimmed the top plates. But that was a drop in the bucket to what Midgar actually has to offer.
>1/4th
That's not even remotely the majority of the city.
>It's just houses
And?
It honestly depends just how "explorable" Midgar is. Are we talking like 2 sectors or Crisis Core tier? Because that would be fucking pathetic. It needs to be every fucking sector and not separated by shitty loading screens.
capeshit zoomers, everyone
>>It's just houses
>And?
And it doesn't make for areas worth exploring....
>Ignoring the point
Can't wait to explore a bunch of slums because ???
I think most fans of the original just wanted the remake to be original game with updated character models, graphics, and a better translated script.
The thing is, Square is kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place, if they want to remake FF7.
Because the game is SO huge and every environment is so detailed, that to faithfully remake the entire game in such a way as to please fans, *and* do it underbudget, would be difficult if not impossible. This was specifically the concern raised when they were asked about FF7 remakes at any point over the last decade and a half.
Releasing the game in part allows them to have their cake and eat it too; they get to be as slavishly devoted to the source material as they want to be, *and* they get to release a product to consumers in a (relatively) timely manner.
Depending on exactly how many parts they plan on releasing, I think they made the right call.
>you see 1/4 of the plates
More actually.
You see 5, 6, and 7 underneath and 8 above.
Thats liiterally 1/4th of the sectors user.
Not even counting the other parts.
You do realize that a sector is only a town right? Its only a metropolis when all put together.
Either way the point remains, you literally see a quarter of the plates.
You also see carious sewers, ventilation, and train tunnels that are the cities inner workings.
On top of that you finally see Sector 0, the largest area of the city and spend a long ass time there.
So you see over 1/4 of the city in actuality user.
Was meant for
a over a quarter is FAR MORE than "next to nothing"
Elso Esthar makes midgar look like piddly shit in scale
Imagine you work at square. Years ago you did a project, did a good job, and moved on. Except for the fans of course, who screamed for a remake for years. Now instead of working on your dream game you have to remake some shit you did 20 years ago.
If I was working on FFVIIR I'd just do whatever the fuck I felt like too.
Nobody who works at Square today was there when the original released.
FF7R IS the dream game for most of the staff these days
But the devs are already happy as fuck working on FFVIIR, literally everyone has said it
>b-b-but they are lying cuz...
100% Nomura resents it and made it Midgar-only to get as close to possible to a game set in Versus XIII's Insomnia without drawing the ire of the higher ups. I'm sure he's real fucking glad to be remaking somebody else's game that he was just the artist on when his OG project was plucked away from him.
>Except for the fans of course, who screamed for a remake for years
How I know you're underage, SE brought this on themselves.
