In Patch 2.3 the hunter dead zone was effectively removed. Then hunters were reworked in Cata to be able to shoot in melee range.

I don't think that's true. People are pissed at the GCD issue atm. The game felt faster, had more spells, and now it doesn't.
No some spells were taken from specs/classes and put into the new talents, same thing as pruning to me.
Also Resilience was changed in MoP, it wasn't the same old resilience. As well as the addition of PvP power being introduced.
You're right about the hunter thing but I remember dueling hunters and they were fucked close range back in Cata. I think they could just scatter shot in deadzone. I really thought it changed in MoP it's been so long. Maybe getting fucked by Stampede was my problem with MoP hunters.
