Were you impressed by FF VII demo?

I've been grading papers as a TA in uni, no time to check it out. What is your impression of the FF VII Remake demo? Did it impress you? Does it have potential? Why or why not?

I don't give a fucking shit

Yes I loved it, impressed on basically all fronts, full game should be excellent unless something goes horribly wrong.

it's fine, and it has potential to win over fans of old and new. However, I particularly was unenthused by it. It has a disjointed control scheme and and gameplay suffers because of it. It's in line with God of War (2018), which I think is a much better concept of an idea. So FFVII is a pass for me.

I'm sold on the game since E3, I didn't want to spoil the intro by playing the demo. Just gonna wait.

Does it ever actually try to rip gameplay elements off od God of War?

No.

It has promise once you get a full party, but really it's just FF13 but instead of swapping roles you're just mashing square.

Here's hoping they also don't go the route of "HURR EACH PERSON DOES THIS BETTER" battles just end up being you using the party member with the right spell (since no materia sysem) or skill for the moment.

yes and no. I wouldn't be surprised if Square found a way to supplement the gameplay style from God of War and add the latent mixture of XV to come up with something 'new'. It screams God of War to me, it just does.

I've played it three times and it's been fun every time.

Loved every second of it. Can't wait to play with Tifa.

>interesting combat with lots of potential
>”exploration” is just pressing forward, breaking boxes, and opening chests
It’s like having a milkshake with cream, bananas, chocolate, and dogshit

Combat is a refined version of what they tried to convey with FFXVs, maybe is more about the overall package than an actual merit but it does feel like the logical step forward from ATB. Lock wasnt that intuitive though. In the end I had fun being as efficient as possible instead of spamming square, and changing between characters for magic and ability combos felt comfy. Graphics and music are good, VA is ok, Story has minor differences compared to original. The demo is completely linear, so I still want to see how the final game does before buying it, but I had a good time with it.

Do you not remember how linear FF7 was in Midgar?

They will add shit. The question is if they managed to add things that actually expand the game in a good way or it will be a couple of shitty side quests and a lot of cutscenes "cause 60 hours game"

Not really, it was exactly as i expected it to be

Didn't enjoy it because I didn't get to play the best girl Tifa

Impressed? No. Because I'd seen the character models, graphics, and general action-style gameplay before.
I was however glad that it controlled smoothly and that starting mission had enough attention to detail to give me faith that the game will not be a cash grab.
For me it will all hinge on the actual RPG content of the game and the RPG progression elements, however, and you can't judge these from the bombing mission.

Yes in that you run around and hit things with your weapons.
No in that there are no QTEs, grapple based combat, or messy/gorey kills.

I do hope they expand on Midgar but I doubt it. PSX version down below there was only slum town, Wallmarket, and Aerith house. Then you go to Shin-Ra Tower and that's all you really see of Midgar. So hopefully you see something more but I don't really think they will considering how expensive it is to make anything nowadays.

Very meh. I'm going to wait on leaked footage before I even consider buying it. It did look pretty at least but it was a big ol bag of nothing followed by a boss who's cutscenes lasted longer than the fight itself

>but it does feel like the logical step forward from ATB
X-2 and WoFF were refinements of ATB
ATB in 7R ain't ATB at all. It's a resource that you build up and spend

not really. all it made me think was "for fuck's sake, they've spent so much time, money, and effort making this and it's not even as fun as the original"

>since no materia sysem
ff7r has materia

They absolutely fucking ruined the build-up to sephiroth. The intro to sephiroth in the original was PERFECT. In the remake, they fucking shove one wing angel down your throat from the start and introduce him to the plot way too hard and fast. This was the worst decision ever.

Makes me excited for other possible remakes tho.

only thing i dont like are most of the character portrayals but i guess that was inevitable with voice acting

Yes, I'm still playing it now. I love having shortcuts and the command menu to work with simultaneously.

yes wrecking the scorpion is fun

only thing that didn't impress me was the ally AI, but it didn't become an issue when I started constantly switching between characters as is inented
the demo alone is miles better than FFXV

This person apparently hasn't played the game. There is a materia system, you can even see them slotted in the weapons you carry around. Not only that, but "mashing square" isn't effective against the boss and certain enemies are more effectively killed with other methods.

The banter between Cloud and Barret is great and I really want to hear everything the whole game has to offer. The only disappointing thing is the banter is based upon the actions I take. For example there's different banter if you save Barret when the scorpion boss grabs him and you get him released vs let him ride it out. I'll only be able to hear part of the game in a playthrough.

The attention to detail is amazing, they did more than glance at the original.

The combat system is a great melding of real-time action and turn-based decisions. You're able to dodge, block, and attack in real-time, and attacking builds up your commands faster, but your main damage (and only healing?) will come in the form of your commands. Your actions can be interrupted, so I foresee a thoroughly challenging combat system come April 10th.

Summons actually fight along side of you as a guest, and can do their special attack at full meter.

My only complaint is that the control scheme doesn't feel natural. I do believe it will with time.

It's fun enough, but being a demo of the tutorial opener of the game, it's no indicator at all of how expanded Midgar has to be to fit an entire game, or of the character progression systems. It's like trying to grade Final Fantasy XIII off of the first hour.

7r is trash while xv is good

7R has no jump
XV has jump

7R has no directional inputs
XV has directional inputs

Cloud has 5 hit attack string and 1 weapon type total
noct has 5 hit attack string on just 1 weapon type out of 15, some with more and even up to 10 hits
Each weapon type has a unique action which is over 15 unique weapon actions for noct alone
cloud only gets 6 different greatsword with 1 unique action each but the same attack string on each

XV has character switch and weapon switching, 7R only has character switch

XV has dodge roll with iframes
7R dodge roll has no iframes making it useless
XV has manual shield block with block stuns from perfect timing
7R is just hold to block with no cost

In the 15+ weapon types in XV, there's over 6 weapons in the broadsword, lance, dagger, gun, machine, greatsword, shield categories each with their own unique paasive abilitied and many with active action abilities, like laser beam on one machine or graviga on another machine

Character switch in XV is more varied too
TPS manual aim SMG and bazooka on Prompto with respawnable grenades and lots of agile movement
Magic and buff elemental focussed combat of Ignis with his different elemental daggers for different enemy types, dragoon jump, party buffs
Full features ground and aerial combat based on weapon switching, warps and warpstrikes, aerial combat, timing based dodges and blocks, counters, directional inputs, 15+ weapons, techrolls, manual finishers, holy counter, armiger, with extremely high mobility

Compared to Cloud who literally has less to him than Gladio combat, Barret who only autoshoots, tifa who uses a worse version of Eight from Type-0 combat and Aerith who does less damage than any magic or buff in XV, all with no jumping, no directional inputs and manual finishers, no weapon switching etc

Even big summons in 7R are RNG and only usable against bosses, while in XV can be used in any fight if you meet certain conditions

based as hell

this

>spoil
nigger its a remake

shit, shit fuck shit god damn this game will suck.

XV has a playable cast that only appeals to fujos, 7 has party members for everyone

Hi Barry.

the 7R dialog feels so forced and like it wants to copy the dynamic banter the XV bros have
also it fails even more so because there is literally no actual physical character interaction between the characters outside of scripted cutscenes

full 7r stuff was leaked
same as all abilities, materia weapons etc
7R has less unique weapons than XV, less materia than xv has accessories, less weapon abilities, less everything

the combat is meh

dodge sucks because its slow ans has no iframes
also no aerisl dodge
block is just hold to block with no cost and auto counter which is shit
cloud has no directional inputs ehich means attacking sucks
cloud has the same 5 hit attack string on operator no matter what
cloud has the same 5 hit attack string on operator no matter what
using D-inputs on broadsword in XV fir example has forward +O be a lunge stab, left/right + O be sidespin attacks to that direction around the targeted enemy
back +O is a backflips with iframes that strings into airsteps for aerial combos
tapping O does manual finisher with high crit percentage right from an opener
etc
cloud has none of that

summons in 7R are RNG and literally only fucking usable against bosses, while in XV can be used in any fight if you meet certain conditions

stop shilling 7r while lying and bullshitting nonstop you assblasted fuck

To be fair, not to that user he's a dummy because the intro is the goddamn intro, but they are introducing new plot elements and changes, so it's not like oldbies are going to know every beat too.

>xv is good
Said no one ever

it's a braindead version of the trials of mana remake funnily enough. just more budget.

Why does Barry feel the need to make every thought a new paragraph?
Or do
you
really
talk
in this
halting
fashion
?

it's to gain attention to his posts so people ignore them less and he has more of an excuse to shit up threads

Its not fun. Just mash square into a triangle for more squares till atb is full.
Flashy as hell in both a literal (sparks fucking everywhere when you cut) and productuon value.
Cancelled my preorder right after. Sure its only the tutorial and can get better later on but im not holding my breath for this boring gameplay till they release the whole thing.

This entire series is just COD but is an rpg. The game for the last 5+ entries in the series has consistently felt the same in game mechanics and gameplay. And to top it all off, the "storylines" have always been shit. Your just like that one fucking fatass silver spooned kid who has to buy a new phone every year because his current phone is "outdated".

Attached: 1580781392292.jpg (300x300, 14.05K)

>The game for the last 5+ entries in the series has consistently felt the same in game mechanics and gameplay.
>implying 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 or 7R play similarly at all
>when there's massive release gaps between titles because of Square-Enix's sheer incompetence
You can call modern Final Fantasy shit, but a CoD comparison isn't apt here.

Attached: ippo.jpg (190x324, 51.13K)

What weird/fun thing you are hoping they keep in the Remake? FF7 is crazy in lots of crazy things happening whether or not they made sense doing so. Like here will the remake try to have Red XIII in a Solider uniform and try to stand on 2 legs? I mean there's literally a song based soley on that idea.

Attached: file.png (1277x993, 2.31M)

yes

fighting this guy gets more fun each time I boot it up

Oh right and I forgot: the dlcs are always handled EVEN WORSE than Payday 2s dlcs are handled. I'm not sure how that is even possible but there you have it. Just a souless cash cow. At least Payday 2 is innovative for the hiest genre, final fantasy is just a barebones rpg that never innovates.

>since no materia sysem
You do know this game has that right?

I'm sure they will

Attached: 1579319313490.webm (640x360, 1.38M)

imagine being this fucking retarded

>final fantasy is just a barebones rpg that never innovates.
That's Dragon Quest down the hall, where the Japanese refuse to ever let it change in the mainline installments because of tradition. They actually were gonna make the 9th game, a DS title, be a co-op action RPG, but Japan bitched so much that they forcibly turned it into a traditional turn-based design that just happens to have co-op.

>muh gaps
Doesnt mean shit.

Nigga it's the tutorial of course it's going to be linear

Feel they would or at least wink at it. Replaying FF7 right now after almost 20 years since I've touched it I forgot just how stitched together and weird the game gets. Like you leave Midgar go to town to do the flashback than have to cross Zolom than there's a whole RTS minigame you can do right after that. No real rhyme or reason for it to exist just that it happens and you can do it multiple times over the course of the game.

Thats cool. I'm still waiting for the six millionth installment in the series they promised. Hopefully, they still stay true to the series by that time.

tiddies

Attached: 1583168969582.webm (1280x720, 2.51M)

LMAO what fucking gaps? They make a new game practically every fucking year and like the retards you all are you keep buying the slop square enix keeps endlessly producing. $60 for about 8 hours of gameplay every time.

>They make a new game practically every fucking year
>5 mainline games in 20 years is one game every year
wat...

... but you're the one shilling and lying.
This isn't an action game, dodge shouldn't have iFrames, you aren't meant to dodgeroll your way through encounters. You have to learn to take your lumps strategically. I know you have trouble understanding that, given you want to be able to summon Ramuh on peons to autowin a combat.

All the things you're comparing are apples and oranges and the fact that your pea-brain doesn't understand this means I'm likely better off talking to a brick. Materia vs accessories? Most of your accessories in 15 are tiny upgrades. 50 HP, 100 HP, 200 HP. Gee, I wonder which one I should equip. Meanwhile I might have to decide on a stronger weapon for cloud that only has 1 double materia slot and 2 singles vs a weaker weapon that has 2 double slots and 3 singles.

15's combat was about impossible to lose, you could spam potions non-stop. I recall running into some grave-site with multiple enemies 20+ levels above me that oneshot every party member, but I still won because I had 99 of all healing items.

At the end of the day, we know what the game of the year is gonna be and when they do they'll have beaten Cyberpunk 2077 and others. Meanwhile everyone looks back on 15 and feels shame.

Attached: 1294618641084.jpg (1920x1200, 364.2K)

>muh main storyline thooo
Really doesnt fucking matter. The series consistently has been getting a release year after year. Fuck off with your cash cow already

What year after year? You can call Final Fantasy trash all you want and I won't disagree. But saying it's on a yearly cycle is just wrong and dumb.
