Nope, I went from green to orange fighting only yellow/orange squares. I'm assuming the game is coded so now you actually earn points if the opponent's colour is => yours instead of only when they're the same. I wonder if you can lose colours facing anyone below your rank now, too.
I wonder if there's no lower limit for blue like there's no upper limit for purple, as in if you lose 100 games at the lowest rank are you gonna have to win 100+ to go up a colour?

I'm going to be pissed if any of the tourneys I'm going to this year are canceled.

Mortality rate is low but for anyone with a compromised immune system (old people, diabetics, etc) it gets a lot more dangerous. I know that shit won't kill me, but it will kill or hospitalize the people I live with and I aint fuckin with that chance.

I do sometimes since it's pretty easy to land once you get the hang of delaying the j.623a enough. However the oki ender doesn't really seem to land on either side without doing a wallbounce and I'm not sure if that's what they intend for the combo.

What do I invest in early game? I've been told I should just put points into heart and whatever stat that comes with a weapon choice

yeah your early points should be for stuff like health, ki, ki recovery and relevant weapon stats. you might also want at least two points in ninjutsu so you can backstab.
