How, when, and where did Cloud learn the sword techniques of SOLDIER? A Rifleman is not taught that stuff, and he only observed Zack (probably Operator Mode in FFVIIR) and Sephiroth (probably Punisher Mode in FFVIIR) for like one mission, maybe two in case of Zack. Yet somehow he was able to use it in battle, as well as optimize his equipment from generic SOLDIER set-up to his individualized version of added metal bars for the Buster Sword and removing 1 shoulder plate and adding 3 screws to the other to catch melee attacks with them or whatever reason he had to add them.
How, when, and where did this supposed "weakling" actually get so competent? Was he actually a battle autist all along that had just been limited by his own confidence issues and Shinra regulations? I really hope the remake eventually sheds some light on the time between the cliff scene and the first bombing mission. Actually, part 1 could already reveal what happened right before the start of the mission at least, without any big spoilers, like Cloud's and Barret's actual first meeting and such.
FFVII (Spoilers) / FFVIIR
The remake isn't lore friendly. In the original game he just slashed once and had limit breaks which you learned during the adventure. Same with moves like double cut.
Nu-FF is all anime bullshit.
I was 13 when the game came out and I finished it, but what I took away wa as that Cloud wasn't the person he thought he was, but he discovered that his true self was still really awesome. I thought that was one of the main points of the game.
same
Just swing really hard lol
>How, when, and where did Cloud learn the sword techniques of SOLDIER?
By hanging out around them and working to become like them? The costume design is just Japanese character design, it doesn't necessarily makes sense.
I remember a mobile game that stated that cloud had natural talent with swords, dont know if it's canon tough.
Jessie in the Demo after Cloud runs into lasers multiple times like a retard:
>"Were you really in SOLDIER?",
then after a few more times:
>"Do you have a fetish?"
Thanks for making me feel like shit. FF7 used to be cool now it's incel bait.
Seeing them fight first-hand is probably more than enough to explain his proficiency, since he's only able to emulate what he knew of their fighting style due to the strength of Jenova cells/Mako conditioning in the first place, and probably just developed the rest as he was going along. Deep lore is because he and Zack both got a fresh batch of Jenova cells in Nibelhiem, Jenova actually filled in some Soldier training when it created the rest of Cloud's Soldier persona.
This is a phenomenon unique to the Remake. In the original 7, Cloud only really knew how to swing the sword and maybe swing it a bit harder when pissed off. He learned how to use the sword as you play the game.
In RM though, he seems to be some kind of DBZ ninja but the Remake is loaded with continuity issues and things generally not making sense.
Whatever about the fighting style, the uniform bit is what I've always been curious about
Just turn your brain off bro.
You mean people wouldn't realize after a few minutes that he's just a retard with a strong body?
In the span of the freetime of 1-2 missions? I sure would like to be able to learn things that quickly myself...
Well yea, currently the only reasonable explanation is that Cloud was a genius all along that was hampered by his psyche and the fact that Shinra pushed a rifle into his hands instead of a sword.
I mean, he threw Sephiroth away with his own blade impaled in him all by himself so that it was always implied that he had a weak mind
>Tifa supplexes Diamond weapon a few weeks/months after the start of the game
inb4 "It's just fancy gameplay bro! It doesn't count!"
Headcanon: his memories were genuinely mixed with Zack's after the Nibelheim incident.
Do you guys like the new combat system, or do you still wish it was turn-based.
what metal bars are talking about for the buster sword? do you mean the non-ornate crossguard?
Yea, I guess if we just ignore the compilation then it's nothing, but if we DO take it into account, then this crossguard had been plated over.
New system is way better. There's tons of room for optimization as evidenced by the faster and faster speedkills that came out in the week following the demo. The original was relatively boring and had no depth for the entirety of Midgar and well beyond.
Yeah. I knew Yas Forums was gonna be mad regardless, and I honestly wanted to hate it too, but after actually playing it it's really fucking fun.
I took all of that as the result of Hojo's fuckery, and his memories getting scrambled with Zack's.
Not sure what your point is.
Its a video game
>How, when, and where did Cloud learn the sword techniques of SOLDIER?
Remember, he's a Soldier washout only because his body couldn't handle the MAKO treatment. He went through the entire program and eventually was forced through the MAKO treatment turning him into the real McCoy minus actually having served as an officer.
>How, when, and where did Cloud learn the sword techniques of SOLDIER?
He didn't, simple as this.
He might have watched Zak/Sephiroth/random SOLDIER during missions or training at base, but that's it. Not much more learning than watching a Bruce Lee movie and trying to do the same shit in your room.
The only reason he is able to wipe the floor with most people is because Hojo made him a literal monster, injecting him with every dopping shit he had around in his lab to see what would happen if used all at once on a basic grunt instead of the long and careful process to make new SOLDIER.
He actually learn new sword moves as you level up, so clearly at the start of the game he has no actual idea of wtf he is doing with that sword and is just half winging it, half trying to duplicate what his heroes were doing - like some weeb trying to win a marathon by Naruto-running.
No i wish it was more like KH though.
that ff always had absurd power levels
Cloud was always a gifted fighter. He was just a weak minded bitch, but when he took on Zack's persona, the fighting was all Cloud but sincerely believing he was a combat veteran while not even ever being in SOLDIER. And that's why originally, Cloud was always a badass. Like how in MGSV a random combat medic became as skilled as Big Boss through hypnosis and mind tricks, same thing here. Cloud could hang with Sephiroth BEFORE being infused with jenova shit, before being mind broke, through pure rage.
Cloud is the purest form of a talented autist.
>old ff isn't anime
>how does this guy who was turned into a fucking magic super soldier monster by a genius mad scientist fuck people up with a sword in a world where a teenage girl can suplex an ancient 200 ton bio mech hurr
Your a special kind of retard aren't you?
Serious answer, he has part of Zacks memory so it wouldn't be a stretch to say he gained part of his combat skills in the process.
Hes a sepherioth clone of course he has his sword abilities
The OG had it's own "DBZ ninja stuff", it was just better hidden due to technical limitations of the PS1 graphics and the combat being sequential.
Did he? Is that explained in Crisis Core or somewhere else? Seems weird that they actually took him in for that program, but then didn't even give him any better position than a random gun-wielding infantrist regardless of him being unable to be a SOLDIER.
You'd believe his claims of being a SOLDIER 1st class would have been immdietly exposed if that were the case...
He isn't really. That's just a red herring thrown at you by Hojo and Sephiroth for the sake of the twist
Does he actually have Zack's memories? I thought that's just a fantheory? Is there actually any proof that he actually has those memories?
Jenova's primary power is literally mimicry. The Jenova cells in Cloud made him instantly able to mimic the SOLDIERs he had seen, just like they gave him part of Zack's personality and memories.
You’re assuming any of that stuff is particularly difficult even for SOLDIERs
I imagine Roche is going to be the rival character who slaps Cloud’s ass and shows him how it’s done
He doesn't have Zack's actual memories, he just thinks he was the one who did everything he saw Zack do. And thanks to Jenova cells, the imitation is near perfect and includes his fighting abilities.
this doesn't he literally have some of zacks military memories mixed with his own.
At the end of the game. What does that have to do with what OP asked or the answer he was given?
>Is that explained in Crisis Core or somewhere else?
No, it's in the original game. When Cloud finally remembers what happened to him. He washed out of the Program because his body couldn't stand the Mako treatments. Later after getting captured with Zach he was both exposed to MAKO and given Jenova cells. Resulting in the superhuman abilities. The sword work and material knowledge comes from him training for the elite program. One of the reasons he goes comatose and Tifa has to look after him is because what they did to him catches up again after the Life Stream bath.
>material
martial
Also, adding to that. His initial memory identity problems are because of Mako poisoning. In short Cloud is suffering horrendous Mako poisoning throughout the game until it naturally drains out of his body. It's the reason his memory starts recover and why his attacks become less and less serious.
At the start of the game he was just flailing the sword around while Barrett wondered what the fuck he was doing.
This is completely wrong.
Cloud passed the physical exams for SOLDIER, it was the mental exam he failed, he was deemed mentally unfit for the Mako treatment.
It also was not Mako poisoning that caused Cloud's identity confusion, it was the Jenova cells in his body using their ability to mimic others making him believe Zack's actions were his own. All Mako poisoning does is make you catatonic - Cloud being unresponsive while Zack was taking him to Midgar, that was Mako poisoning. Once Cloud regained consciousness, everything after that was Jenova's doing.
Cloud's some sort of schizo-adjacent crazy pants, and he's been given the muscle memory and physical abilities to back up his delusions passably enough that no one would guess he isn't who he says he is.
To be fair, there isn't really that much SKILL to his combat style. He is super strong and incredibly fast, all he really needs to do is keep the sword swinging and avoid hitting the walls, ceiling and floors. The weight of the sword and his natural strength do the rest. Even basic sword training would be enough to be incredibly deadly with what he is swinging around, and basic martial sword training can be taught in a few hours.
The Mako/Jenovah cell bath gave Cloud his strength after he lost the 26th chromosome it also gifted him as well.
Well we are seeing Cloud after he was infused with Jenova cells so clearly there was a power jump there. Combine that with the fact we know he always wanted to be soldier so he probably did train with swords he just didnt have the strength to stick with it. Cloud was always his own worst enemy. But the potential was always there as shown when he threw sephiroth from the mako reactor.
>I imagine Roche is going to be the rival character who slaps Cloud’s ass and shows him how it’s done
That's impossible because it would expose that Cloud is larping right then and there. A 1st Class losing 1on1 against a 3rd Class would be far too on the face, so obviously Cloud would have to win any such battles.
The dialogue in that one trailer makes me believe that he wanted to settle the score, like Cloud punked him in their first encounter, and he wanted to score some payback.
>basic sword training
He has two seperate stances, one that looks like Zack's/regular SOLDIER stance, the other looks like Sephiroth's. That does not at all look like some "basic sword technique" to me. And if it did, he'd be exposed immdietly for being a fraud with merely a strong body.
I mean, you will win. Roche isn't going to be a scripted loss. He'll probably just have a ton of lines that sound like banter but are actually clues that Cloud's a phony.
first time was probably during motorcycle ride, and the second one would be an actual 1on1 battle.
That's not what's happening in the remake though. His Jenova dementia is causing him to mimic what he's seen Zack and Sephiroth do, in the Operator and Punisher stances respectively.
Neither are even half as unga bunga BERSERKER as Cloud is shut the fuck up with this meme. Sephiroth's swordsmanship is elegant and Zack's is as generic as it gets.
Jenova cells you fucking sperg, Hojo tried turning Cloud into one of his Sephiroth clones but considered him a failure
Play the original
"Guys, how does Cloud effectively copy the fighting styles of SOLDIERs he saw in action after being infused with the powers of a mimicry alien?"
>Sephiroth
>elegant
>inb4 that was Jenova
>swordsmanship
Cloud is as strong as a 1st class anyway.
Not necessarily.
Cloud will probably win but it'll be one of the harder battles in the game, maybe with some cutscene where Roche shows of his superior swordsmanship against Cloud's retard strength
Elegant.
Jesus he looks so cool
The fact that they're including an entire new, persistent character makes me feel like he was something they left on the pre-production cutting room
well, it would ultimately depend on the Player's skill, no? At least in the Scorpion Battle the dialogue can actually consider whether or not you play like a pro that ends the battle in 2-3 minutes on normal without needing any items, or like a retard that needs 15+ minutes and results in an empty inventory.
He is basically just whipping the buster sword around as fast as he can, it looks flashy but very little complexity is there. It's hard to win against a 200lb slab of sharp metal hitting you like a weed eater.
He can also magically defy gravity.
Oh, that would be kind of cool, like a battle where the story keeps progressing regardless of whether you win or lose?
I'd be totally down for that, yeah. Roche could almost be a mentor to Cloud, given that Roche is ACTUALLY a rogue SOLDIER, at least according to his bio. Wonder why he's rogue tho
