Should I get 1 & 2? Also, Yakuza thread

I'm really enjoying Yakuza 0 this far and I'm really tempted to get this bungle before the steam sale ends.

The kiwami games aren't exactly great.
Just emulate the original PS2 versions.

kiwami 1 and 2 are both great, people shit on kiwami 1 because its basically a yakuza 1 themed expansion pack to 0 but its better than the ps2 version, which you'd probably only appreciate if you grew up with it

If you enjoyed it, sure. Kiwami 1 feels more like a standalone expansion to Y0 though, since it's literally Yakuza 1 story with Yakuza 0 gameplay and assets.

Kiwami 1 has its issues, especially the Essence of Kiwami gimmick, but if you like 0 it's basically more 0 with a less interesting plot near-copypasted from the original PS2 game. If you're getting the PC versions, remember to get the original music modded into the game, both licensed and just plain original tracks altogether.

Kiwami 1 is essentially lazily recycled 0 with stupid changes for the sake of change. Kiwami 2 is a recycled 6 so if you've not played 6 it will probably be alright to you.

>with a less interesting plot
Tbh the plots in these games aren't that interesting to begin with. They might start off alright but they always start fucking up the longer the game goes on.

You can skip Kiwami, it's good but Kiwami 2 and 0 are great.

True, but 1 is like sandpaper compared to 0 what with how little Yumi exists and they dump literally all of the plot reveals in the last two chapters. Apparently I think 4 did the same thing?

How the fuck do I git gud at Yakuza Zero? Should I take specific talents? I'm never sure what to do and what to get and how to not get my ass kicked in the fighting segments.
Is there any missable stuff I need to do in the chapters? Is there some leveling I should do? What styles are the best to use?

Also: How do I win mahjong?

You can use literally any style, block, dodge, buy shitload of stamina royals etc.

Don't do it.

It sort of happens in every one of these games really.

The combat system in 0 is absolutely borked and it really depends on you how early you want to break it because it's completely money based rendering random encounters pointless.

You just earn money and spend it wherever the fuck you want. Health items like staminan spark can be bought for what is pennies in this game (literally best healing items from the very beginning to the game)

By learning, there are simple guides for it. Don't do any gambling for money though, it's a complete waste of time.

>buy shitload of stamina royals etc.
Is the game very consumable focused? I tend to never use them in games.
>Don't do it.
isn't there an achievement for it?

It depends on how you learn the fights. Button mashing doesn't work too well, and early game gimps your movesets until you do the quests / level them up a bunch. If you figure to use weapons or find out how to bypass guards and lay the smackdown without getting the shit kicked out of you, you may not need much in healing items at all, but on the converse, trying to brute force the game is gonna require a lot of healing.

If you are good you don't need them, otherwise yeah, you get shit ton of them but you can buy them to make things easier. Also use weapons/items/armor etc. 100%ing the game takes way too long, don't worry about achievements.

Don't worry about getting them, the games always go on sale user. As for Kiwami 1 I'm on the fence recommending it. It's reskinned 0, and all the games are reskinned/highly similar to some extent, but Kiwami 1 is a frankensteins monster of reusing a ton of elements from 0 while slapping on the original animations to newer models. Kiwami finishers are also one of the dumbest ideas ever. The original is still best enjoyed in it's original context as a rough PS2 game that spawned this great series.
Kiwami 2 is a major improvement over Kiwami 1, but the Crazy Ken Band tracks that were replaced are disappointing. Plus it's a shame that while the game replaced content in other ways, the 3rd district was removed. It's still a fine enough game that's worth recommending at least.

>I'm never sure what to do and what to get and how to not get my ass kicked in the fighting segments.
I would suggest to try to have fun by trying to be stylish in your own way. Use lock on and dodge. Also you probably noticed, but depending on after how many square attacks you execute finishing blow (triangle), it's different. Like 1-2 square attacks with finishing blow is usually a good and quick way of breaking enemy guard.
>Is there any missable stuff I need to do in the chapters?
Nope, not in Y0, Kiwami nor Kiwami 2.

>Is the game very consumable focused? I tend to never use them in games.
In general it's just health items that you chug but honestly 0 is so broken that you'll soon forget that you ever needed them.

psnprofiles.com/guide/5892-yakuza-0-mahjong-completion-guide
If you really want to do mahjong. It's tedious as shit and took me like 20 hours.

You can miss achievements in Y0 if you choose a wrong place to sit in the restaurant, during the car chase chapter etc.

>Crazy Ken Band
Does this mod fix that problem
nexusmods.com/yakuzakiwami2/mods/46

Detector for Kiryu is missable and some achievements are missable.

psnprofiles.com/guide/5654-yakuza-0-trophy-guide
Here you can also find missables.

I quit on Kiwami after 29 hours but I think I will finish it. It still has it's moments but too many things are tedious like Majima everywhere, just countering etc.

Oh, I was more thinking about substories and such, like in Y3.

I honestly didn't pay attention to the Yakuza modding scenes, but damn. Definitely get that if you're playing Kiwami 2, I'm personally not a fan of SiM's tracks.

only play kiwami 2 on pc with moveset mods (you can have yagami, akiyama, brawler, classic dojima movesets)
base combat is SHIT compared to 0 and k1 but ragdolls are really fun
also like any other game i recommend doing hardest difficulty and no damage buff for longer fights

I'd recommend not going straight from 0 to Kiwami. Take a break so that the mechanics feel a little bit fresh. It's by no means a bad game but it's not as good as 0. You'll need the story from Kiwami to play Kiwami 2.

Kiwami 2 is apparently way more moddable than 0/K1. You've even got classic DoJ representation.

You can do all substories you missed in the endgame. It's best not to miss them earlier so you get NPCs for cabaret and real estate thingy though.

I wouldn't mind the Majima Everywhere -system if he fucked off after I've done everyone of his encounters and got all the skills from him.

>the 3rd district was removed
It was comfy but only one street, just for OP not to expect a third city.

>it really depends on you how early you want to break it
And how do you break it?

Makes sense, thanks.
>Also use weapons/items/armor etc
Yeah I'm the type of person that never uses consumables because "what about later" until the final boss basically. So I end up never using these items.

Yeah I noticed that. I last played january of 2019, so it's been a while and I didn't get far, I'm gonna restart from the beginning I think to get the full story.

Ah, I found a mod that put number values on the tiles, but I guess it's not really like poker? So I might reconsider.

Ah, that's helpful, thanks.

I've only played Kiwami and Zero. Both are great games even though zero is a bit better

You can buy health items in the pharmacy, just use them. You will be very rich so no need to save up money.

I'm playing through Kiwami 2 right now. The game is fine, but some of the "end game" bosses and challenges just seem like bullshit, like the Amon brothers and their respective bouncer missions. Is there even any remotely fair way to fight them without just cheesing them with dumb weapons?

Last digit in this post number is the best Yakuza game

kiwami 1 is pretty mediocre compared to 0, still a decent game. can't believe i platinum'd the thing though. it has quite a few mahjong requirements

Gotta disagree with your post number.

Amon fights are meant to be cheesed.

From what I hear, the later Amons in the series (and the Kiwamis by extension) just become so bullshit instead of a test of skill unfortunately.

do you need to 100% everything to unlock amon or just beat all substories?

Just all substories. And if you miss any you can do them after you beat the game in the endgame.

Just the substories, depending on the game some stories itself are locked behind side missions/minigames.

You could fuck that up from 1 to 3, but now with Kiwami and the remasters they fixed (not sure about 3).

does it count even if you fuck up a substory? i fucked up the computer one for kiryu in 5

>also like any other game i recommend doing hardest difficulty and no damage buff for longer fights
Difficulty in Yakuza games is just absolute trash though.

Man these ported PS2 animations did a number on Kiryu's expressions

>And how do you break it?
You earn money. Most likely through wrecking Mr. Shakedown. Broken shotguns are literally broken against him if you play as Majima.

> but I guess it's not really like poker?
Far from it. It's something you have to learn to be good at but completion of Mahjong requires you to get all the different shit that's pure RNG especially with NPCs ending the game too early.

You can fuck up and still get amon and 100%.
Just read some up, for Y3 you also have to do all Hitman missions and master trainings. All other titles fix that by making things like these a substory.

its so jarring seeing the great looking new nishikiyama scenes and then comparing them to the ps2 scenes where modernish looking models move like a ps2 character

Yuki/Koyuki Hentai when?

The sad thing is that for PS2 animations they're not bad exactly, they just look bad when put on higher quality models from a gen up.

is 7 the first yakuza game they made since they started getting eu/us money? seems strange to change it up completely after that

Playing 5 right now. Are more people starting to realize its the best in the series with the Remastered Collection?

0 was localized by Sony, I believe, and it caught a surprising amount of attention in the west, especially with the Steam release. K1, 6, K2, Judgment and 7 followed in that order.

as a 0babby ive enjoyed playing through basically only these games for the past few years

No, Zero made it bigger here. That's why they made Kiwami 1 and that's why 6 sold quite well here too.

Yakuza 1 was the first. If you just mean popularity jump then it's still no, Judgment and Lost Paradise have come before it.

You'll start steamrolling most fights as soon as you get into the 2nd level of skills
The only shit that ends up being threatening are niggers that don't flinch like Mr Shakedown and even then you can just cheese them out with Rush style or weapons.

after playing the hunting minigame, i'm starting to think that it is

Story: 0>5
Content: 5>0
Gameplay: that is more up to debate

its the best in the collection at least

5 is the absolute garbage though.
>What if we bloat the game with so much stuff without finishing almost any of it
>What if story was even worse than rubber bullets
>What if one character's gimmick was something that breaks every character regardless

i love it, the story is fucking bonkers but the sheer amount of shit to do is wonderful altough catching that final fish for shinada's coach has made me wanna ram my controller through my tv several times

In what way is any content "unfinished"? Every character's major side content is a healthy length and varied in a fun way.

>but the sheer amount of shit to do
Why are you so eager to wade through shit?

akiyama should have had his own city and minigame desu

Its not even close to shit though. Name a game in the series other than 0 that has as much fun side content.

Attached: you picked the wrong house fool.jpg (680x451, 44.8K)

Attached: objective.png (532x735, 446.71K)

Saejima's city has invisible walls dude. A lot of the content is just thrown in to have some filler so the cities (that aren't Kamurocho or Sotenbori) won't feel empty but little thought is put behind them.

Akiyama literally shares his chapter with Haruka without anything special to do (=thrown in for the fans). Haruka herself has repeats of like 3 different fucking songs from like 20 songs that exist for dance battles events so it's just few events copy and pasted more or less until complete event.

Saejima's content is kind of a rush job as well and clashes completely with the "respect your kill bro" you get thrown at you all the time. But I guess it's the one minigame that isn't actually jarring to play. Unless you use traps. But those are useless anyway, lol.

I guess I can respect some of these opinions, but every yakuza game is flawed in some way or another. Even 0 which most consider to be the best in series. The real estate business is honestly complete trash compared to the hostess club.

>Are more people starting to realize its the best in the series with the Remastered Collection?
Only those who played part 1.

>Saejima's city has invisible walls dude.
It is the only city with big main streets. It was either walls or akward cars stop immediately or a small city grid again.

Real estate wouldn't be so annoying if you didn't have to run back to your office constantly. Like if you could just use your pager or something.

Just play 0

Other yakuza games are pure trash
Kiwami 1 with memejima everywhere and Kiwami 2 with boring ass combat system

Attached: 1583409784688.jpg (976x826, 188.58K)

I fucking cheated on this and just made payouts instant so I could focus on the management part and not running around holding my dick doing things or fighting problem makers. At least I did the Cabaret Club legit, but not Real Estate.

Same goes for the weapon shop equipment search thing.

Even at that theres nothing fun about managing properties in comparison to running the club for the night/training hostesses.
