For Ultimate? Maybe some Spirit Events/Costumes for other Nintendo associated Rareware IPs like Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark and Battletoads. It's way too early to be thinking about the sixth Smash game, Sakurai even said he'd be fine waiting 10 years before touching the series again, it's not on his radar at all.

Well it depends on how they're handled. If they're like Daisy or Richter who are 100% a reskin with the only difference being idle animations, then they could pump out plenty of them. But if they're like Dark Samus who has unique animations for its entire moveset. then you can expect less of them.

Sakurai doesn't have plans for any future games as of now, and if they do, how would they top 80+ characters while maintaining up-to-date visual fidelity, new modes, and balance/gameplay changes?

Given who they added as echoes, people realize it's a good thing. You'd never get Daisy or Richter otherwise. Guys like Dark Samus could be their own character. And then consider that people wanted Dry Bowser, Birdo and even Shadow as a costume. Echo fighters let those lesser characters shine for a moment.

That's just it, why show that specifically and why the DK music? There was nothing stopping Sakurai from putting in K. Rool as an assist trophy if Takamaru, Stafy, Isaac, Black Knight, Shadow and Skull Kid became assists too. The Klaptrap could have came alone, yeah. It's pretty clear that these so-called "dead" characters bring out such a huge reaction. If they are cheap to get, why not put in fighters like Banjo. Plus Phil, the boys at Rare and the former dudes at Rare looked elaited to have Banjo in Smash, why anyone would think that they'll be cut is just jealous seething.
