Because you can't see around you enough to make educated guesses. You must just trial and error the whole thing to find every secret. You also need to find them to reach the final boss.

How did rayman continue to be popular after this game

It wasn't hard for me until Eat at Joe's.

The sequel was just that good.

It's not really that hard until you get to Candy Land. Then it spikes.

>You must just trial and error the whole thing to find every secret. You also need to find them to reach the final boss.
That's not true, if I remember right. I recall I completed the game once and went back to gather them all afterwards.

You just wait until you get a hold on the extra levels that were made for the later PC versions (Rayman Friends/Gold, Rayman Forever, ...)

Rayman 1 was a bestseller in Europe, I believe. Game's sold something like 5 million copies or some shit.

post your face when Space Mama

some platformers were hard on purpose just so it would take players longer to beat them.
this made less weekend rentals and more actual game sales.
enjoy getting all the cages to fight the final boss

its not hard until you realize you have to get all cages, so essentially 100% it, to even got the final area

I'd say the game has a major spike at Picture City. Pencil Pentathalon is definitely tougher than anything before it and Space Mama is a proper filter. That said, anyone who makes it past Band Land probably has it in them to make it through the whole shebang.

Even though I've replayed the game enough times to know the location of every cage by heart that fucking level still puts me on edge every single fucking time.

I always get filtered at blue mountains

did anybody here beat the game without using the cage cheat? i also used the 99 lives cheat at the last area cause i couldnt be fucked doing everything all over

PS1 version didn't have playtesters.

>tfw never made it past band land

Its not even that hard.
I remember it being very hard as a kid, but as an adult id say it barely goes above "normal" difficulty.

because you play dogshit like dark souls and are used to spending 10 hours for a boss now

Somehow even rayman 2 managed to be hard despite adding a completely new dimension

I managed to get past Band Land. But when you realise you have to get all the cages and its hard to even just simy beat some levels due to how ridiculously tight the platforming and timing gets you just lose the motivation to do it.

Well guess what, you're wrong. You need to get all the cages to "fight" the final boss

i'm excited for the fan remake tbqh, demo looks promising

Rayman 1 pulls a lot of borderline trial and error shit like things just randomly appearing because of arbitrary conditions being met. On top of that some enemies have rigid AI patterns and small weak points that require near pinpoint precision to deal with. It's not insurmountable but it is definitely challenging for a single player game.

where can i find out more about this? kinda unrelated but wasnt there a zelda ocarina of time remake in unity aswell? what happened to that

T. Never got past band land

Game also had limited continues

there is always a little star that indicates that something is gonna appear

Fair enough. Have to replay it some day.

I actually miss the Super mario-esque overworld that Rayman 1 had going compared to its sequels.

>m-muh trial and e-error
Fuck off, the game manual literally says Tings will never lead you into harm. And as long as you look around you and collect every Ting you can see and follow the paths they lead you to, you will find every cage, or at the very least stumble upon the triggers to spawn said cages.

Wasn't this only on the gameboy advance version? I don't remember it in the original

Look on Gamejolt for Rayman Redemption; there's a demo for it available to DL and according to the guy behind the project, it should be done within 2020's end

I completed the game multiple times, nigger.
If you arent trash at videogames, you can react to most appearing obstacles right away.

Now if you are an american you wont get past the mosquito segment.

>have a rough enough time not taking damage on the space mama/mosquito mutants alone
>mfw that health bar

you‘re probably right. last time i played it was the gba version

Thats cool, I just remember it being significantly easier to find the cages on GBA. Shame the music was worse though

>had the gold edition as a kid
>its exclusive levels required 100% completion to make any goal appear
I don't think I ever cleared even half of that game.

>and then you fight Mr. Skops and beat him in a single attempt

zoomers are a lost cause.

For me there's a few "speed bumps" that are noticeably harder than anything before it. The first is Allegro Presto, where you have to jump across those tiny slippery platforms over a bottomless pit before you unlock the hover (which to add insult to injury is at the very end of that same level). Then it's Space Mama's Crater, some of the screens in that level are designed exactly like IWBTG screens, and on top of that you have to fight the boss at the end. The last is obviously Eat At Joe's, I will never eat at a place named after a Joe because of it.

>Struggle with the first screen for a while
>Finally make it to the second
>Get brought down to 1 health before I figure out the pattern
>When Skops hits 1 health he tries to fake you out and go in for a quick attack
>mfw I read his ass and beat him anyway

I didn't know about either cheat until after the fact, I just farmed tings for extra lives in the level where you ride Bzzit

RAY

It's not. Rayman 1 is legitimately peak game design, the difficulty is perfect.
t. finished every port of the game.

would you want new 2d or 3d rayman? also fuck rabbids.

It sucks because I like his design and theme a lot
youtube.com/watch?v=o8U_o2kyXVU

I only ever made it to blue mounains as a kid, damn it felt good to finally finish the game a few years back on an emulator
Space mama was fucking brutal

3D. Origins and Legends are enough and with the 3D platforming genre making a comeback (Crash, Spyro, A Hat in Time, etc.) it's Rayman's turn to join it.

As for the Rabbids, they should still utilize the scrapped concept of them being zombie-like enemies. Regardless of the complaining from fans the Rabbids are still successful so it wouldn't be unwise to include them, they can easily offer a cannon explanation for why they've turned evil like in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and it's not like it would be inappropriate for a family-rated entry unlike that scrapped "Killer Freaks from Outer Space" game. Besides, good designs like Serguei, Pink, and that Giant Rabbid from the GBA games should never go to waste.

rayman legends was amazing and i am pretty sure a sequel would be even better but i wouldn‘t mind rayman 4 since it‘s long overdue

it was a launch title in NA also

Since we've already had two 2D ones in the past decade I'm dying for a 3D one, but I'd take that SNES one if it ever gets a full release for some reason

Name a more ruined gaming icon than rayman

Castlevania

How is he ruined? Screwed out of a proper 4th game, sure, but all mainline entries in the series have been great. If anything, the one thing threatening to compromise his dignity (Raving Rabbids) ended up spinning off into its own mess and leaving Rayman alone.

I actually liked a lot of the gba music more, but maybe that’s just nostalgia glasses. I will say that I went back to the gba version and was amazed I got as far as I did as a kid because on the gba you can’t see SHIT. Even the smallest jumps require you to do a blind jump because the screen is so small. It’s ridiculous

i only just recently found out you can punch them away if you have impeccable timing

I remember a speedrunner pointing out that a completely intended path in one level required a jump from one of those swing things that had like a 2-frame or 3-frame window. That's just an intended route through the stage. Rayman is just kind of haphazard and bullshit like that.

This is the most blessed boomers-only filter thread and I'm honored to be among such good company
