Spare parts are cheap as shit in North America though, especially through sites like RockAuto. If you can get a contact here to redirect shipping to you, often you can be fine. I know tons of people who buy cars here, ship em back to europe for ~5kCAD, and are fine for maintenance. The big killer is fuel costs, but if it's a weekend car or a project, it's not as much of an issue when you have a beater daily hatch.
I'd recommend looking into lesser-known cars. Shit like 1st gen stangs/camaros, Corvettes, Thunderbirds, GTOs, Chevelles, Cudas, Charger/Challengers, etc. all command stupid prices, especially when you get into nhmbers-matching trim code bullshit, just look at shit like Mecum and Barret-Jackson auctions and how much they go for.
I'd recommend late 2nd-gen or third gen Camaro/Firebirds, foxbody mustangs, stuff like the Dodge Mirada/Magnum, or things like Plymouth Scamps, Darts, GM Nova/Acadians, and Ford Galaxies if you prefer sixties styling.
Golden rule, if it has a big/small block, you can swap in whatever you want, or make it work. Any car with a 350SBC, 340/360 SBM, or a Windsor can make power if you know what you're doing, and for very cheap too. Port the heads, lap the valves, seal the exhaust crossover, and generally make the thing breathe with better intakes/exhausts. Long tube headers are like $60 used, and can go a long way to unchoking smog barges.

oh, and it you want real boomerlore, check the engine you have for the piston offset. Often, you can turn the pistons 180° around, and make more power for literally no cost. An advanced offset helps the impulse on the crank during the power cycle, and is much more aggressive. This only works on pistons without valve relief though, so if you've got flat-tops, youre good to go

i actually really like racing games but i have a huge ass fear of driving cars.
When i was younger i got my license but made the mistake of asking my dad to give me some driving lessons since even without a license i wasn't too sure i was able to drive properly.
He just kept screaming at me for 4 days straight telling me that everything i was doing i was wrong i would get me killed. So one day i kinda got sick of it, hit the breaks in the middle of the road, called him every name under the sun i took a buss home.
Now he is desperate for me to lose my fear of driving because is old and has a severe fear of having another heart attack and not making to the hospital.

Everyone always hates me on this imageboard when I say it, but I really enjoy drag racing. I wish more games could get the physics and custom engine work of drag race cars. Automation and Beam.NG are the closest I can get.
