The 90s were the peak of human civilization because the Cold War just ended, and we had a decade of unprecedented peace and growth in technology, before jews did 9/11 and plunged us into suffering again

Honestly, part of me is nostalgic for that era and I want to go back. But another part of me has no desire whatsoever.

I think the reason the past seems better is because you already know what's going to happen, you already know the score and how things are gonna work out. Maybe things actually were better for you back then, I don't know, but for most it was just more of the same.

For me the 90s only seem better because I only remember the good stuff, and I had everything taken care of for me by my parents. I was a kid in school, my only worries were homework, video games and soccer practice.

Nowadays I'm intelligent enough to be painfully aware of the problems affecting the world around me. Many of those same problems existed 25 years ago, and some of them weren't as far along or some were worse back then, but it's essentially the same shit on a different day.

I think one reason so much seems worse now is because (aside from the fact that a lot is genuinely worse now) we are uncertain in the present, whereas the past is certain. The past is concrete, defined, immovable, known. Your mind will obscure the bad parts of it and illuminate the good, creating an illusion in your mind that the past was just a better place.

You don't know with certainty what will happen to you tomorrow, but you already know what happened to you yesterday. And so we fear tommorow and love yesterday.

my lifetime neighbor that I grew up with was a girl that had a room like this. I used to sleepover her house and watch goosebumps and the disney channel. I distinctly remember seeing KH1 commercials all the time while over there because I never watched the disney channel on my own. It gives me some of the most intense nostalgia you can imagine.

This. This is the reason why no matter what decade it is we'll always look back on our childhood years with rose-tinted goggles. It's not the 80s/90s were a better time, it's that we were too young to realize what problems existed back then when our world consisted of just school and home.
