Almost no rational consumer would ever buy an XBox. There are few specific short timeframes where some of them made sense like the XoneX for $500 right when it released since GPU prices were going into the fucking stratosphere thanks to cuckcoin miners.

The XSeX might make sense right on release if a few very specific circumstances are met:
1.)AMD Big Navi somehow turns out great and performance scales as expected, making the XSeX GPU as good as a 2080(non super)
2.)AMD can somehow sell these GPUs to MS for ~$200~ or less even though their profit margins aren't that high. AMD would essentially need to sell these at a loss(which they won't) or somehow massively improve yields. If they don't imrpove yields then the bulk discount can only go so low before they're making basically zero profit on them.
3.)Because of 2. The series X is $550 or less
4.)Despite massively improving yields and making those Big Navi chips for a much lower price AMD either delays their desktop release or sells them at a massive price hike, meaning PC gamers can't just get a ~56-60~ CU big Navi with an aftermarket cooler for $300-$350, OC it to 2Ghz, and completely destroy the XSeX.

If Big Navi fails to live up to the hype or drives up the price of the series X then no rational consumer should ever buy one.

However, console gamers are not rational consumers, this is pretty self-evident. It doesn't matter if all Xbox games are on PC and the PC is an objectively better platform, many console gamers are irrationally scared of it and will invent any excuse to not switch over. That's why Microsoft can safely keep porting all Xbox games to PC, they're simply not competing for the same market.

That's because "A decent PC" is a higher standard than a console. If you want to play games at 30 FPS and medium-low settings you can probably build a PC for $350 that can do that, maybe even less.

And you're still saving money on not having to pay for online and cheaper games.

The only true embarrassment was the Xbox One. It takes more than one bad gen to kill an entire console brand as we saw with Sega who had an insignificant amount of money compared to MS. The Series X has potential to put Xbox back on the map, especially if they keep up their claim of having backwards compatibility with all previous Xbox consoles.
