Original or Enhanced?

I really want to play BG 1 and 2 since i didnt get the chance when i was young, but i cant decide if i want the enhanced editions or the originals.
Im a purist in general and dont like heavily modded games.
I like to play them as intended unless there s serious bugs that need fixing or non game breaking QOL additions.
can you give me the pros and cons for both editions Yas Forums?
also general bg thread i guess

Beamdog is guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.

The short answer is that the Enhanced Editions (EEs) updated the games to run more easily on modern machines without having to apply patches and mods. They also added some minor new content, fixed some bugs, got multiplayer to work, and made UI and graphical changes.

If you're looking to save money, you can buy the originals and have a perfectly fine time with them if you're willing to invest some time and energy into figuring out how to set them up.

Generally, I'd say to get the EEs. There are legitimate reasons to prefer the originals, but I don't think most of them would apply to someone who hasn't played the games before. You're not going to miss the original graphics or UI.

You're gonna have to get the EE's anyway if you want to play the originals because Beamdog bundled the original games with their enhanced edition versions. No way to buy the originals digitally.

thanks, number 4) made it clear for me.
originals it is.

Original if you have the time to mod it. It looks better, plays better and is an overall superior experience if you don't mind putting the work in.

Enhanced if you want to play on a smartphone or you're a lazy fuck. Worse in every way but requires less prep-work.

This, the fucking slimey cunts.

You can just play the EEs and use a mod to either tone down or remove the new NPCs. It's honestly less of a hassle.

Do you want to get ORC'D by a Big Gay Orc Blackguard? Do you want to be denied the opportunity to BLEACH a Black vampire because she is some dyke on the writing team's fantasy?
Enhanced it is!

bruh i only pay for games i cant steal.
i wouldnt give beamdog a dime.

I honestly don't mind Dorn, he's a bit too edgy but he's alright if you're into that sort of character. Rasheed seems OK too. Same as Baeloth, but he's missing from 2EE for some reason.
Neera and Hexxat should die on a pyre though.

How the fuck do you navigate through maps without losing your mind? At best your party moves horribly slow. At worst they get stuck on each other and will be walking in place because everyone seems to have a huge collision box and can't move through party members. There's also that tiny pause every time you reassign where they should be going, and if they can't immediately walk the same path everyone else is, they decide to take the long way around through other rooms. Please tell me there's a mod for this.

>Rasheed
What the fuck, meant Rasaad, but that was probably obvious.

Just pirate. I'm usually a buyfag, but these are two of the games that I would consider pirating just because of this shit they pulled in eliminating customer choice on the matter.

There used to be an option to increase the amount of nodes used for pathing in the original configs. Magically vanished with EE though. Fixed a bunch of that shit.

Btw, don't you get the original plus EE if you buy on GoG?

>At best your party moves horribly slow.
Install the mod that gives Paw of the Cheetah effects to everyone out of combat
>At worst they get stuck on each other and will be walking in place because everyone seems to have a huge collision box and can't move through party members.
That's really mostly an issue with BG1 where everything is narrow as fuck for some reason, it's not nearly as bad in BG2. But honestly, either get the hidden gameplay options mod that has enhanced pathfinding or just enable the console and Ctrl+J everytime they get stuck. It's usually mostly a problem when you pre-position yourself for combat.

>Point #4
I do not get it.
If this is a well-known fact, than why no one made a mod to get rid of this added content?
Or they think that Beamdog can C&D such mod if it gets released?

It's horseshit. They even tried saying they're giving players more choices now that they bundled the original games with the enhanced version (no joke, they actually said that. Read it on gog.com BG forums). I gave up on this company after SoD.
I also don't need to pirate I still have my original CD's from way back in the day, and I bought the digital version of BG 1&2 before the EE version was even announced.

Pirate the originals, do not support beamdog in any way.

Yeah I liked Baeloth a lot when I played with him and was really disappointed out of all companions, they decided to leave him out of BG2

It's more about not giving them money.

Nigger.

Thank you based beamdog-user

These, beamdog is cancer for they have desecrated the one and only. At least PoE didn't desecrate the actual game only it's memory. At least Larian is desecrating the name only. But Beamdog... they did something far more haram...

not if you sail the high seas

Dude the originals on GOG.

The enhanced editions spoil the magic of the game with its SJW nonsense hamfisted in and the tons of changed dialogue.

OG Shadows of Amm, don't even play BG1, BG2 is the king. Tons of storyline and good quests.

Playing as a thief helped uncover a lot of shit because you could unlock and thieve things you aren't meant to know about as a regular character.

Its just faster to use EE and install the mod that removes the Beamdog's content + Rogue Rebalancing because Beamdog fucked some rogue classes

speaking of these motherfuckers, I saw they released a "remaster" of Planescape Torment, did they also add sjw shit into it?

I sincerely hope they didn't rewrite any of PS:T considering the writing was 100% of the selling point of that game.

It's just as fast to get the originals and install the widescreen mod. The original games work just fine on modern hardware and operating systems. Take your "Enhanced" Editions and sod off.

They got Avellone to re-write/polish some stuff, but thats it
I didn't see any SJW stuff, they learned from Baldurs Gate not to listen to trannies.

Original, the Enhanced edition look like actual shit, and all UI/grafics changes actually were for the worst compared to just modding original to higher resolution.

based

so would you say it's okay to buy the remaster on a sale?

How much can I cheat/make the game too easy? without external tools

I got the EE's for cheap during sales and never had any problems with em, it's easier than messing around with mods

God's blessings, you restore my faith in this board.

thoughts on nalia

Can you show me what exactly what dialogue they changed? The shit the old NPCs have to say when it comes to the new companions is shit, sure, but you can either ignore them or mod them out. Was there anything else? Because I'm honestly not too sure.
I played through the EE of both games recently and it was okay. I'm glad I don't have to deal with WeiDU anymore, at least for the most part, because it would always shit the bed at some point if you've installed too many mods.

Just pick a normal-ish difficulty and pre-buff. There, you've broken the game.

i pirated the EE editions
also i made sure to never interacted with the Beamdog's companions

It's hard for me to not take this with a grain of salt. There are times people get mad at games like Tyranny for having a single gay scene in it. (which you have to choose to follow mind you) Unless a character straight up white knights it, who cares? Most of the time you can kill party members so if they annoy you just kill them. So dumb.

>also i made sure to never interacted with the Beamdog's companions
Oh, I like interacting with them... with a Disintegrate or two...

Why didnt you take literally 10 seconds to mod them out

>It's hard for me to not take this with a grain of salt. There are times people get mad at games like Tyranny for having a single gay scene in it. (which you have to choose to follow mind you) Unless a character straight up white knights it, who cares? Most of the time you can kill party members so if they annoy you just kill them. So dumb.
it's true tho

>Not bringing them all to the Basilisk field and having them turned to stone for all eternity as a monument to beamdog's failure.

Should focus more on relieving the poor of their sexual misery than their material one

There is literally nothing easier than modding BG, and if you mod your game you will install the same mods whether you play the EE or the originals.

because it takes even less time to not talk to them

But you will have at least two forced cutscenes/encounters in BG1.

Don't like her much. Not how proper noblewomen should behave.

Tweaks anthology-> increase movement speed when out of combat by 50, 100 or 200%

>easier than messing around with mods
Dude, modding Infinity Engine games is the easiest thing around. It's all automated. Just put the mod you downloaded in the game's folder and then run the exe and follow the onscreen prompts.

Literally dead wrong

Used her in every playthrough, no idea why.

People literally get mad at these games for just HAVING A PATH TO GAY SEX. Mass effect had gay sex, why not be mad at mass effect for that?
It makes no fucking sense, if you are not gay, or don't want gay sex....don't pick the fucking options. Kill the gay fucker. I mean these games give you so much freedom, what's the fucking issue? It's even there?

I hate it as much as the next guy, but unless the game is literally built around that concept, who cares? Ignore it. Move on. Mod it. So many fucking options beside bitching on a forum because you can choose to have girls fuck eachother because men are dumb.

It's the principle. Mass Effect was made at a time where gay sex was seen as progressive in video games, BG wasn't. So going back and adding it just to stick with the times is turbo-degenerate.

Characters also scream things like "I'M A TRANNY CAN YOU DEAL WITH THAT" and "I LOVE MURDERING PEOPLE AND GAY ORC SEX" and "BLAH I AM A LESBIAN VAMPIRE"
compare to say, Arcade Gannon in NV, or really any gay character in NV

And at least one more in BG2

But that immoral and illegal!

I tried playing BG1 but I'm not enjoying the combat, should I try story mode or should I stick with it.

I remember I see this copypasta somewhere in mid 2018. Regardless, thank you to make me stay away from beamdoge

dude, I'm literally gay and I was infuriated by Mizhena as much as the next inceal-neckbeard-straighto
it was inappropriate, idiotic, made no sense in the world as is, forced, we all know it was intentional, since the creator admitted it that she DID want to shovel down this trash on our throat so... do you think I, or anyone else had a problem with the Girdle of Gender? literally the first magical item you find in BG1? nope, no one. so did no one had any problem with Edwin turning into a chick. because it made sense, it was natural part of the world, and was hilarious... but not Mizhena, no

and it's just one problem out of a hundred others, they changed the personality of everyone, Jaheira, Minsc, everyone! they had lobotomized them (even if this makes little sense in Minsc's case)

just drop it

Stick with it nigger. It's just low level DnD, it's always that way. Plus, it doesn't help that 80% of BG1's locations are fucking forests.

and these faggots wanted to do BG3
at least larian is better than this

Based gay man
