When will we finally get another GOOD MMORPG, Yas Forums?

When will we finally get another GOOD MMORPG, Yas Forums?

>technology is finally good enough
>MP games are the shit right now
>people love MMORPGs
>can combine MMORPGs with other games such as based building, strategy, action games, card games, civ games

What is final fantasy 14

just play ffxiv like everyone else

>people love mmorpgs
That's where you're wrong buddy

once every 5 months?

If I wanted an ERP chatbox I'd play VRchat

I will never play an MMO again. It's nice at the start but then you have to watch all your friends leave one by one and everyone you played with slowly quit until you're alone and all you have are memories and loyalty to a dead game.

Attached: tosg.gif (595x462, 741.38K)

You made the mistake of playing an MMO that was doomed from the start. I'm still playing with my friends from years ago.

Attached: 1518288166228.webm (786x974, 218.42K)

You will never ever enjoy another MMORPG for more than a few hours. The novelty of them is long gone, every secret, build and trick uploaded to the web within the first day.
It's like modding a TES game. Fun for an hour then the stagnation hits you hard.

Decent game with the defect of getting new, high quality content worth doing only once every 3 months or so. You can clear said content in a couple days after a big patch.

i dont like when my cat watchs me mastrubating.

>tfw no good VR MMO yet

another? did I miss something?

Don't act like you played the game when you clearly haven't. Took most groups months to clear ultimate. The hardest content ever seen in the genre.

I can't. I'm neither a tranny nor a weeb. FF14 is also practically not a mmo. MMOs are supposed to be big and open, not instanced and confined.

Fuck you and fuck your shitty instanced-idle sim.

Give it a decade.

Never

A single player game

i don't think we'll ever see good mmos again

>I can't. I'm neither a tranny nor a weeb.
It's perfect for you then, faggotlord.
>MMOs are supposed to be big and open, not instanced and confined.
Shittiest meme ever created.
Some of the best MMOs ever created were very instance based and yet you could easily interact with everyone else and have an high quality social experience. Open world is just a waste of resources and nothing else. I couldn't give a shit if a map has a loading screen or not, what I care is if the game is great.
Go fuck yourself and play BotW if you like the open world meme so much.

FF14 is an okay game. It barely qualifies as an MMORPG however. You know I'm right.
>game is split apart into tiny maps
>sense of scale and space is ruined by teleportation to every possible convenient spot
>everything is instanced. everything.
>zero approach to building your character, you just pick a job and there is only one right way to play
>content is locked behind a plethora of uninteresting story filled with expositions translated by some faggot with his head so far up his ass he has to use the most archaic English he can muster to make it seem interesting
There are many other reasons why the game barely feels like an RPG, and the only MMO feeling thing about it is seeing a bunch of people idling in Limsa

dilate

We won't, at least until VR is good to the point you can have a VR exclusive MMOs. Over the past 10 years MMOs have been deconstructed by other genres and they took what people liked about MMOs and turned them into a smaller package, Assfaggots, Battle Royale etc. Not to mention that being able to play a game with lots of people has lost it novelty a while back since a lot of multiplayer games can have big servers now. Add to the fact the prime demographic for MMOs back in the day doesn't have as much spare time anymore and zoomers would rather play something else

>He's not a weeb

Attached: 1456720739111.jpg (490x424, 69.22K)

Never, metafags and video guides made sure things like that are done forever

>game is split apart into tiny maps
Personal taste, I don't think it's a problem. >sense of scale and space is ruined by teleportation to every possible convenient spot
True, but walking from town to town on foot, taking 30 minutes each just to do something it's not playing, it's a fucking chore.
>everything is instanced. everything.
Again.
>zero approach to building your character, you just pick a job and there is only one right way to play
Because it's always like this, even in games with multiple choices: FF14 simply said "fuck it" and went with only 1 way to play each class, it makes it easier to balance (and it shows, there's no truly underpowered class that can't clear content).
>content is locked behind a plethora of uninteresting story filled with expositions translated by some faggot with his head so far up his ass he has to use the most archaic English he can muster to make it seem interesting
This is the only true complain, I agree completely.

None of those are bad things
>Getting filtered by the best writing in MMORPG history
Go back to battle for azeroth

>just eat faeces like everyone else

"people" like you have ruined MMOs and videogames altogether. I hope you get infected with the Chinese plague.

When Immersive VR becomes as normal as having a smartphone. Not sooner, not later and don't kid yourself into thinking otherwise. It just won't happen, because the lack of a good mmorpg is not just a lack of a game with interesting/good mechanics, it just doesn't fit with the current culture.

Everything is datamined before it is even released, and it is expected of you to look it up before playing, killing all sense of adventure and in-game community alike. MMOs are a huge time sink, and current culture just doesn't allow for much free-time, and even if you and a bunch of other no-lifers have it, most people don't, but MMOs rely on A LOT of people playing it. Also, the ones that HAVE a lot of time, can't play it indefinitely, since there is, mostly, a hard cap to level, skills, and even what you can do with wealth, so if you are a no lifer, there is not much sense in playing it a lot and you'll get bored anyway, therefore MMOs are in that "sour spot" (as opposed to sweet spot) where they don't really cater to anybody anymore.

yeah im in a group with friends that i met 10+years ago. The only problem is that im playing eve online.

Never.

Modern MMOs are either coop RPGs like WoW/FF or niche barely functional clusterfucks. Its because no one can take or afford the risk of trying something new with an MMO. They're the most expensive type of game to make and run, people expect continuous content and a lot can fuck up.

You wont see anything other than WoW clones until making an MMO is cheap and smaller AA/A devs can afford to take risks.

My idea of a perfect MMORPG is for the genre itself to go beyond tge scope of what they already have done. MMORPG needs to go full simulation. Generate a world. Have that world be simulated by AI with a human guiding it. Let the economy mature and have it make history. After that create a cataclysm that needs to have players constantly popping in. There a fully immerse revolutionary new MMORPG. The tech is there. People just need to do it.

lol

>posting FF in an MMO thread
FF is not an MMO. Runescape is an MMO, or EvE. FF is an instanced coop RPG. Its like Vindictus or Destiny.

>I decide what MMO means!
I know what you mean user but don't be silly

I can't believe WoW is fucking dead

I played a shitty f2p mmo for a solid 6 years so I know this feeling all too well. The only way I finally got away was a permanent ban.

It's like as time goes on you make new friends in the game but the whole time you can't help but feel a sense of "how dare you stand where he stood" as you promote new officers and shit in your guild.

The idea of naming genres is socially constructed by people so yes I literally decide what MMO means. FF doesnt have a large persistant world, nothing ever changes but what the developer changes. And nearly all the content is heavily instanced. So na, its not an MMO.

>how dare you stand where he stood
lmao

>everyone collapses into comas, again
>alternate dimension bullshit
>hints of a darker story but nothing bad actually happens lol
>wow the villain is actually talking to us and has a motivation that isn't purely evil damn
>bullshit magic bodysnatchers, no rhyme or reason necessary to just bring back dead characters when it's convenient
>you're still stuck with a bunch of the same fucking characters from 1.0 that have barely evolved, presented with a bunch of moments of them almost dying but nah they're fine lol
>100 fetch quests to fix giant robots who then fix everything
>also a whole different video game is now canon to this universe
If you really think this is good writing you need to go pick up a goddamn book. Shadowbringers is the most overrated shit and I felt like I wasted my time paying attention to it since everyone told me how great it was.

it's a fucking PS3 game

>2012
>MMOs
i cant believe you guys still have time to play mmos and want to waste you money and precious time on such fucking retarded genre
mmos were good two decades ago if you want to have internet friends there are other ways than wasting 2000 hours in one game

Attached: 1564428738615.jpg (1080x1080, 461.48K)

How come everyone in the XIV threads acts like their game is the best MMO in the entire world and thought it should win best game of the decade. But outside of the 14 community and review sites everyone thinks it's shit.

When Bannerlord releases and Persistent Kingdoms get ported over. Sure, the maximum number of players on a server will be 200 (if that)... but with Bannerlord being so open to modding, what's stopping us from having players jump from the edge of the map to the next map on another server? As long as the servers aren't to capacity.

>and review sites
But these are neutral and reviews are made by different people? So not everyone says it's shit.
My friend says it's shit only because it has a sub (and it's true), otherwise he'd play it too.

But oh wait, your "everyone" is Yas Forums, place filled with WoWfags and contrarians so... lol

The breakup of the zones alone is nauseating. Drives me fucking nuts after playing WoW where the continents are at least mostly seamless in getting from one point to another.

Probably some sunken cost fallacy. I've played a shitload of the game and I can safely say that it sucks ass. It's so formulaic and they only cut back on the amount of content they actually deliver.

>Yas Forums "MMO" thread
>it's always just the same 3 retards circlejerking about how XIV and WoW aren't MMOs and only their niche games from 20 years ago count as MMOs
>even though these games are so bad that they don't even play them
getting a bit tired of this rerun, ngl

Attached: 1578360033482.png (720x720, 599.34K)

If you actually care about a cohesive world, XIV sucks for that anyway. Not just through the gameplay but through the setting as well. No other MMO has had as much of an identity crisis about what genre it wants to make the setting.

>technology is finally good enough
It really isn't.
When there is no latency, technology is good enough.

No one's arguing about WoWs validity as an MMORPG. It sucks ass, but at least you have talent builds and major continents.

anyone hyped for blue protocol?

because it would suck to admit you spent lot of money and time on shit game so you gonna cope saying its great game and one of the best mmos in the world

I played XIV and everyone in it thought it was the best game invented. But outside of it everyone doesn't like it. Like when they first showed the crossover event with monster hunter I seen people getting excited, until having it instantly dissipate when they seen it was something for that final fantasy MMO.

would you say FF11 isn't a MMO either because it has zone loading screens?

play ff11

Attached: 1579795264226.png (1114x1214, 827.92K)

>muh talent builds
Yes, picking the 1° talent build otherwise your party will think you're trolling and you'll get kicked it's truly "having choices", amirite?

I didn't play much 11 but from what I understand the pacing made you feel like there was a bigger world and you were forced to travel, so I'd say it probably didn't detract as much as XIV having load screens with free mounts and teleporting anywhere. Load screens can just be limitations of the era, too.

That's more on the community I'd argue. Mathematically, from the dawn of RPGs there was a "right" way to do things for optimal minmaxing faggotry.

Yeah ToS was fun it's a shame it got taken over by autistic BRs. It's still a good game but I just do not have the time to play it.

I'd kill for a Mabinogi spiritual successor.

the world is bigger in XIV and in XI there were also teleports and everyone got their mounts at lvl 20 too tho

L2 was based. Everyone who sat different, is some casual who nave had a good clan or ally and have never experience the joy of fighting other clans for boss domination and castle siege domination.

The only big leap in MMOs can be in VR
Real, actual virtual reality though, just like in my japanese animes

>good
>MMORPG
El Oh El

>Load screens can just be limitations of the era, too.
And what makes you think that in 2020 we can afford something better?
Trying to make a game like you anons said with:
>infinite world
>no loading screens
>no instances
They'd have to spend like 5 billion dollars every month to afford servers of that capability, without counting how shit the gameplay would be, but you don't even spend 1-2 minutes thinking while making a post so it's natural that you come up with stupid ideas like this.
To get the game you'd like we have to wait way more, 2020 is not soon enough sadly.
>That's more on the community I'd argue.
I forgot to mention, picking the 1° talent build 'cause the game can't balance at all every single one of the 30 talent builds available and all except one are absolute dogshit it's truly having a choice. That's the case of WoW, by the way.

Don't know man. From what I've seen, people just want an open world, physics based world like BOTW, mmorpg with no instances, have great story, roaming monsters, ever evolving narrative, with decent graphics, great customizations for any body type, no gender lock, and also with lots of players. How come no one is able to do all of that?

because no one would play that

About to start Vindictus. Is it worth playing ? What char to pick.
