boy what an interesting hot fucking take

what did you think about it?

answer me coward

>extremely clunky horse controls
>can't strafe when firing an arrow
>changing control scheme removes roll button altogether
>empty world with absolutely nothing to do except find fruit and fight lizards
>ability to swing sword yet it is used for absolutely nothing in game
>health bar in 2018
>4 hour length
>unintuitive climbing controls

it's shit

ok fair
but besides those points it's pretty fucking good

>>baddies
hmmmm
either way yes, this was one of my favorite games on the ps2. haven't played the remaster though, but it filters a lot of people

>baddies
You're objectively the bad guy.

It's a remaster of a PS2 game.

>god tier atmosphere, art direction, world design, OST and boss design
uh huh

>horse controls
agreed
>can't strafe
it's not a fucking fps, also you can fire from horseback on the move
>roll button
there's still an input to do it, learn it pussy, but also why would you change control schemes in the first place
>empty world
explore for those fruits and lizards to boost your hp and stamina, sure there's nothing else to do but what else would you even want to do? crafting system? no thanks homedawg
>swing sword
it's for the lizards silly willy
>health bar
video game
>4 hour length
this game is the perfect example of having little content with a fuckton of replayability
>unintuitive climbing controls
these are extremely intuitive what're you talking about, it's literally a hold-on button

Spoken like a true pleb that can't appreciate a genuine master class of a game

>a fuckton of replayability
lol what?

If you like visible progress unlocking shit by replaying the game under different conditions and performing various tasks, the 2018 remake is good for that with the art gallery. Also if you just like hunting shit down, it's pretty comfy looking for lizards. Obviously this doesn't appeal to everyone.

>empty world with absolutely nothing to do except find fruit and fight lizards
>not understanding that the game is a huge christian allegory with tons of motifs and that there are places to explore that are from ICO or bits and pieces in ICO, as well as the general state of the world.

You're a failure.

Its unlikely but I hope they also remaster Ico some day

Killed 2 collossi, got bored and went to fap for trap porn.

This game is boring.

Is this why I got a trophy for coming across a barrel in a cave?

That's actually added for the PS4 version and is a Last Guardian reference, there are a couple of those in the remaster as well.

It's a strangely well put together world despite it being very loosely connected.

>the general state of the world
>HUGE ruins that were obviously pretty densely populated
I fucking... DIG this shit. It's probably 90% of the reason I enjoyed NieR: Automata and it definitely contributed to my love of SotC.

Ah. I wonder if The Last Guardian is as shit as I remember it - I played it once and uninstalled it and stuck it on the shelf and it has collected dust ever since.

Same, I explored in SotC for hours on end, getting outside of the map and all sorts of things. Its genuinely a very lovely experience despite there being nothing other than animals and fruits. Its really fascinating, especially when you come across the ICO rings/beach, the last guardian references, and just all the potential stuff of forgotten time, its really nice.
Its no SotC/ICO, but its not terrible, its an ok game considering the development hell and team breakup it went through.

Go back to your fortnite, user.

I've been playing high and that really helps with the pacing

>baddies

Games are art no matter what anyone says.

I feel like I ruined it for myself by playing on hard mode,
It doesn't make the game harder it just makes it far more annoying and extends the boss fights to the point of frustration and you started to see all the cracks in the gameplay like your wonky horse or trying to get the colossi to do something

Didn't give a fuck about the story after a while because the game was irritating me so much

best game ever made

it's not even a game. Its is just electronic art

Kino above all kino and will never be matched

Once you get used to it though you can see all the good in the game like slinging yourself dozens of feet in the air from a colossi swing onto their head and all sorts of wild shit.

Too bad the camera is hot garbage.

Man they had one job for the remake and STILL decided to go with the already fucking awful horse controls. Who the fuck greenlit that??

The music is so good.

This one is my favourite

>it's not even a game. Its is just electronic art
So a video game.

Agreed. Grabbed it for free through PS Plus. It's really fucking good.

Should I play on hard or normal for a first playthrough?

>baddies
but it is you who is bad

me

Careful user, the “soul” brigade is coming to tell you the remake is shit because it’s missing some animations and the lighting is minutely different.

Based. The story is pretty simple but the execution makes it my favourite story in the medium

>horse
Never had any trouble controlling the horse. Hell, it mostly controls itself.
>strafe
There's no point in the game that you need to strafe while firing an arrow.
>change control scheme bug
Just went over and tried this. You're outright wrong.
>empty world except fruit and lizards
Untrue
collectibles for a secret
the large empty map and clues you're given in dialogue and at a few locations lead you to what to do with said collectibles you seem unaware of
>sword swing
you can whack lizards or the bow your choice
>health bar
1 The game didnt come out in 2018
2 Theres nothing wrong with health bars
>4 hour length
A game of pong doesnt even last an hour
Shadow has various difficulties, time trials with rewards and a few hidden secrets
you either enjoy doing those things or you dont
if you dont then the issue isnt the game is a bad
the issue is you need to play games you like and stop bitching that games made for other tastes exist
>climbing controls
theyre functional and every command they teach you behaves as they taught it
the fuck do you want?

The horse one where you hide in the ruins to pop out and crawl up its back is my favorite design

I think the flying desert colossi is my favorite to play

the little colossi are probably the most challenging though

literally just a shitty 3D platformer with comfy aesthetics
is it art? absolutely
is it a good game? fuck no

after the 5th boss or so, you realize how shallow and repetitive the core gameplay is, which makes you either love the game due to its simplicity combined with its execllent atmosphere, or you end up hating it, due to valuing core gameplay over atmosphere

Attached: 1583345953556.jpg (302x354, 63.05K)

Each Colossi is a different puzzle. That alone is enough variety to make it worth seeing to the end. There's nothing else like it

Shadow of The Colossus is the epitome of what videogames should strive to be.
Everything it does, it does in such a way to embrace the medium it is made for. It doesn't tell you what to feel or what to think, you just interact and explore, and that's all it takes for it's themes to unfold. It takes the oldest trope in the book and twist it elegantly. If this is not on your top lists of best games, you have no sense of critiscism.

Galaxy brained post right here

SotC, Rain World, and Outer Wilds are the holy trinity of games with god tier narrative that could only be conveyed through the Video Game medium while also having fun and rewarding gameplay

still isn't fun though

Normal

I have fun playing it :)

no you don't

:(

What frustrates me about this game is that even once you understand how to defeat a Colossus, actually getting them to play the right animations is a pain in the ass. I.e. getting the third Colossus to position itself at the right distance to hit that metal plate. The worst I've seen so far was the fourth Colossus just straight up not playing the animation where he looks into the tunnel for like 30 attempts. Realizing how to beat him was easy, but getting him to do it was simply frustrating. After the 10th time I went into the tunnels, I actually thought my idea was wrong, so I checked out YT playthroughs and it turned out I was doing everything right. The attempt where he finally put his ass down so I could climb it was no different than the previous 30 attempts and to this day I don't know what exactly triggers that animation.

Boss rush the game is what you people are looking for

imagine not being able to immerse oneself in a game's narrative
a sad, shallow existence

I assume the ps4 version is still good even if it's different from the one on ps2/ps3? People complain without giving reasons

Yup. I've played all three versions and I personally like the PS4 version the most

You can unlock a shit ton of secret items by replaying it.

DUDE

Thanks I will play it without hesitation

The PS3 version has so much more shaking when he's on a colossus that it's near impossible to do some of the hard time attack challenges.
