FE4 is the perfect implementation of child units and timeskip should be the only reason they ever bring child units back again.
Awakening's implementation was cool, but it only works once. Use a plot point like that too much and it ruins it.
Fates should be taken out back and buried for the absolute garbage it tried.

It is very fun as a method of party building imo.
But it can feel very forced. Having universal S support availability makes the relationships feel shallow, especially when one of the parents then is forced into a generic conversation.
Three Houses did a good thing by making certain characters cap out at lower supports, or even having them be completely confrontational (Dedue/Felix for instance).

FE4 has the best plot implementation, but gameplaywise the children themselves are mostly overwhelmingly overpowered in a really easy game, and inheritance makes the game even easier.

Everyone likes the shipping but having to justify the kids fighting along with the adults is retarded. I wish actual S supports were back for anyone besides the MC, when they try to half ass it in 3H and make the A-ranks semi romantic it overlaps with multiple units so Ferdinand and Felix screw up your OTP and they become douchebag cheaters. Ced is actually the worst Forseti user because he breaks the game without it. Heck, his substitute Hawk borders on broken as well. The only drawback they really have is their lack of horses.
Best Forseti is Arthur because you get access to it earlier and you should have Arthur promoted and on a horse by the time you get to Ced anyway.

I thought they were going to be in 3 Houses because I heard of a time skip. If they were implemented like that I might like them.
In the end though I think they make the characters too shallow by adding too many of them. They also can't have unique supports with their fathers.
There's a proper way of implementing them, but I have 0 faith in ISIS doing it.

If they are as crucial to the plot as the parents like Genealogy then I do like them. That's in part why in the super-autistic fanfic/rewrite of Awakening I altered the child paralogues to be a part of the main plotline, and gave the child units roles to perform and subplots with enemy characters and the other NPCs besides their parents.

exactly this. Minmaxing stats for your favorites is one of the few reasons I play firememblem. FE4 handled them best but Awakening was fun. Fates bumbled them terribly, and I don't think any of them were popular or had any fan staying power besides Lucia.
