What do you think of former newgrounds animator and letsplayer Chris O'Neills' (aka OneyNG) 2d platformer game Bowlbo?

This was unironically Chris's least funny period, he was funnier before and funnier after.

Honestly impressed the guy who wasn't known for constantly talking about video games is the one to actually finish a video game on a scale as big as this while others can barely make it through alpha stages without being constantly distracted and losing interest.

For the talent behind this I think they found something pretty suitably efficient for actually getting something made rather than spending months trying to needlessly polish everything in the background.

These aren't people who are even attempting to push visual boundaries, they just found something that works to convey what needs to be conveyed.

Looks really unpolished. Textures look like "my first experiment with normals" tier. Movement looks boring, lacks a good sense of momentum, designs are hideous. Looks like fans will eat it up despite all of this.

just because a game looks unpolished doesn't mean it has a small scale. not as big as an AAA game, but the art, animations, music, sound effects, programming, and level design all take a fuckton of man hours.

Sure but not these resources specifically, that's the Hat in Time shader that comes default with Unity. Animations could be quality, have to see them up close, but the sound design is pretty bad even for a trailer where the only spoken line of dialogue is calling the player a pussy.

Plus, he only seems to work on the things he enjoys and employs people to help with all the stuff he'd rather not do. Instead of trying to do everything himself.

Jeff's art is so goddamn good.

How is this more fleshed out than Ding Dong and Julian's game that they've been working on for the past 500 years that is still in it's prototyping phase?

I don't think this game is anywhere near done. I think he just puts out content about this game every few months to keep interest going. I'd say this game isn't coming out till at least Q3 2021 at the earliest.
