Most fantasy races are only a small step from humans in terms of physical appearance and abilities. When they do have truly different abilities, they tend to be more magical and abstract.
Animals, on the other hand, are extremely different and have neat traits that are grounded by default, and those traits don't have to be removed even if you make them more humanoid.
So if you want to have the attributes of those cool ass creatures you read about in your zoobooks but still want to be able to do all the cool shit humans can do too, beast warrior races are the way to go.
