tf2 was shit as soon as it added hats

Gabe N. The N stands for Negroes.

I mean he's right, VR is the next step for gaming, so much so that in 50 years people will look back at traditional controller/MKB+display gaming as a laughable, primitive relic. Unfortunately VR is a fair while from being both affordable and good.

Dude is a master of click bait. Click for bits of news. Instead get autistic bullshit that skates around the definition of his title for 20 minutes.

That's a pretty big dick move. I'm still waiting for VR to get better but that's bold and I respect it.

Based sexpat GabeN

When you go from making videogames to owning factories that make the worlds best VR headsets after being latest in the scene to make them i'd say you can start swingin' like gaben is

He's right. I'm typing this with my mind from the future

>all new games from a dead company that hasn't made a game in 8 years will be VR

Why should anyone care again? They're not relevant anymore, they're just a storefront. This is like Wal-Mart saying all movies should be 3D

>being latest in the scene to make them
they are the only reason VR happened. their R&D ca. 2012-2014 is what established the requirements for 'sustained presence', that this entire VR resurgence is built on (=~80hz refresh rate, >=~80 degree diagonal FOV, sub-millimeter precision 6DOF tracked). they were only forced to partner with HTC to push out the Vive to meet Facebook at market after getting betrayed and blindsided by the Oculus acquisition and Facebook rushing that shitty prototype tech (significantly stolen from them and Zenimax) to market. If Facebook Oculus hadn't happened everything would have played out totally differently, Valve might've never made their own end-user hardware and just licensed their tech out to various different mfgs, or else would have gone directly to making their own probably in ~2018.

no one gives valve enough shit for basically inventing lootboxes

where have you been the past 3 months?

Attached: dims.jpg (1600x1000, 288.77K)

Nope. Not until we can jack ourselves into the matrix. VR as it is now is still the same basic stupid concept just like 30 years ago with the virtual boy and other shitty attempts.

playing real games, not half-assed theme park rides

>hasn't made a game in 8 years
>literally is making a game to release this month
>thats not a REEAL gaame!!!

GayBin is fighting the urge

What are you trying to say? They still haven't made a game in 8 years.

My point was they're out of touch and have ruined any hype about Half-Life 3 with this scripted narrow tech demo

if Alyx is a "theme park ride" HL2 also is

>haven't made a game in 8 years.
>tech demo
i dont even know why im replying to you at this point

I don't know either considering you've made absolutely 0 arguments

We've been stuck waiting for HL3 for a long time.
Maybe its time to abandon valve and start supporting a real video game developer.

>real video game developer.
they don't exist anymore, they're all just profit extraction machines now. Except for indie devs, but you'll just disregard them tranny discord pixelshit anyways

Damn right I will. Nobody gives a fuck about "dark souls of X" with 8bit pixel graphics/unity default assets.

fat man

Alright, have fun playing AAA bullshit while complaining nonstop then

Stupid mindset. With how pixel perfect and precise mouse aiming is it will be a very very long time until something better comes along, if ever. Motion controls for one will never surpass it simply because your hand fidgets and shakes subconsciously even slightly and just the smallest mistake will fuck up your aiming. It will always be fine for fun games and single player/story driven games (or even for immersion purposes) but the idea of it surpassing mouse aiming in terms of it just being generally better will never happen, especially for multiplayer games. Unless people figure out how to control aiming with your mind, which at that point it will just be busted because every one can just think "ok I'm aiming it at his head" and get headshots 24/7.

That's correct. At least HL2 doesn't have dumbed-down enemies who require no actual skill to kill, every Alyx clip i see just looks like someone going through the motions

People seem to forget what is the purpose of technology, simplicity has always been the aim of research, gamepads were invented to avoid having a dozen of buttons on a keyboard and mouse, this whole "MOVE YOUR ARMS AND FINGERS TO PUSH A BUTTON" is cool but it is a gimmick and it will never become a standard, it will always be a niche control scheme. I'm looking forward to seeing where VR goes next, but right now it is not worth investing on it.

And that's exactly why VR must flop and fail. VR is less of a gimmick and more of a cancerous tumor that must be exterminated.

dont be dense. compare the printing press to a typewriter, and compare a typewriter to a keyboard
literally no matter the scenario, people will always look back and consider the last few stages primitive, thats literally what development is

>All of the sour grapes itt
Just because you're poor doesn't mean that you should fight against the future. I can't wait to order the Index on monday.

Mouse and keyboard allows for trillions of features that VR simply cannot utilize in any form or shape, such as fast-paced Doom style gameplay and jumping.

In multiplayer games, all of the player have to deal with the same stuff. More complexity in the aiming controls that causes the problems you described also means a greater potential gap between the skill floor and ceiling. Challenge that comes entirely from your own coordination and body rather than hardware limitations are a good thing.

>praised by the pcmr
>just for gaben to shit on them
kek

But user... you can wave your hands in front of your face!!! It's revolutionary!!!

>don't be dense
>he says this while comparing VR to a machine that revolutionized everyday life
VR is only a controller scheme, it may have a better chance on a different mediums, it's not the first time a more "immersive" controller has been created, racing wheels are a clear example, VR is a sidegrade, nothing else.

I hope you have a good time with your vr user

>I can't wait to order the Index on monday.
GL with that user

This is the same rationale that led people to believe the Wii would kill ordinary controllers. Gabe is probably going as senile as Miyamoto

>Half Life 1 was a tech demo that completely changed the gaming industry
>Half Life 2 was a tech demo that completely changed the gaming industry
>Half Life: Alyx (3) is an upcoming tech demo that Yas Forums predicts will fail
Yas Forums has never been right. I might buy a vr headset now.

VR indie scene is an awful shitshow. If it's the same for rest of gaming then it's doomed.

Thank you mate, I can only afford it because I won 1100 gambling last month. If it's shite you'd better believe I'll let all of you know.

How do I know if VR is worth the money? I don't think there's any way to try it here

They weren't pulling any punches with 1 and 2.
Alyx? "Comfort" options, game built around them, no multiplayer, no modding

I'm very used to achieving my goals within 10 seconds user, just ask those four fat hogs that I've slept with.

Can't wait for Gabe Newell to get a heart attack so that a competent CEO can replace him and cancel all development on VR.

Only to a degree, though. If getting good at vidya required strength, flexibility, and endurane, then what's the difference between a gamers and athletes?

good thing return policies are great now so if it's not what you expected you can always get a refund

He also said he doesn't care if something flops, which I guess it doesn't matter when you're rich and just doing video games as a lark. Kind of disappointing since it means we'll never see half life 3.

>comfort options
This is to reduce motion sickness. If they're going to make VR work they can't have the flagship title make normies vomit.

>this whole "MOVE YOUR ARMS AND FINGERS TO PUSH A BUTTON" is cool but it is a gimmick and it will never become a standard
It already is. It's just not the same as traditional gaming. The real problem you're observing, but not completely comprehending, is the question of how traditional gaming will mutate after HMDs start really taking over as the default display devices of choice (which will be happening SOON™).

I don't follow? They're still playing a game, it's not even something "real" like paintball.

Attached: 1583616112010.jpg (1000x1000, 297.08K)

>refund
Mate if I don't like it I'll be selling it for double on ebay. It's a win win situation.

>that VR simply cannot utilize in any form or shape
You say this, but I've played these games that shouldn't exist and they work well. Laser pointer aiming works well of the pace is intended to be to fast for aiming down sights. You should also not underestimate how much more intuitive it is to point at something compared to moving a mouse cursor over it. At the range Doom is played, you could likely have good accuracy just from pointing and hip firing. The idea that you have to move slowly and can't jump is just something Yas Forums made up and gets people to repeat.

if that's the case where the fuck is my ricochet 2
