It's one of those logical versus emotional things. Sonic is acting out of emotion here because if Mario is enlisting all his resources to help him out, he can at least do the same for this one side quest. Shadow is raw logic in that scene though, even if Peach were to die that's just one princess. They haven't gotten even one clean victory over Metal yet. Metal should be priority number 1 or else everyone dies. But people tend not to respond well to raw logic and it just made Shadow come off as an asshole. Mostly because he is an asshole.

Well it's not stopping every three seconds as a means of compensating for not actually being able to balance action across multiple conflicts, and disrespecting the intelligence of the audience with its obsession with jamming in greater meaning behind the actions of characters that could be inferred without the use of narration. Or jamming in greater meaning behind the actions of others by stopping everything to have the narrator tell you how they're now a developed character. Only to, in the end, leave some aspects of the story underdeveloped. All for the sake of challenging narrative convention by turning tell into your show, without the talent to really understand why those kinds of storytelling tools exist in the first place. So yeah it's probably a little better than being a half-baked novelty at best.

Swords and blades are cool and all but they only really work in extremely fictional scenarious. Even in anime, swords are only used to hit non humans and robots. Otherwise, people are treated like bloodbags with no bones or organs when cut by swords. In sprite fights, swords work like blunt objects most of the time. You saw in this fight.
