Unfortunately, yes. It’s easy to use and normie-friendly, so my friends set up a little server for our group. Personally I fucking hate Discord and I’d prefer if we just used irc or something but my friends are all normies who refuse to use anything else. the problem is, except for a very small minority of privacy autists from here, no one is going to use that over discord in 2020, sadly. if you want to make friends through games naturally, and stay in contact off the game, you'll have to settle for discord. I would love to use alternatives like those, but literally no one I asked so far knew what signal is.

On discord yeah, in real life I'm plenty content with my friends. It seems unnecessarily difficult to just have friends online. No one's willing to just chat on occasion. It's either someone always wanting to talk to you 24/7 spamming you with messages, or someone who has no interest in talking to you at all but craves being a friend collector.

Fuck no, I talk to my normal friends and just post vidya and anime songs to the one server I'm part of.

I use it as Yas Forums Part 2. Mostly joke posting, small conversations, and reading general info and recommendations for games, anime, manga, and movies. The main differences besides format between Yas Forums and Discord for me is that conversations can be better tracked and are more in-depth since there are usernames.
