Just finished Halo 1's remake and I still don't understand. What's so great about this game?

It's eeeehh....yeah...c-controller...fps..on consoles...for the first time? I think...

Marty O'Donnel.

Great soundtrack
Fun co-op singleplayer
First console shooter to not have ass controls

>slow movement
>no movement mechanics
>slow enemies
>no weapon mechanics
It's a game designed to be played with controllers using K&M. What the fuck did you expect? Like Destiny 2, it's fucking dull. Bungie have no fucking clue how to make a game. Neither do 343 before you say shit

it was the first FPS for a lot of people, people who also currently browse Yas Forums

The AI is fun to fight.

It's a product of its time

This. The ia in legendary for the elites likes to plays with you while you try to headshot them

wait for 2
>slow enemies
they're the closest thing to Unreal enemies in terms of bobbing and weaving and shifting about
Most boomer games have slow as fuck and easily avoidable baddies and then everything else are just towel-heads that stand behind cover
The enemies are faster and more nimble than Doom1&2, Fear and halflife enemies. Just to name a few game's Yas Forums likes to circle jerk

it's fun and doesn't take itself too seriously
good atmosphere and music
approachable gameplay for newfags to the game and also console players, but still a skill ceiling so that people can be better than one another
cool campaign levels, mostly cool MP maps

You were supposed to play co-op on legendary with your friend

>enemy strafes every 15 seconds
WHOA SLOW DOWN THERE

>played on easy mode
How long have you been writing for kotaku?

Campaign

There were games before 7th gen consoles zoomer.

It was a lot of babies first FPS

Grunts and Jackals always push on you, going as a group to try and overrun you.

Blue Elites bob and weave nonstop firing at you, and charge if you get too close and usually berserk after losing their shields. Reds almost always try to grab cover, especially if there’s allies about and wait for their shields to recharge before they re-engage. You can rarely sit in cover indefinitely, enemies remember where you were and make use of suppressing fire, and grunts frequently throw grenades necessitating you bob and weave yourself.

Finished CE on Legendary while fucking your mom, kid. Game is controlershit and its embarasing you think its impressive.

Fire rate of enemies is tied to framerate so Jackals currently are machine gun snipers with their plasma pistols and they’re tearing me a new asshole on legendary.

A world you wanted to explore from the second you look up at the ring going all the way around and it didn't feel restricted by hallways (the intro teases you about this). A nice variety of weapons even by today's standards. The AI is good. Not great but good. Until that point there weren't many dedicated shooters that had vehicles and when they did the controls were dogshit. Halo isn't perfect on any measure but it did a lot of things well and it brought ideas together that nobody else was at the time. Plus it's the closest rip off of Aliens ever made (not licensed games obviously) and that added to the charm back then.

Master Chief's a pretty cool guy. Cute how a lot of people still cosplay as him no matter the game.

It was the first console fps that comfortable to play with a gamepad. That's about it.

>remake

what's babies 2nd fps

Campaign

2>1>3>Reach>ODST

MP

1>2>3>Reach

is it though? they fire fucking fast on the og pc version as well when you play on legendary

The campaign

My 7 year old neise can't play FPS games but can play this game, my 22 year old brother can play FPS games really well but still struggles with this game, the gameplay is balanced

For someone who has never played ANY of the Halo games, where do I start with all that is available on Steam?

I think it was a good mix of everything. Good story, good soundtrack, serviceable combat mechanics and the characters were cool. Halo Reach sucked donkey balls tho, grindy, dull campaign, DMR is a default weapon (should be a power weapon) and it's just not Halo. Could tell bungie were losing heart after reach.

Play it in classical. I've been switching between the two and the remastered edition, while being remastered naturally has better graphics, classical just has more soul.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

seems like they're releasing the MCC on PC in chronological order, so if you want to follow that then play Reach first and Combat Evolved second
if you want to play release order you'll have to wait a while for the other games to be released since that order is CE -> 2 -> 3 -> ODST -> Reach -> 4 (don't play 4 though)

How do you use this thing on higher Heroic and Legendary? Seems pretty useless compared to other options, which is a real shame as its one of my favorite designs.

You dont. Pistol + plasmapistol or needler when you run out of plasmapistol is the way to go. AR will become useful again when flood is introduced, then you can use AR + whatever you want basically, though you will need something vs elites.

anniversary looks like it was made by fakefactory

>remake
It's a REMASTER, for fuck's sake. A remake is an entirely different thing.

Attached: What in the goddamn fuck.jpg (1024x576, 36.05K)

like the other user said, you dont use it unless you dont have other option. Although it works pretty well with the plasma pistol to gundown elites in a rush

I think it mostly has to do with skyboxes.

Attached: fyZ1OHR.jpg (1680x1050, 173.08K)

Yeah, they don’t fire that fast on Xbox.

The answer is consoles, half life came out 3 years before and it's a superior game

Remaster implies there were improvements made and yet here we are

You can rush and kill an elite with it + some melee so you can get their plasma rifle and have an actually good gun.

dude, they really fucked up the beginning desert area of truth and reconciliation, i agree 100%, but the rest of the game looks really nice. of course there are some stuff thats missing, like the turqoise lights in the assault to control room tunnels where you drive your tank and some other stuff like that. also they toned down the blood in some areas and bullet holes don't show on the ground

>117

oh, damn. well it gives me extra e penis cred for pulling through alive

TIGHT
CONTROLLED
BURSTS

>wait for 2
Thats what you said about Reach

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice fuck you

And the greener grass

>but the rest of the game looks really nice.
come back to me after you get to guilty spark

You ditch it for the first thing your eyes even glance at

You lower the difficulty. Gun is a fucking peashooter on legendary difficulty.

>just play with shittier graphics bro

Yeah it doesn't look like a remake.

Attached: Halo.jpg (1920x2160, 870.91K)

3 > CE > 2 > 4 > 5

All human weapons except the rocket launcher are. Even the pistol takes forever to kill Elites, and it takes two sniper shots to kill Reds, three if you don’t get a headshot. Even jackals won’t die in body shots from it.

>not just meleeing everything

This is literally soul vs souless

i am at Keyes at the moment. They could have used more shadows and whatnot, but for me atleast it was an improvement overall

Yeah. Legendary doubles the health of all enemies, turning them into real bullet sponges. This makes PP+Magnum even more unbalanced compared to other comboes because one strips shields in one shot and headshots are now mandatory instead of optional. Shame too, as I really like the increased enemy numbers on Legendary.

I know the feeling, it's like using shit to see the point of it. The fact is there is no point in the AR. Bungie really messed up on the damage the guns deal in my opinion. It's so inconsistent. The pistol outshines a rifle, a needler is just broken, but the mounted turrets deal terrible damage.

Did you not read what I said? Yes while it is remastered ergo has better graphics there isn't as much soul. It's like saying GTA Vs map is better than that of SA because it's bigger and has more detail, when in reality it's bland

>getting butthurt over the different meanings of remake and remaster.
easy there autismo, they're both essentially the same concept. Both are money grubbing schemes designed to tug on nostalgia for a quick buck.

Attached: download.jpg (474x474, 46.99K)

No pc splitscreen

Attached: 1572666812072.jpg (437x478, 45.65K)

>isnt much soul
no, it's just because you played Halo 1 first before the anniversary edtion so you like what you're more familar with. Thats the real reason. I havent play them at all.

>i-it's just s-s-soul bro

I mean you can still just pew pew them down with regular plasma pistol shots. It drops Blue shields in like three or four hits and stunlocks all Elites if you keep up the fire immediately after their shields drop.

They did this because they wanted to bully people into buying more xboxes and copies rather than using one copy

Is it just me, because I can't stand games with bullet sponge enemies. I just can't stand whaling on an enemy with everything just to kill them, it gets so tedious and just makes you want to run past the enemies.

Based

GTA V's map is better though.

And then the needler was all over the place in damage in later games
