Where does this meme about teenagers fighting good being a trope come from? There are barely any games like that, I would even say it's still a rare and novelty thing among JRPGs.

I have, but it sounds like you haven't.
I've played FF4, 6, 10, 12, and 13 and the "power of friendship" is never treated as anything more significant than teamwork in those games.

By that logic nothing is bad then and only execution matters. Atlus games are all garbage. In SMT, entire worlds get wiped and important characters die but the player feels nothing because they're one-dimensional, cardboard no-personality having trash. But the stories are often more unique than the traditional rpg. In Persona, characters actually exchange meaningful actions and dialogue (and most aren't just stoic cardboard) more often and the whole experience is more intimate. But the stories aren't as unique as SMT's. That's why it's hilarious when pseuds argue one is better than the other. Fatlus games are entry level shit when it comes to the genre.

alright, i'll admit i never finished 4 because my save battery died. but i've beaten the rest of the ones i've listed. and one or two examples from 30 years ago isn't proof of a major genre trend.
