Will we ever get games with real choice and long-stretching consequences or are we stuck with WalkingDeads and illusion of one?

Is it just money problem? Content customer cant see is a wasted one.

Until there is AI that can literally create a world as you play, no, it will never happen.

Each choice you add to the branch EXPONENTIALLY increases the content you need to create.

But if AI will be that sophisticated enough then wouldnt be akin to having human slave working his ass 24/7 as Dungeon Master?

The quanticdream "games" have plenty endings
Otherwise just play tabletop rpgs

>The quanticdream "games" have plenty endings
still illusion, they arent that much drastically different
That being said shitty writing is what plagues their games tho

Roguelikes have existed for a very long time newfriend.

undertale, until dawn, fallout 1 & 2 & new vegas, arcanum, princess maker

Random generated piece of trash? Just because on my new game I get a different layout of the dungeon with 3 branches into 3 rooms instead of 2 - does not make it a choice with consequences

You mean EVE Online?

>play walking dead
>your choices matter!
>encounter bonnie again in episode 2
>pick every choice to not forgive her and don't trust her at all
>clem forgives her anyway
>everyone's face when she betrays Clem again

Fucking game. No wonder they went under.

People don't actually want this because every time they get it, they complain about missing content and look up the best choices online

Except the choices you make when playing a true roguelike cannot be changed or taken back after you make them. Your choices are long lasting and stick until you start a new game. So it's literally what you're asking for and it has existed for about 50 years.

I'm sorry but picking up gun1 instead f gun2 is not something I consider a "choice with long-lasting consequences that affects storyline"

Detroit Become Human did pull off choices and consequences pretty well. The ending you get depends on your choices throughout the game.

OP is stupid, but you're borderline retarded.

VN?

And that was the most ''''free''' game of that shitty company

Why the fuck wasn't this game translated for the west asap? It's expensive as fuck, untranslated, and surely it's not that big
It could have nearly reached DDLC status

Pathologic

It is translated

Seconding this OP
If you want a game about choosing tough choices in shitty situations that will affect the world then look no furth than Pathologic 2.

No it ain't. Releasing in may

Yes? US version releasing in may, almost 1.5 years after the original;

I read a long time ago you have to make the absolute most horrible decisions to get to this ending

Dont underestimate the degeneracy of animebrainrot gaymers

It comes out this May. JAST always takes aeons to release anything, just like most of the English VN industry.
Also it is a pretty big game, JP version took me around 60 hours using a guide and skipping voices some times. Would be a bit faster in English since I didn't have to think as much, but I'd estimate it'd still be like 40h even then

Tyranny is pretty good. Game branches into two different paths right at the start, and has lots of little changes based on choices.

In Divinity Original Sin 2 I literally killed my entire party siding with The Doctor. He became the God of Darkness, and my character became the weaker God of Light. There always to fall and give way to Darkness in an endless struggle between gods. I really liked that ending. That game does not really have a main character though, you are seeing everyone's story, it can be confusing at times.

Telltale Batman games are decent. In the first one you can completely change the twoface origin story. Having him be totally normal. Or you can, through choices, have him get his original two-face. And through more choices, you can have him get his original outfit as well.

In season two episode 5 branches into two completely different games. First time I have seen telltale do this, but man I love the Batman games.

Dragon Age Origins has some really different endings, and every character gets an origin story. The choices carry over through 3 games in sometimes meaningful ways, but it is rare at times and EA owns them so there's that. You can get every single one of them on Origin for free with all DLC if you have their 15$ membership prime thing.

Detroit has a lot of paths. Can't really pirate it tho.

Choice of Robots is a pretty fun novel, text type game. But it's really good. I have replayed it many times and it can be so different but you can see the seams for sure.

No? That's just the end of the first act of three. The game pretty much railroads you towards it and you can't really avoid it unless you are okay only experiencing like a tenth of the game and quit after doing your first route.

has NTR in it dont bother.

>60 hours using a guide
What the shit were you doing? I beat it in one weekend without a guide, and did all the endings too.

The choices in Witcher determine which quests you'll play and even which entire areas you might see or not.

There is no way you beat it without a guide, it's straight up not possible since you'd need the original JP Box for hints on how to escape the loop.

The witcher is the illusion of choice but it's decent. I like that you can end the second game without fighting the boss, really, really cool. But the 3rd game is like 3 choices spread throughout the entire game. It's bigger and cleaner, but the branching story is not really there. A few things can change, and who is in the final battle can change, but only like 1 or two things and you would not even notice them on another playthrough.

Huh, I thought this was the very end of the game and was tough route to naturally go down
That's pretty lame

You can't have the planning of real choice and long lasting consequences AND a very dynamic story ,told in a conventional way in a single player game (yet, maybe)
You should play randomly generated games like Dwarf fortress or play with other people in role playing game and tabletop if you want that kind of dynamism, where the director can adapt on the fly

Well I mean I did have a readme file with the game that had all the possible phone numbers, but I don't really count that as using a guide. That's like saying that checking Meryl's codec number online when you don't have the original MGS case would be using a guide.
Then again besides the phone numbers, it's not like you'd even need a guide for the game anyway, since it's mostly linear, and you can't even use a guide for the most complex part of the game.

You can literally get her killed if you just ignore her advice to save Luke and let the timer run out. She tries to save Luke and drowns in the lake. Where she belongs.

It's the end of the setup arc pretty much, after that most of the game is about her trapping (You) in a time loop that you have to search for a way to break, has lots of different mechanics, some meta, some not, and a boatload of meta commentary on eroge/ galge.

Maybe I'm underestimating just how much slower I was with my shoddy Japanese, dunno. It's definitely not something most people are going to knock out in a single sitting though, there's plenty of meat to it.

Aw fuck I didn't know this

Yeah I definitely didn't beat it in one sitting. I began it on a friday night and ended it on monday morning, but I definitely took breaks for sleep and eating and other biological needs in-between. So maybe that 40 hours of yours is pretty on-point for the average English reader for the eventual translation.

Oh I see now.
Always thought this was just a normal eroge that had a crazy secret spooky ending when that scene used to get posted a lot before there were proper translations.

>has NTR in it
Not him but god fucking dammit. Thanks for the warning, though.

Attached: 1569904556919.png (1024x719, 806.46K)

It's not really NTR though, it's more like half-NTR.

>Tyranny is pretty good.

In Disco Elysium you can choose the fate of many characters and how a shitty little slum ends up being.

There's a reason why Yas Forums ended up liking the game even though on a surface level it had the red alerts of a shitty pretensious indie game. The main character is a schizo that has different "ideas" in his head trying to change how he acts and thinks in the real world while discussing political philosophy, sometimes you can get sidetracked by these ideas and go off-topic when playing the game. It's literally Yas Forums personified as a game.

Attached: v_in_a_nutshell.png (1608x1224, 230.15K)

>half-NTR
I know I won't like the explanation but, mind telling me what you mean by that?

Attached: 1583294756105.gif (300x168, 284.51K)

He is basically sayin "just the tip does not count"
half-faggot isnt faggot

The only games with real choices are intrinsically narrative light with room for your imagination to take over. VNs, RPGs, and the like will always basically press A for Route A and press B for Route B with more effort spent trying to conceal that from you than anything else.

> if AI will be that sophisticated enough then wouldnt be akin to having human slave working his ass 24/7 as Dungeon Master?
Why do people always equate a sophisticated AI with a conscious AI? A complex software that can run dynamic content creation in something like nowadays RPGs is still by orders of magnitude lower than a full blown true AI.
The probability of creating a conscious artificial mind by accident, before we have cracked the nature of our own consciousness, is highly unlikely. But if know what consciousness is then why would we put it into an AI?

the girl who "NTRs" you doesn't do it because she doesn't love (You) or that she finds some big dick nigger named Michael who can fulfill all her sexual needs that (You) never could, she has a kind of an illness that makes her die if she doesn't fuck other men, she does it only because of her health, she truly only loves (You)

There is already an AI that can branch you in the story, see AI dungeon.
it's boring shit and you drop in after a hour or two.

I want something akin to human writer/master. Does not matter how great ou train neural net it will never compare. Slightest mistake will spoil everything

that sounds like an excuse

That just makes it even shittier

How the fuck do Japs come up with these concepts?

It seriously makes some kind of sense in context, I just don't want to spoil it too much because it's meta and shit.

This is even worse.
Rather than being NTRed by the woman, the player character is NTRed by fate.

Actual spoilers that might or might not ruin the game for you: It's been a while, but the gist of it is that the pink haired slut with the dead eyes has the conceptual existence of a nukige heroine forced on her and as such can't help herself but have sex constantly. If she doesn't fuck people every chance she gets she will literally cease to exist since she wouldn't be a nukige heroine anymore. She fucking hates it and actually is madly in love with the protagonist, but really has no choice in the matter.

I'm never gonna play the game you know
just tell me one thing then, why does she specifically have to fuck other men? Why can't she just repeatedly fuck the same man over and over, aka her lover?

Are the "other" guys different instances of MC/other people that play the same game?

>Tyranny
>Good

I KNEW IT, I FUCKING KNEW I WOULD NOT LIKE THE EXPLANATION, WHY DID I ASK FOR IT.
COSMIC NTR.

Attached: mwyzkUS.jpg (800x450, 71.49K)

what the fuck

Attached: 1512732711053.png (211x239, 5.59K)

I.e. the author’s shitty fetish, same as any other NTRshit.
I think it’s driven by the need to have an “explanation” for everything, even if that explanation is shoddy. Like those blackmail hentai where the girl let’s some ugly bastard knock her up simply because he has a picture of her in the shower.

I mean, it's meta fiction, characters that personify certain concepts and tropes are par for the course.

>undertale
Two routes and one of them is intentionally dogshit. "Neutral" doesn't even count and is tantamount to ending the game early.

>WHY DID I ASK FOR IT.
your desire to know more override the fact he said it was N T R

The best part is that the part in the OP takes place after the girl in the OP finds (You) and the NTR girl after the NTR girl has had sex with (You)r classmate's trap brother (the act ended with (You) licking the trap's jizz out of the NTR girl's pussy), so the OP girl goes crazy and kills you both with a baseball bat

wat

At least give me an argument.

>after the girl in the OP finds (You) and the NTR girl after the NTR girl has had sex with (You)r classmate's trap brother (the act ended with (You) licking the trap's jizz out of the NTR girl's pussy)
Being killed with a baseball bat sounds like a fucking godsend after that shit.

>It could have nearly reached DDLC status
No, it couldn't have. DDLC became a meme because it was short, free and the meta was its entire schtick. The average pleb could download it, invest a few hours and be entertained by a very simple concept their little pleb minds hadn't fathomed before.
They're not going to play a lengthy eroge they have to pay for just for a bit of 4th wall breaking.

Can you just spoil the entire story for me because this sounds fucking wild and I will never play it anyways

Exactly. Back at uni I worked with guys doing procedural narrative generation and they would call it 'uncanny death valley' because there's so many variables in language that alerts the person to something being amiss.

NTR'ed by fate and the women is the worst feeling.
