Lost Planet 2

For the few of us that miss the game, today there's going to be a pvp multiplayer session on LP2 PC, if anyone wants to join it the first round should be starting soon (player match).

isn't online on pc dead because games for windows?

Absolutely not. All online functions work through GFWL is all. If you're having an issue getting set up there's many online guides that can help.

It's dead because the game is almost 10 years old, other than that it still works

there's always someone playing campaign but for MP it's harder to organize.

Here's the event for the mutliplayer.

Bumping because I love this game

Wish that it wasn't 1am, otherwise I'd join you.
Also, brb disabling my extraneous CPU cores.

We're going to play till 8PM EST so you can join tomorrow morning
This thread will probably be gone by that time but you can ask in the discord discord.gg/EpJ43E

Yeah that timezone is going to kill me, still, I'll see if I can join in.

Why did they have to murder this series?

Hence why I'm making this a 12 hour affair. I'd like to get as many people to join whenever they can. The next appointed time in 12:30pm EST. We're still going right now if anybody else would like to join.

Dark times for Capcom but at least the mtchmaking servers are still up for all the platforms so we can organize small revivals like this.

C'mon Yas Forums show LP some love

This morning's multiplayer is finished. Another room will be up at 12:30pm EST.

Don't feel like playing right now, but I'll give it a bump. Great game, wish it got a proper sequel and expanded on 2's gameplay

No worries we're on a break right now, if you feel like it you can come by later in the day
we're trying to revive the game for what little is possible so there will be also be more sessions in the future.

Piloting this thing with two others is one of the best feelings in video games!

For me solo VSs are still the best, I can't give up dashing around

Trilids feel like the predecessor to MHW's omenflies. I wonder if they did it on purpose.

Is lost planet a good series? I love capcom but never played these. Not interested in multiplayer, just single player.

LP1 and LP2 felt like JapJank to me.
Let's not talk about LP3.

It depends a lot on tastes. Like says it might feel like jank, but once you get the flow there's nothing else like it.
I particularly like LP1 for it's abundance of options on how to approach a mission, from finding hidden weapons to stealing enemy mechs you can approach it any way you want and the hardest difficulty is challenging but fair with a focus on speed and level knowledge (your "life" depletes over time and you need to kill enemies to refill it).
2 tries to be too many things and ends up as a worse game than the first, but the coop campaign makes up for it with unique setpieces that maintain the formula of "approach it like you want" and expand upon it with coordination among players.

1st game is more of a single player survival shooter so there's quite a bit of action to it. 2 on the other hand is all about the action and frequently encouraged and built around the idea that you play it with others, even in the campaign. LP3 is the black sheep of the trilogy, ditches the atmospheres of the first two games for a by the numbers checklist of a 'horror' shooter in the similar vein of Dead Space. Even has its own brand of cult/space hippies.

There's also a spin off on 3DS, but from what I heard it didn't sell that well nor do I know much about it. Though apparently after all these years some people have gotten around to giving it a fan translation.

EX Troopers is enjoyable but not particularly memorable. It's a "my first shooter" type of game and doesn't have open levels, just segmented arenas. I think it also had some kind of rpg system for the weapons but mostly stuff to increase damage as you progress.

It also came out on PS3 with online multiplayer, I imagine most people played it there, especially due to 3DS's region lock.

Biggest flaw of EXT was that you couldn't pilot VSs other than the main character's. Enemies had all kind of cool custom units and you were stuck with this.

Had forgotten there was a PS3 version. Probably would've had a chance stateside if people actually cared for Lost Planet. Honestly it makes me feel blessed we got Tatsunoko vs Capcom of all games internationally.

I'm not sure if it was true as they came up with a fan translation anyway, but the reason given at the time for the lack of western release was that some (maybe the cutscenes?) of the text was hardcoded in images, meaning that they never really had intention of releasing it. If not for MH's growing popularity, Stories would've gone the same way for sure.

Just noticed that you can play with the combined VS in mp, pretty cool. Always felt like a waste to have it avaiable in only one mission.

All right team, listen up.
Your target is the Lost Planet thread.
Once inside, your objective is the help the locals keep the thread off of page 10. Keep this up until the thread hits bump limit.
There's no second chances here. If the thread gets archived, it's over.
Move out.

Some really old LP tech. When it comes to gameplay Capcom is really the best.

imagine edf meets monster hunter but on a smaller scale and with more linearity.

We're going to start a new MP session soon if anyone wants to join.

Lost Planet is a reason to live.

do you guys play on controller? the mouse sensitivity seems to be all fucked up

I'm a console player so I've never got used to mouse+kb but I think there's people playing with it as their aim is too accurate, most likely modified the settings though.

>game used to work fine
>finally upgrade my PC
>game crashes on startup apparently cuz my cpu is too good
>too scared to underclock cuz i might fuck something up

Imagine CAPCOM having an event quest with MHW followed by a revival of the series.

Lost Planet 1 and 2 had no right to be as good as they were, something just worked perfectly and there you go. Shame about 3. Shame about 2 getting a shit port and being DOA thanks to GFWL.

Thanks to everybody who participated in the 12:30 session! Another room will be hosted at 3:30.

There's a way around the mouse sensitivity for mouse and keyboard. Though I use an XBox controller since I'm used it when playing TPS.

We just hit concurrent 5 players! With Rocket Launchers as default weapons it felt like a LPC match, great stuff!

oh shit there's an extreme condition match rn?

I couldn't beat the lp1 final boss on hard :(

We were on LP2 sorry, I'm spamming a mix of images. I'd like to play Colonies too but for some reason it crashes after a few minutes with a memory override error or something like that.

>we were on LP2
FUCK

Lost Planet's multiplayer is something I'd like to get going at some point, but right now we're just focusing in 2.

Finally unlocked best faction's looks

There's a Steam group that I think sometimes plays LPC, they don't seem really active but just the other week had a "yearly" akrid hunter session, although there were just 3-4 people.

Still, gotta start from somewhere. As long as we keep talking about it, more people will join.

A reminder for those interested in joining : we're organizing through a Yas Forums discord server, if you're interested but are unable to join today you can catch up another time

>LPC
FUCK
I ONLY HAVE EC

I'm sure there's someone that plays it but with less modes and no crossplay it's harder to find games.
You should grab it when it goes on sale, both boss rush mode and weapon/map/modes addition are worth it.
