most vehicles are designed to crumple these days, generally everything but the engine block is made of extremely flimsy material. generally, it's supposed to crumple in a way that distributes debris (like the steering column, which used to impale people all the time) down and under the driver. But driving into a stopped truck at full speed? Not much you can do, design-wise, to stop someone from getting pasted in that scenario. Not without building it like a nasa escape capsule
