Why was it so fucking good?
Why was it so fucking good?
I don't think there's a single game that suffers as much from ludonarrative dissonance as this game
Fun but shallow third person shooter in an interesting setting and a 2deep4u narative.
I dont get why people keep jacking off to this game.
Because it is one of the few games that can truly be considerd art
Even if that's true, what's so worthwhile about bad art?
Art is subjective, I'm sorry that you didn't like it
>game railroads you
>"what the fuck, I don't want to drop the white phosphorus on these people, there's no need"
>game forces you too
>WOW WALKER YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING IT'S YOUR FAULT
>press: THIS GAME IS AMAZING FUCK GAMERS
...we truly...need to rise...up
I have never played a game that has offended me nearly as much as this one. It's however many years later and I'm still seething.
I appreciate the innovation a little bit more than the result
Unfortunately, not as many games build off of it as I would like
>Game starts
>You're a soldier
>wtf I didn't want to be a soldier why can't I be in finance or something.
I hate linear campaign design
game sucked
why would i feel bad about that? im just playing a game with a compelling story
i never once felt bad about the actions in the game
i did however feel bad about shooting that one civilian ho.. im sure those who have actually played the game know who im talking about
This is the same argument that's made for why Fallout 4 isn't an RPG
>Game starts
>Am father and husband ex-soldier
>WTF I wanted to be a postapocalyptic caravan guard
lmao this is your mind on youtube essays
It wasn't.
ok now you're just shitposting
except spec ops isn't an rpg so why do you even bring this up?
I haven't watched a single essay on spec ops you mouthbreathing tard
>okay men, let's evacuate these people!
>sir yes si-
>OH GOD WHAT IS THAT??
>OH NO A SANDSTORM IM GOING INSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNEEE LETS DO WAR CRIMES AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>isn't an rpg
wrong. you're playing the role of walker and commanding a small party of soldiers. nice try
okay but you're still a faggot
>game
>"Your choices matter"
>Your choices don't actually matter
>Even the choices you didn't make don't matter
I played this for the first time 3 weeks ago. I'll give them credit for trying but it all comes off as a load of shit.
it's so fucking funny how Yas Forums got filtered by this game as shows how this board is filled with sub 0 iq brainlets
It should be real easy to explain how we're so stupid, then!
different user, but Spec Ops is a tps with "tactical" elements. A game being considered an rpg because you play the role of someone is total bullshit. Is Duke Nukem an rpg now because I play the role of Duke?
To be fair, you have to have a genius level IQ to appreciate spec ops the line
>""""""role"""""" playing game
>play the role of Duke
gee i dunno, you tell me
Everyone below you is trolling but the devs literally gave an option to not use the phosphorus, and can you guess what happened?
No one used it. So they force you to.
But Spec Ops is garbage and you're garbage for liking it.
Because you're a child with the most shallow understanding and experience possible.
>this is bullshit why am I being forced to do bad things in a game about how war makes good people do bad things?
>Play the role of Nukem Dukem alien asskicker
>Make meaningfull choices like tipping the strippers or not tipping them
>Many hidden secrets andn optional enemies
>Progress through the game by unlocking more weapons and items
Duke Nukem is a linear RPG, yes
hahaha based! wojak so based
meme's are the best i love bein a channer!
Walker was never a good person
Every vidya is unironically an rpg
Needed more sandstorm fights but otherwise pretty solid game.
>play a game where everyone knows this is the gimmick
>get mad about the gimmick
if you want to feel like a hero play call of duty 4.
>dude what if you killed NPCs but they didn't want to die
>Also lets throw some half assed Heart of Darkness references
deep
I've never played this game but is the whole point that it appears to be a generic military shooter but then tricks you into killing civilians, and this is somehow deep? Oblivion had a quest where you drank a potion and then ran around killing goblins, only to find out that they were civilians and the potion tricked you into thinking they were goblins, but I didn't see anyone calling that high art.
spec ops is high /art/, oblivion's potion mission is /high/ art.
fuck off whatcuckture
Where exactly did Walker ''cross the line''?
Refusing to acknowledge what he did with the willy pete
I honestly didn't mind the gimmick by itself, but the way it was executed was just plain dumb. The noncoms are easily identifiable as such; there's no incentive to "play it safe" or to "get carried away". It would've been easy to fix by actually having the enemy soldiers mingling with the civilians - maybe they're trying to use them as human shields, or maybe they're just desperately trying to retreat, or both - but they didn't do that, they just put the civilians in close proximity to the soldiers and required the player to wipe them out to proceed.
I still liked the game, though.
But it wasn't. It was pretentious dogshit with mediocre gameplay.
he more or less stumbles across "the line." he got shot at by the good guys (but he didn't know they were good) who mistook him for more cia assassins. then he uses wp on them because he thinks they're hoarding the surviving emiratis as prisoners which they're not and kills everyone in the process an he goes CUHRAYZEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Binary Domain > Fedora Ops: The Borderline
Punchy effects on hitting and killing enemies and a decent story that you can do anything with - take to heart, make a video essay with your autism, or just take the piss out of it.
>tfw casually reminded of Spec Ops when walking through the WP impact site during MW 2019's first mission
>tfw "oh thanks spec ops for reminding us the power of WP, now watch this war crime *hangs 15 syrians and lets you play through paris 2015 + picadilly circus bombing 2005*
I also had fun with the fact that games could be spiced up more by adding in more violent details like having conversations about home, or gurgling noises when you headshot people. War is hell, get through it by dabbing on that bitch.
Reminder:
10/10 OST
10/10 graphics
Tightest controls of any third person shooter
> GOAT voice acting
> GOAT story pacing
> Fantastic dialogue
> Great, gripping story
> Completely destroyed the modern military shooter genre on its own and forced them to either go into futurespace or become cartoons
> A huge amount of little details and easter eggs to reinforce the surreal story
> b-b-b-but it didn't let me be the hero so it's bad
Spec Ops really is the ultimate plebfilter. People don't want a great game, they just want pandering wish fulfillment fantasy.
Uh hello, BASED department?
this has to be the only game where a character does something and people try to act like they're responsible for it IRL
>wtf bros I didn't know beating vergil would open the gate to hell asshole devs
To deep for ameri-consoomers
no developer today would have the balls to make a game like this today.
its basically a dream before his death and you replay his memories
Its only good for making shitposts about how people dont "get it".
Why does this game in particular still make people so angry and not anything else?
Was it made by telltale?
Imagine a book where you read about a characters death, then on the next page the book calls you an asshole for reading far enough for them to die
Bad enough, but now imagine that book were being praised as a masterpiece
Zulu Squad top aesthetics
The game doesn't criticize the player, you stupid mother fucker. This is more like a book has the character do something bad but for some reason everyone starts seething as if they're personally attacked when the book makes a clear distinction that you are not the protagonist of the story.
God damn I'm so tired of you fucking retards I'm not even gonna post the screenshot of the FUCKING LOADING SCREEN talking shit to you
Eat a dick, and then a bullet
It's literally just "the monster at the end of this book" but the monster is you instead. Except less charming and more sand.
You mean the "do you feel like a hero yet?" thing?
That COULD be Walker's internal "voice".
But you're right, it can also be interpreted as speaking directly to the player.
It doesn't mean the game is "blaming you", just being cheeky. Lots of people play games like these to feel like a hero even while shooting hundreds of people.
