That's not what I would describe as an emotional investment in the setting and characters. It's closer to an appreciation for the mechanics of a game being entertaining enough to stay engaging. Emotions are almost non-existent.

When I play a game with good female customization, I just make a waifu alt to jerk off to nude and then go back to playing on my main that's a guy. I played through mass effect 1 as a dude and always felt it more fulfilling to play as my own gender than as a chick when the point of vidya is self insert power fantasy. I mean you could play it for other reasons sure, like it doesn't really matter what character you play in a competitive game like league of legends or rainbow six siege, since you could just be choosing a cute girl character that has good abilities or ones you like to use, but in singleplayer games or multiplayer games with character creation it's always a cool looking dude for me, simple as.

I like the core premise of the gameplay of breeding in breeding season and BotN but I know that it can most certainly be improved and expanded upon to make an actual fucking video game. Having never once paid into a single Kickstart or Patreon, I have no idea how-- with such mottled track records and a history of straight up abuse of terms-- people can feel even a little comfortable giving either body their money.
